Anna Diop as Starfire is amazing. She is so perfect. I couldn't see anyone else playing it. I want to see more of her and the color of someone's skin not mattering.
How could people complain about that beautiful, talented, classy actress playing Starfire? I couldn't imagine someone better. And I am a titans fan for over 45 years. I think she is amazing, talented, and class, class, class all the way!
I've been a fan of the original Teen Titans for years. The Starfire on that series is adorable. But so is the Starfire on the HBO Titans series. She is kind, and wise and loving. She's also fierce and strong. Why it would matter to anyone what her race is, I could not tell you. Anna plays the character very well. That's what entertainment is, good writing and good acting. How can people get so lost from that?
Some people just like comic book accuracy. With race, it's not really racist unless you put one above/below another. So the problem many have with Starfire being black, if viewed from a logical and unbiased perspective, is the equivalent of them being angry if beast boy were beast girl, or Robin was freakishly tall. They just want it to be like the comics, or the cartoon, or w/e....it's all just opinion. I'm sure there are a few who are just racist, or somehow don't like black girls...or w/e else. That's okay too. They can be w/e they want, that's what freedom is all about. It makes them assholes and shitty people in my opinion...but they are free to do so lol. I didn't like this inaccuracy either at first, but she grew on me. I would like to think they cast her for skill, rather than "filling a race gap", or racial diversity or w/e it's called, and she's doing a really good job IMO so this seems like the case.

I won't lie, I'm a stickler when it comes to live action shows following the source material, but we also have to remember a little something called a budget. Anna and her cast mates has proved that they are capable of bringing the Titans to life 👊
I'm disappointed. Hawk and Raven were 2 of my favorites and they killed 1 off and had the other one sit out most of the season. The actor that plays Hawk got huge for the role too, looked like an actual super hero from the comics, then they just blew him up. Funny part is I didn't like Hawk n Dove much at first but they grew on me. This show has some really amazing stuff about it, and some really flawed stuff. I feel like the flawed stuff is so obvious...like they could have made this such a great show by changing a few things around. No point to this just rambling I guess.

Look at how asian films are filmed they usually let the actors breathe by giving them space between them and the cam there's no shaky cam, shooting in the dark or random quick cuts that make the fight scenes hard to follow. Half of the time you don't know whose fighting who or whose winning. I miss the 80s and 90s when there were more competent film makers who knew how to shoot an action scene it's time to go back to the drawing board or call it quits. It's annoying. For the last time, pan the cam out, stop shaking it, have good lighting, let the action flow naturally. You're going to lose fans and viewers if you continue down this road I can guarantee it...

This isn't bad. This is what celebrities' expect and it's good for their own marketing. It isn't shameful reporting, just things that have been gathered through the celebrity's own interviews or public outings with their significate others...which they knew would be filmed and discussed. I'm sure the guy's a cool guy in person but I would of preferred someone like Ian Somerhalder for Dick Grayson and Ryan Potter's talents as a martial artist was wasted casting him as BB/Garfield. He's a good actor but he's also a great martial artist they should of allowed him to be Tim Drake. Gar/BB is too simplistic of a character I feel that Ryan could nail a more complex character who thinks and does detective work like Tim. I think he deserves a role like that. I feel like being Garfield really waters him down and restricts him from being unhinged and challenge himself proving his skills/talents to their fullest being someone like Tim.

The only actors that I really like as far as acting in this show that stand out to me personally are Curran and Ryan. The others kind of fade into the background for me. Not because of their race just the acting and lack of passion or charisma that bleeds off the screen with other more capable actors. Take Justin Hartley vs Stephan Amell. Stephan's a nice guy in person but they wrote him to be too much like Bruce Wayne. Justine played Green Arrow/Oliver comic accurate giving him more flexibility. This is why despite his age Ian Somerholder lives and breathes for the role of Dick Garyson look at him in TVD and Smallville and his real life persona isn't much different he has charisma and is funny. He could play an older Dick if he had to and pull it off really well.

