    No its not the cheesy way out. I hear if you hunt or 3d shoot, a glove would be better. If your target shooting a tab. This is a great video. I have been shooting a compound bow for 15+ years. I have gotten interested in a trad bow and been researching traditional archery for over 2 months now. I have not bought anything yet, but your videos are a valuable part of my research. Thanks much!

    I've just gone over to a glove after almost a year with various tabs. I am still new to Archery so experimenting is the forte for me at the mo. I found almost instantly that my draw and finger placement on the string was much more comfortable with the glove and I can now shoot from my finger tips instead of the joints(Dangerous for injury and a bad habit.) I won't mention the make of the glove as I am not here to spam your good utube channel feed, But I can say it is made from cow hide and the tips are aged Buffalo hide. I can feel the string but not to the point of hurting etc, I too had problems with my ring finger, But the glove has ended that problem for me. It's Gloves and Barebow from here on in for me.
    Good Vid @Trad Archery 101, Very explanatory.

    If you want a tab and you have a heavy bow, you most likely will need a cordovan tab. You can also add an extra layer of a softer leather if you still feel it. Personally, as a stringwalking barebower, I use the stitches on the tab to indicate where I will draw from below the nock to get point on. Essentially, it's up to you and go with what you prefer

    Really nice break down of the merits and flaws of each, thanks. One thing you might want to add to this is I find a glove keeps my hand too warm in the summer months and I am constantly taking it off to stop my hand sweating.
    The other side of this is using a tab in winter months and I wear a pair of fleece fingerless gloves that are great so long as the tab is secure or it can flick off your finger as happened on Sunday.

    I shoot with my right hand, AAE tab and then pull arrows with my left hand. The closest I thought I had come to losing my tab was at a tournament and during a break instead of putting it in my quiver pocket I slipped it into another 'possibles' pouch on my belt. When shooting started again I ended up shooting a couple of ends with a glove I keep handy. Now I also keep a spare tab. Great video, the topic is one of those fun Chevy vs. Ford discussions.

    I used a glove the first 4yr when I started then switched to a tab for 30+yr and never looked back. For me when the glove would get broken in it was time for a new one as the old one had groves in it. With a good tab I never have groves in it and can grab a new tab shoot a couple arrows and I'm ready to go no break in. Don't be stingy get a good tab and have fun. Thank you.

    I changed from glove to tab because of an injured nail. I can't get it in the glove without hurting like hell. First i didn't like it, but then it was a game changer. My grouping got better and better with much more constant release. As you mentioned skin to skin contact leads to better anchor. I highly recommend the Fivics Polite 3 Finger Tab. Amazing quality! On mine the leather is still in great shape after three years of intense use. Against misplace my tab i use a release bag on my quiver belt.

    Awesome, thank you sir for an educational video. I will definitely start with Tab AND Gloves, so I can practice archery with multiple arrows... With my old Canadian bow of 55 pounds (haven't got my new one yet), I can't handle many arrows without hurting my fingers :(

  • @keithbaker3405
    @keithbaker3405 5 лет назад +1

    Over a period of time my fingers have become increasingly tougher (impart due to me applying iso alcohol 2-3 times a week to my finger tips) and I have found that I can use lighter gloves now even with my 55# bows. As an exclusive field archer I needed some weather protection for winter and so I bought a pair of German Luftwaffe leather gloves...for £5 they are a bargain, I just apply some talc to the fingertips of them now and again to improve release.

    Thanks for the education. I learned a lot. One more consideration: I sometimes shoot a horsebow and use the Slavic draw. Can't do it well with a tab, but easy with a glove.

    I tried tabs but keep going back to the 3 finger glove. Got a European style one that has webbing between the fingers and I found it fits good and doesn't move on my fingers especially the pointer finger. Great video Greg!

    One thing I noticed is with my release and my grip I prefer a tab like the Black Widow Tab style with each finger placement that can move independently of the other. I noticed I get a much cleaner release with a glove over a standard piece tab but with a calf hair Black Widow tab cut into the 3 independent pieces my release is exactly what I want it at. So I just cut my tabs now into 3 finger sections and Im good to go.

