    Thanks for the video. As I was watching i wondered "does he love his vfr800, the way I love mine?" I'm planning a trip from California to New York. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    Brilliant, I'm such a noob and just got a 2008 VFR, so this is perfect timing to stumble upon this! Didn't realise how spectacularly simple it would be! Thanks Richie. 👍

    Beside the factory settings of 1200 +/- 100 rpm, I found that raise to 1800 rpm dramatically reduces the big on/off problem that plagues this fantastic bike. It has side effects though.

    Richie, what the role of the button close to rpm gauge? I have one too but i dont know what is doing :) after i press it, nothing is happening.

    • @rideswithrichie
      @rideswithrichie  3 года назад +2

      That is the HISS BUTTON, According to the manual this button is used to cancel the led light flashing on the dash when the motorcycle is turned off. Hope this helps.

    Very useful video Richie. Noticed that you have the throttle assist (Crampbuster?). How do you like it? I've been thinking about one for my 2007 VFR

    • @rideswithrichie

      I guess this is a must on the motorcycles. It’s cheap as chips and it’s super handy on those long journeys.

    How does altering the idle rpm change fuel consumption ???

    • @rideswithrichie
      @rideswithrichie  3 года назад +2

      If the motorcycle idles at higher RPM the fuel consumption is higher since the engine works harder… I hope this makes sense…

    • @keithriley3159
      @keithriley3159 3 года назад

      @@rideswithrichie I can't tell if you're being serious or not ! Just in case you don't realise, that twisty thing in your right hand is what gives the engine more fuel and makes the engine work harder, nothing else.

      @@keithriley3159 Don't know about him but you must be joking or you have a serious case of poor IQ. More RPM = more gas, not significantly more in this case but still more, especially if he rides a lot in bumper to bumper traffic.

    • @keithriley3159
      @keithriley3159 3 года назад +1

      @@mickeystanic4750 well I’m an engineer so poor IQ could be possible! Tell me, what’s the fuel consumption rate at 1300rpm and then adjusted down to 1050rpm ??? Feck all, that’s what. You’d have to be sat in stand still traffic for the whole life of the bike to see a difference

    • @mickeystanic4750

      @@keithriley3159 Sorry, did not mean to offend you- my bad. However, as an engineer you should know that every single rev uses energy, never mind 300 revs. Every little bit counts when comes to.saving energy, pollution and noise. There is a reason why all cars and bike idle on the lowest possible number of revs that is also ensuring sufficient oil pressure, cooling, etc. Cheers!

    Ok but how do I get my bike to start so easy when it's cold mine idles very low when cold start and then as it gets to operating temp it levels out around 1200

    • @rideswithrichie
      @rideswithrichie  2 года назад

      At what RPM does it idle when you start it. Mine revs at 1600 to 1800 and then once it’s warmed up it sits at 1300

    • @hixson612
      @hixson612 2 года назад

      @@rideswithrichie when it starts cold it's only about 600 to 800 rpms and very choppy like it's struggling and if you give it throttle it will die. But if you leave it alone for a couple minutes it will idle up to 1200 and be pretty smooth. Does bounce around a little

  • @DemonDalby
    @DemonDalby Месяц назад +1

    To grasp the importance of the RPM idle setting to fuel consumption .. you need to factor in that when you back off the throttle you are consuming far too much fuel at anything over 12,000 RPM ... as the engine is being supplied/ metered/ injected with what you have set the idle RPM at AS YOU SLOW DOWN )on the over run) If that is 14 -15K RPM that is a LARGE amout of wasted fuel in town riding!