It’s so wrong to paint everyone who wasn’t happy with Starfire being played by someone who didn’t look like the character as racist. The vast majority of people just wanted comic accuracy and it’s disgusting to slander those people as racist for it. I remember when the first stills were released from the first season and how people were talking about it. The complaints were 1) the costumes look like shit, 2) Beast Boy is not green, 3) Starfire is not orange. I absolutely agreed with all of it. I got over my chagrin pretty quickly because Anna and Ryan do such a good job as Kori and Gar and the outfits looked much better in season 2. What really irks me is that now in the 3rd season, Starfire doesn’t even have pink hair anymore, she’s unrecognizable as Starfire outside of the suit or when she’s actively using her powers. It’s really irritating for people who love those characters to see them totally physically changed.

However, the acting and casting choices is only 1 of many problems this show has. I can't stand the shaky cam and close up shots as well as quick cuts. Take a page from John Wick in action scenes and stop shooting them in the dark with lends flairs it's annoying as fuck! Look at Nightwing the series by Ismahawk compare the action scenes to that fan series to a professionally done modern show like Titans. You can see despite the budget and the effects Ismahawk knows how to film action scenes. Shaky cam takes people out of the experience and makes you want to skip over it and hope for it to be over yet those are the scenes you want to pop out since it's a show based around characters who are action oriented. Think about it. You're taking an important aspect and ruining it for some fancy bullshit that doesn't work or even look right. Stop shaking the cam for a "realism" effect let the actors act and the choreograph flow naturally. Give them some breathing room. Or hire someone who knows how to film action scenes properly. I'm getting so tired of these films and series that do this it's so frustrating and takes out all the enjoyment out of it and feels more like a chore to sit through because you can't see half the shit on screen.

Anna Drop didn't receive racial comments. The production received criticism on the casting, from comic book fans. She's a super model type beauty (Kate Upton would have been the proper look) with golden orange skin. The same criticisms were made with the casting of The Ancient One, in Doctor Strange. You would get the same reactions to casting Jesus Christ with an albino woman. Stop pushing the racial angle, when there isn't one.

I'm sure the guy's a cool guy in person but I would of preferred someone like Ian Somerhalder for Dick Grayson and Ryan Potter's talents as a martial artist was wasted casting him as BB/Garfield. He's a good actor but he's also a great martial artist they should of allowed him to be Tim Drake.
Gar/BB is too simplistic of a character I feel that Ryan could nail a more complex character who thinks and does detective work like Tim. I think he deserves a role like that. I feel like being Garfield really waters him down and restricts him from being unhinged and challenge himself proving his skills/talents to their fullest being someone like Tim.

The only actors that I really like as far as acting in this show that stand out to me personally are Curran and Ryan. The others kind of fade into the background for me. Not because of their race just the acting and lack of passion or charisma that bleeds off the screen with other more capable actors. Take Justin Hartley vs Stephan Amell. Stephan's a nice guy in person but they wrote him to be too much like Bruce Wayne. Justine played Green Arrow/Oliver comic accurate giving him more flexibility.
This is why despite his age Ian Somerholder lives and breathes for the role of Dick Garyson look at him in TVD and Smallville and his real life persona isn't much different he has charisma and is funny. He could play an older Dick if he had to and pull it off really well.

It’s so wrong to paint everyone who wasn’t happy with Starfire being played by someone who didn’t look like the character as racist. The vast majority of people just wanted comic accuracy and it’s disgusting to slander those people as racist for it. I remember when the first stills were released from the first season and how people were talking about it. The complaints were 1) the costumes look like shit, 2) Beast Boy is not green, 3) Starfire is not orange. I absolutely agreed with all of it. I got over my chagrin pretty quickly because Anna and Ryan do such a good job as Kori and Gar and the outfits looked much better in season 2. What really irks me is that now in the 3rd season, Starfire doesn’t even have pink hair anymore, she’s unrecognizable as Starfire outside of the suit or when she’s actively using her powers. It’s really irritating for people who love those characters to see them totally physically changed.
Just because you only had a problem with her not being a 7ft orange alien doesn't mean the vast majority felt the same way.

