The story Stephen didn’t want Howard to tell was talked about on Stern’s show a couple days ago. Howard offered to give the first interview to Stephen before Jimmy because Stephen has better ratings. But Stephen knew that Howard and Jimmy were really close friends and Stephen told Howard to do Jimmy’s show first because he knew Jimmy needed the ratings and because of how close they were. That says so much about Stephen and how friends and relationships come before ratings. That says so much about Stephen’s character.
    Great interview by the way!

It does say so much about Stephen - I knew that the story must show Stephen in a good light and that's why he demured. He probably didn't want to call attention to either of their ratings either.

If you guys were wondering what the story Stephen didn't want Howard to tell, it was about his appearance on The Tonight Show with Fallon.
In his radio show leading up to the promotional tour of his book Howard talked about dreading going on talk shows and two of the talk shows that wanted him on were Colbert and Fallon. Howard is friendly to both Colbert and Fallon and Howard thought that if he went on one show before the other that it might seem he's showing favoritism, that is not the case. He ended up doing a coin flip to see which show he would do first and the winner was Colbert. A few weeks later Howard was back on the radio talking about how bad and stressed he feels about doing Fallon's show second, although if Fallon won the coin toss he would feel bad that he was doing Stephen's show second. Stephen heard him on the radio and called Howard (off air)and told him to do Fallon first and he's OK with it. Howard actually tells this story on his appearance on Fallon.

So proud of Howard, He's evolved so much as a person. When people act like assholes, toward other people just for a laugh, it's almost always about there own insecurities. Howard has always been a comedic genius and one of the greatest interviewers of our time. After years of psychotherapy and addressing different forms of trauma from his childhood, he has a more positive outlook on life. Howard, now understands that his parents did the best they could, and that's all any of us are capable of. My own personal background has so many similar parallels to Stern, which is why I always found him relatable....In my opinion, he has managed to use his popularity and influence to become an advocate for therapy. There's always been such as negative stigma attached to mental health. Love is the greatest medicine there is. There's no better feeling than the human touch from people you connect with. Freeing the mind is freeing the soul! I love you Howard
