It's not even in the employee's job description to stop theft, that's what security is for. Many, like this one, just have an actual cop there and serve as mini-stations. Target is the same way. Anyway I remember a video that went viral a few years back, this guy had lost his job, had to feed his family, etc, so he tried to walk out of Walmart with some cheap steaks and hamburger in his pockets. The manager stopped him (they were sticking out and very visible) but instead of calling the cops they listened to his story, and they let him go, even buying him some food. Maybe staged, who knows, but ostensibly there is forgiveness in the system for crimes of necessity, as opposed to those of pure greed.
Probably not staged. At Starbucks, we would tell the homeless people that would steal from us- sternly, that if it was really that necessary and they were really that hungry that they had to do that, they could have just asked for the manager and asked nicely. We also make sure to tell them they gotta bring money in the next time, but we understood the struggle. This worked maybe….. 3 times? Most just played the game, got away with it, then came back tomorrow to work the system. 🫠 In 7 years that I was there….. lmfaoooo. In their defense, the store was located in a m3th hotspot, so most people in the area weren’t capable of understanding any of that… 🤦🏻♀️
"Shoplifters try to be discrete." That is not always the case. I remember when I was still in school, there was gym teacher at my high school who actually got caught stealing over $1,200.00 (Or, approximately around 65 VHS tapes at once) worth of VHS tapes. While she managed to not only got all charges dropped but kept her teaching job by simply playing the victim card, none of the students were so forgiven and we all give her a hard time over it.
I was at a Safeway and watched a lady grab a box of pastries, eat one and put a couple more in her purse before putting the box back on the shelf. I told the cashier and she said they are not allowed to stop her or confront her. I left there wondering why I even paid. They told me the same thing at Walgreens.
Most stores employees are not even allowed to stop shoplifters. The employees must wait 30 minutes for police while the common people have to suffer super high prices on the simple small things because people keep stealing them.
I worked in Walmart for about 2 months and a half and we are not allowed to stop customers from stealing. We are forced to call in a manager or a security guard (only if we have one). So that are reasons we don't stop but we are told to politely tell them they have not purchase them.
Apparently you haven't heard the crazy race baiters use the term "black face of white supremacy ", "Uncle Tom", traitor, among others. If you aren't aligned with them ideologically you are a white supremacist, no matter what your race. You see, if your black you can't be racist(it's not scientifically possible)towards white people, but if your black and hold other black people accountable for criminality, bad behavior, poor life choices ...... etc. you are indeed a racist/white supremacist in their world view.
Many shoplifters are strategic and organized, I think it can be very profitable! Employees aren’t going to put their life on the line if a few people with facecoverings carry out thousands of dollars of ‘merchandise’! Still too much of a risk, I’d say.
I woz thinkin' da same. Why pay, when law gives you a pass in some states. In my country, you steal once, if it is less than 200-400$ equivalent, you may get a warning. Go stealing again and even 1 cent of merchandise puts you in jail.
Some retail jobs tell you not to even try and stop people who go out the door, just contact asset protection team and let them know to file an incident report if needed
There can be lawsuits if an employee tries to restrain or stop a thief. Even if the employee is successful they are often fired and possibly sued. Just get video evidence, good info, and call the cops.
I work at Walmart. We are not allowed to step in to stop shoplifting cause we don't know if the shoplifter has a weapon. Our training videos tell us our safety is above all else (mostly so walmart doesn't have to pay anything legal or medical).
When working at Lowe's we were told to offer assistance to the person, so they didn't feel open to steal but, we were told to not directly confront them, that was for loss prevention to do.
In Australia, our large Retail Stores & Malls have face recognition software. Security isn't encouraged to confront shoplifters; who may put them at risk. The Police trace the footage & they get booked for shoplifting then.
The thing about people stealing food and such is that if they would just ask for help, a lot of people are willing to buy some food who needs it; they just don't want to hand out cash.
2:48 It isn't just people trying to make it seem like it's everywhere. It is everywhere. Last month I saw some kids just run out of my Walmart with stolen stuff, and nobody did anything. There are also several other times I have witnessed. It also is a new phenomenon, so it's getting worse.
in alot of cases, employees are not allowed to stop people from stealing, in some states/cities even the security guards are not allowed to physically stop people, they are just there to look tough and tell people no.
just gotta say, people are not discrete at all about stealing. Working in retail lets you see that, just last night some guy was about to walk out the store with his cart FULL top to bottom with about $600 of stuff and would have if the cart didn't lock up on him and instead just casually walked away after his failed stealing attempt. There really is no risk to people stealing cuz even if any of us minimum wage workers did care enough to do something we arent even allowed to get involved physically
From what I know, it’s 1000 or over for felony charges for theft. And most likely the reason why employees, or/and even asset protection, can’t do much is bc they follow the policies of the company they were hired for which probably prevents them from engaging directly with the suspect(s). They basically are there for evidence and helping build cases to hit people with felony charges
Felony theft varies by state. Some state it can be $1000 or more, other states as low as $200. Some states is it based on the total of goods, other states it is based upon individual values.