It makes sense that she would get the most vitriolic comments on her personal pages because of course the ugliest, angriest people were gonna attack her directly and LOUDLY. As far as general complaints or discourse, I was on tumblr paying attention to it back in 2018 and I personally never saw anyone saying they didn’t like her being cast because she was black (not to say it absolutely didn’t happen because I’m sure it did). I remember seeing several examples of black women who painted/tinted their skin orange brought up to show “it’s not because she’s black, they could have done this and we would have been happy with it”. Even NOW, if I say “I like the actress, she does a good job, but I really wanted Starfire to accurate ie: she’s tall, orangey skin tone, pink hair” on tumblr, I’m called a racist. That’s what I mean. People are being maligned as racist for holding the opinion that a live-action character should look like it’s source material, not because they’ve actually said anything against the actor. They’re being lumped in with actual racists which really just takes away from the ugliness that real racism is. And again, I don’t doubt at all that she got vile comments, what I doubt is that those people were anything other than a minority of the total complaints.
Also, I wasn’t expecting an exact replica of comic book Starfire, I was expecting effort. Marvel painted Zoe Saldana green for Gamorra, I figured DC could paint someone orangey for Starfire. I mean orange is closer to normal human skin colors than green.

As for the Gamorra thing, that was just kind of a throwaway thought, I don’t care how they do it. The point of the show is to bring the characters of the comic book Titans to life. If you can’t make your characters look similar (I’m not asking for perfection by any means) to their source work counterparts, something isn’t right. Honestly, I’d be less disappointed if they hadn’t totally phased out her pink hair because that’s also a huge part of Starfire’s physical attributes. Starfire is one of the most beloved Titans/Teen Titans characters, people have been waiting for a long time to see her and the other characters on screen in live-action and it’s disappointing when they don’t live up.

However, the acting and casting choices is only 1 of many problems this show has. I can't stand the shaky cam and close up shots as well as quick cuts. Take a page from John Wick in action scenes and stop shooting them in the dark with lends flairs it's annoying as fuck! Look at Nightwing the series by Ismahawk compare the action scenes to that fan series to a professionally done modern show like Titans. You can see despite the budget and the effects Ismahawk knows how to film action scenes.
Shaky cam takes people out of the experience and makes you want to skip over it and hope for it to be over yet those are the scenes you want to pop out since it's a show based around characters who are action oriented. Think about it. You're taking an important aspect and ruining it for some fancy bullshit that doesn't work or even look right. Stop shaking the cam for a "realism" effect let the actors act and the choreograph flow naturally. Give them some breathing room. Or hire someone who knows how to film action scenes properly. I'm getting so tired of these films and series that do this it's so frustrating and takes out all the enjoyment out of it and feels more like a chore to sit through because you can't see half the shit on screen.

It's not racist when you want things done the right way. If they want to take advantage of a comic book they have to respect the original material, they can't just swap whatever they like. They could create new characters and stories, but that's the real question, can they?
That being said, lashing out on an actor like that for doing her job, and a pretty well job I might say, is both stupid and petty. You can call out on the producers or writers who made the choice, but the only thing you achieve by attacking actors, is to play the woke game and becoming the villain they preach you are.

Anna Drop didn't receive racial comments. The production received criticism on the casting, from comic book fans. She's a super model type beauty (Kate Upton would have been the proper look) with golden orange skin. The same criticisms were made with the casting of The Ancient One, in Doctor Strange. You would get the same reactions to casting Jesus Christ with an albino woman. Stop pushing the racial angle, when there isn't one.
I get what you are saying. I don't think it's racist to say that actor doesn't look the part. But still, Anna did the character justice. It was different for me at first, but I couldn't help but like Starfire. She's just so badass.