    Sorry for my last writing , I was in the woods stump shooting and had no reading glasses,young man,,now of course we never can become a machine and we could never Robin Hood an arrow every shot, but what we can do is have a belief system that puts us in another category,,Its kind of like Micheal Borden when he was at his best,,he had a believe system,,he though I'm unstoppable,,thay can't touch me,I'm the best in the world,,this system must be kept inside so we don't look or feel arrogant,,but it puts us in a state of mind of auto pilot and a believe system that drives us home perfectly,,its a zone ,,its confidence and yes think of the machine remember what it does and try to become it,,,and of course we will never be,,but if it means a better shot almost every time,,AMEN to us,,have a good one

  • @85waspnest

    What's your opinion of the hard silicone finger protectors that fit onto the string itself, therefore eliminating the need for a tab or glove? They act as a roller bearing which should give a smooth release and reduce serving wear. I'm waiting for the opportunity to test mine.

    Always informative videos, thanks:) I am shooting mostly gloves. I know that tabs probably would be better but always come back to gloves. I noticed that when you switched from glove to tab your arrow impact was same height. When I switch from glove to tab, my impact would be 6 inch higher in 20 yards. I see several experience the same, why would that be?

    I use a saker 1, but found that i’ve had to add an extra piece of backing leather giving 3 layers to stop my fingers stinging after shooting. The extra piece seems to have no consequences.

    I have not seen much people use the string walking in traditional bow but Barebow instead. Could you tell me why?

    • @TradArchery101
      @TradArchery101  Год назад

      Great question. Two main reasons. For whatever reason many think it is not Traditional”. The other is somewhat true. Many believe it puts an undue stress on the bow. This can be true for one piece bows with a large crawl. But most crawls are not that big. Now a takedown bow, even those made of wood have no issues with it.

  • @caseysmith544
    @caseysmith544 3 года назад

    Left eye and so had to go with gloves due to how tabs are more often then not right eye tabs, But I use in the first picture the most open Glove and my new one has an adjustable hand size on the smallest size due to how small a kids large, women's small, Adult small and most men's small are too big so an X-small is what I need. I have heard of people using finger protectors, that look like glove tip ends but are separate be them elastic or not. About 75% who use these are shooting traditional bows be it an English Longbow or old no shelf European bow or Asiatic. I would like to use tab in the loop over finger style so that when I slack off on holding the tab they are open dangling down and I can grab other things rather then need to take time to get the fingers off. My glove has a round smooth patch on the glove unlike the rest as faux suede so I can put finger in the right spot each time.

  • @jimpeterson3806

    The main reason I shoot a tab is because of the spacer. I shoot a compound Mediterranean style and it helps with finger pinch from that sharper string angle.

    Nice pluck....but other than that, nice shooting. I tried a tab a couple of times but I don't like the way they feeling is my face. I am still old school split finger, index finger in the corner of my mouth. Point on about 50 yards. And yes I'm still a instinctive shooter, just staring at my target until it looks right and it's gone. I shoot a thinner glove

      Nothing really, it can however affect the release. It may not release at the same time as a one piece and it can also rub the string and wear it out.

    I looked at a ton of information before I decided. It boiled down to this. I hate gloves. Hate the way they feel on my hands. Watching you write with that glove on makes my brain want to freak out. I would have to take it off a lot. The tab never really gets in my way, not that I ever write on a scorecard for anything.
    Point of this story is don't overthink it. If you hate wearing gloves to do other activities, but a tab for shooting bow lol.

    And I thought about it a little more,,buy you also saying how come when I say I'm going to hit I still miss,,again you programed the subconscious mid again to miss,,,,by stepping up to the plate and demanding that you hit with no failure will get you to the dot better,,,we have to turn our selves into the mechanical machine ,the hooter shooter machine,,think of that machine,it shoots a perfect shot every time,,,and why you ask,,it shoots perfect form each shot,,absolutely nothing moves,its mind only knows the perfect shot,,so that's what we got to try to become with all are ability and conferences every single shot,,so if you can't keep your form today like the hooter shooter,,starve yourself for a couple days and think nothing but becoming that machine,,then shoot,,what still didn't,,starve your self more,,,and this is also why Olympic shooters shoot such light bows,,so thay can become that hooter shooter,,hope this helps you my neighbor

    • @TradArchery101
      @TradArchery101  5 лет назад

      I appreciate your analogy with a machine, but it is flawed. A machine is just that a machine, it cannot think, it cannot feel. It can no more be like us than us like it. I understand the thought of perfect repeat ability, I do. But we are never going to get to that level. We have to accept that fact. When you do, you will free yourself of those confines and you will accept your self for what you are. It is then that you will reach a higher level of performance.
      Even Olympic Archers, the "Gold Standard" of a systematized shot cycle, a shot cycle designed for maximum repeat ability and even with that, miss the "X" more often than they hit it.