0:48 actually, most stores don’t allow employees to stop them as it’s a liability. They’re told to let it go and let the security guards/authorities deal with it.
So if the authorities aren't there, you're supposed to let the stuff get stolen, and get punished for doing something about it? Gotta say, never felt happier about living in the UK
Why? Surely if someone is stealing the food from the shop, ithardly matters how you deal with it. This is stuff that doesn't grow on trees, and people are just allowed to steal it and the repercussions are from stopping them from stealing it? Seems very backwards to me
as far as i know it comes down to avoid potential lawsuits or public backlash @@ethanloch3802. essentially stopping them now is not a fear of law enforcement rather a fear of public backlash if said employee wrongly accused a person of theft and made a scene. even if the employee was 100% in the right you'd have dipshits getting pissy and complaining that the thief was stopped or defending the thieves. leading to the same outcome. look up the gibson bakery incident. the gist was that some university students stole from the bakery. the owner's son stopped them. as a result the the college faculty including the dean herself if memory serves as well a number of students ran under the false pretense of racist business blacklisting the bakery without doing research into the matter. that is the evident danger especially for small businesses like the gibson bakery. so most companies bite their tongue to avoid similar danger even if they in legally in the right. the public execution is what stops them. because all it took was saying racist bakery and the thieves nearly got away with a crime and shut down a generational family owned business. luckily the uni was sued for promoting the protest despite the dean saying the university did not encourage protest(she and other staff did in fact encourage the protest pretty sure its on video as well). to which the bakery was awarded 44 million to which ohio state law caps the damage to 25 mill for punitive damage. so the family owned bakery survived because they managed to weather the shit storm. most other small businesses aren't going to be as lucky and they know it. as far larger businesses they'd rather deal with a loss of income from the theft rather than the greater loss something like the gibson bakery incident would do to them scaled up to their business. its inaction because of the fear of response
It's not that employees aren't paid enough to stop them...when someone shoplifts there's a primal urge that comes over people regardless of wage 😂 It's actually that every single company will fire you for stepping in. Sometimes just following them to the car and getting their plate number is enough to get you canned. The priorities are all out of whack.

Stealing is stealing. There is no complication. If you need food, you ask. Ask your local church, your local food pantry, your friends and family, even the government. The reason people steal food is thrill, laziness, or pride
"i only stole 350" a quote that wouldnt exist if the law preventing robbery for under 1000 bucks being punished didnt enable people to become so casual in being shoplifters.
The reason it’s so easy for shoplifters is cause most stores have a policy that if an employee interacts with shoplifters and tried to stop them, they will be FIRED. It’s cause the business doesn’t want to get in trouble if you get hurt. Worked at Starbucks- if we had our tips stolen right in front of us, we pretty much had to just let them. And there was no compensation, cause we had no idea how much was in the jar- so we would just let them have a portion of our paychecks pretty much cause everyone who works for tips knows: tips matter. If you rob a store, take something that doesn’t go directly into the minimum wage employees pocket, please? I truly don’t care if you swipe a thing or two from a Walmart- they can afford it. I’m not saying you should, cause you shouldn’t- but if you’re going to, go after big box stores, don’t go after someone’s tips. And if you get caught… don’t be this chick. Just admit defeat lol.
Lemme steal a series x and switch oled! Im getting caught and just say sorry. Try that in western europe and and you would see more then a little fine!
They’re right though that the cops aren’t going to intervene immediately on a petty theft like stealing a chocolate bar or something and will respond to thefts around the 500-1k mark. Plus most stores have to restrict their staff and security from physically intervene so they don’t risk damages to the store and employees, most thieves know that and added with the precious minutes they got exploit that window to make a break for it before the cops arrive or if they’re lucky there isn’t one coming around the corner
I always live my life by the rule of "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime." Cuz you can go to prison for the rest of your life if you fuck up hard enough and you only ever get one life. Do you really wanna spend all of it behind bars with other criminals? I sure as hell don't want to if I can avoid it.
In the past, retailers would often just choose to regain ownership of the merchandise and ban the shoplifter with no police involvement; however, in the age of massive retail theft that we live in, most retailers have opted to charge these people because it's become a huge detriment to them (they are literally closing entire stores because of it). Also, employees are not allowed to interfere with shoplifters (unless it's loss prevention and even they are limited in their capacity) as it's a *huge* liability issue and if a regular employee does decide to involve themselves then they will almost certainly get fired.
Totally depends on the food. If you steal a ramen noodle or a loaf of bread ny ass ain't saying nothing that's someone trying to survive in a hard time. Just cause your parents take care of you every time something bad happens doesn't mean everyone has that luxury too
You'd certainly think that shoplifters were smart and only take a few items, but when i used to work in retail at a grocery store people would walk out with entire carts full of stuff. Fact is its a safety risk to go after them so we weren't allowed too
In almost all retail stores, no employee is allowed to chase, talk or take a pic of a shoplifter. The employee will be fired on the spot. It’s most store policy because it’s for their safety.
It's not for their safety. If stores cared about employee safety, they would crack down on the crime wave that is making them unsafe in the first place. The issue is the mentality in blue states & cities that criminals are victims, and anyone who gets in their way are the real bad guys. Stores in these places are forced to adopt these policies to appease the local politicians.

