  • This is the fist time ive ridden a bike in 30 years, So please dont criticise the effort. This is a BSA D1 1951 Bantam 125cc, I have had a new carburettor fitted along with electrics, the tool box now has a 6v battery, All this can be safely removed should need be without ruining the actual bike, the bike was NOT damaged in any way in order to update it for road safety.
Hope you enjoy the film was a good fun for me.

In the '60s I bought a BSA Bantam 125cc for the sum of £5, this included a helmet and gauntlets. It was my first motorcycle as I had just turned 16. I couldn't wait to get it on the road. The insurance was £3.10 shillings and the tax I think was about 10 shillings. I loved that bike, it gave me the freedom to go where I liked. I've had many motorcycles since the BSA Bantam, but It's the one I remember the most. They were good days to be young.

The barel had been fitted with a trumpet filter and no carb, making it harder to strt the bike, so i ended up buying another barel and 316 carb now shes fine. Thx

Remember...'those who can, do and those who can't criticise!' nothing here to criticise anyway, excellent effort after a 30 year gap! and way better than many I've seen on utube, especially when considering it's a proper bike and not a 'point and press' machine!

I bought a 1952 125cc Bantam in 1970 for £4:00. Mine was the same colour, but only had a single saddle and no rear suspension. It was a bugger to kick start, so always push started it till it warmed up.

Good little bikes once going, but the embarrassment could be excruciating when trying to start one after school in the high school motor parking lot, with your mates watching, especially when their Victorias, Puchs, Jawas and N-zetas started first kick! If your Bantam started second or third kick, you breathed a sigh of relief!

Hi again FiercePython, thanx for reply. Glad your D1 running well
A lot of bantams can be temperamental to fire up with the conventional ign. & the wee atom can resolve the problem.
But I agree, if your D1 is starting & running well, is nicer to stick to original. Happy New Year & health to enjoy your D1.