You can tell be how she’s acting that she always get her way and it’s been a really long time since someone told her “no”.

Embarrassed? Have you not seen these black females in public built like a defensive end, wearing long fake hair weave, long fake eyelashes
(cumbrellas), long fake finger nails, calling themselves "queens", and loud talking in public for attention. This entitlement was GIVEN to them by whites so that black females can do their bidding. I guarantee you that her charges will be dropped.
Pretty sure screaming I'm going to F your woman as retaliation to being taken down could be considered something chargeable.
Why don't you all take a look at RASHEEYDA MARIE HERNDON criminal history and see how the Palm Beach, Fl. judicial system have been letting her walk back out into society with multiple low bonds and throwing out cases.
Criminal lady: *Purposely shoulder checks employee.*
Also Criminal lady: Don't bump into me!
Genius logic right there.
"It was just a prank bro"
In 7 years that I was there…..
I wonder how shoplifters justify stealing. How could you explain why it's all right to do that?
She was probably sweeping the floor with those lashes when she got taken down 🧹
I was at a Safeway and watched a lady grab a box of pastries, eat one and put a couple more in her purse before putting the box back on the shelf. I told the cashier and she said they are not allowed to stop her or confront her. I left there wondering why I even paid. They told me the same thing at Walgreens.
This disgusting behavior was taught in early childhood.
I’ll be damned if I’m going to jail for a Walmart purse.
8:06 - I know it would only be a matter of time. The officer is also black, so the whole "you racist" is out of the window.
And then the only other thing she could think of was “I’m a woman”😭
$350 is a lot at Walmart 😂
Her attitude is ridiculous for someone who just got caught stealing stuff.
I've witnessed this attitude in adults much more than I should have.
This somehow feels like another consequence of this extreme "nobody is accountable for their own actions"-mentallity in the US.
A lot of times they open a case and track what is stolen up until felony level theft before moving to prosecute
Yup
In a lot of cases, us employees can be FIRED for trying to stop shoplifting
My favorite part was when just she casually said “oh no, I don’t go to jail” 😂😂
Many shoplifters are strategic and organized, I think it can be very profitable! Employees aren’t going to put their life on the line if a few people with facecoverings carry out thousands of dollars of ‘merchandise’! Still too much of a risk, I’d say.
Thanks for advice!
You know what they say, If you can't do the time, DON'T do the crime.
These videos make me not want to go anywhere near a Walmart.
where i live only few places we got in 30 somthing miles
The thing about people stealing food and such is that if they would just ask for help, a lot of people are willing to buy some food who needs it; they just don't want to hand out cash.
Food stamps are a thing, that’s why you never hear about people stealing food in the US
2:48 It isn't just people trying to make it seem like it's everywhere. It is everywhere. Last month I saw some kids just run out of my Walmart with stolen stuff, and nobody did anything. There are also several other times I have witnessed. It also is a new phenomenon, so it's getting worse.
Here in New England, you shoplift anything, you get charged.
“I will comply” continues to not comply
in alot of cases, employees are not allowed to stop people from stealing, in some states/cities even the security guards are not allowed to physically stop people, they are just there to look tough and tell people no.
$500 or more is a felony. Sounds like she was trying to steal within range.
just gotta say, people are not discrete at all about stealing.
This should make you ineligible for food stamps.
Usually they build up a case then prosecute you. They usually hit the store multiple times

My company may not encourage screwing with shoplifters, but it is a personal hobby of mine.
some stores actually forbid their employees/security from stopping shoplifters so in some cases you are risking your job doing so
It's highly backwards 😂 wtf?
$3 underwear and she don’t go to that Walmart because there on that bullsh*t? Maybe if you weren’t a scumbag thief they wouldn’t be on “bullshit”
I knew a girl who said her mom took her clothes shopping by filling up a basket and running out the store.
They never shut up, never comply, theft has become a way of life to these people, and get upset and scream victim when caught.
“Theft HAS become a way of life”. No, it’s ALWAYS been their way of life.
Why is she acting like she is related to Walmart 😂😂😂😂😂 she thinks she owns the world.....
The fact that she's only going to be taken to the station for a few hours unless it's the weekend or they don't trust her and they want to take a right court but usually you just get let out with a promise to appear Unless it's the weekend then you go in front of a judge and you'll most likely set a date for the court date but all that's going to happen if she has never been arrested before as she claims probation at the most she may not even get that
That lady needs to grow up and stop running around stealing like a teenager. I hate it when people get caught doing illegal shit and they play dumb like they don't understand whats going on. They are getting arrested and they yell For What? For What? When they know why. Grow up lady grow up. Acting like a damn kid.
I'm impressed that she chose to leave home looking like that 0:07
0:30 nah bro, it's a tactic called hiding in Plain sight
2:04 I'm so glad the guy is black, it's gonna cut some of the bullshit, she can't easily claim racism now
you're getting cuffed for resisting, then resisting more after she was handed over to the cops. All she had to do with keep her mouth shut and do what she was told to do without question and she would of walked away with just a slap on the wrist.
As someone who used to have a horrible shoplifting problem, yeah, we only usually take one or two things to be discreet
she did pay for some stuff. I hope Walmart does not refund the stuff that she already paid for she need to be taught a lesson.
Stealing is stealing. There is no complication. If you need food, you ask. Ask your local church, your local food pantry, your friends and family, even the government. The reason people steal food is thrill, laziness, or pride
there nothing like that were i live

Companies tell you not to stop them as an employee as well
It’s a bit crazy, but in my state it’s only a big crime if you steal above $1000. Other than that it’s not really enforced.
Yep. And that leads to shoplifting going rampant since its basically not punished anymore.
Lemme steal a series x and switch oled! Im getting caught and just say sorry. Try that in western europe and and you would see more then a little fine!
Usual Suspects doing what they usually do...fake lashes, hair and nails trying to "keep it real"
I’ve been waiting for someone to cover this, thank you lol 😂🙌🏾
Employees are usually told not to interfere with shoplifters, paying for an employee injury costs a lot more than most thefts
Thanks god the guy who catch her was black, or she would have been screaming racism like there was no tomorrow
she obviously has done this many times before.
She had the nerve to steal AND pay for everything else with a food stamp card?
I’ve worked at the mall and people steal thousands of dollars in our face and they tell us all the time we can’t do anything
Numba 5 went down hard

In the past, retailers would often just choose to regain ownership of the merchandise and ban the shoplifter with no police involvement; however, in the age of massive retail theft that we live in, most retailers have opted to charge these people because it's become a huge detriment to them (they are literally closing entire stores because of it). Also, employees are not allowed to interfere with shoplifters (unless it's loss prevention and even they are limited in their capacity) as it's a *huge* liability issue and if a regular employee does decide to involve themselves then they will almost certainly get fired.
Stealing at all should get you arrested, even if you only steal food.
Only? Stealing is stealing, what a dumdum lady.
Totally depends on the food. If you steal a ramen noodle or a loaf of bread ny ass ain't saying nothing that's someone trying to survive in a hard time. Just cause your parents take care of you every time something bad happens doesn't mean everyone has that luxury too
She asks for a refund😅😅😅😂
They can't use the word rasssism ahahaha
Right 😂😂😂
You'd certainly think that shoplifters were smart and only take a few items, but when i used to work in retail at a grocery store people would walk out with entire carts full of stuff.
Fact is its a safety risk to go after them so we weren't allowed too
Over 100$ is a felony where I am at
Its possible she had stolen from there before. Usually walmart waits to pursue until youve hit over a certain amount
"Just a prank bro"☠️☠️
Resisting arrest is a secondary charge, you have to commit a crime first before you can be charged with resisting arrest
