I would be glued to a match play tournament. Whether for the season final, or at any time during the season. Could also do like Major League Soccer does and have a Supporters Shield winner which is the team with the highest points at the end of the season, and also a Cup champion that wins the playoffs. Just another option.
Love the idea of bracket-style match play event - a-La March Madness, but I would shorten the play-in tournaments to 2 and bracket it to 64 players (final 2 tournaments plus the ‘play-in’ matches from top 70 and ties) and make it a full week, starting on Tuesday/Wednesday and finishing Sunday - First Round / Rd of 32 are same day, sweet sixteen/elite 8/final 4 and finals are one match per day
The bottom line on the pga tour playoffs is there are countless ways to make the finale great but They need to go through every wrong iteration first. I have been talking about byes for years. I too love the idea of match play. As I always say the key to match play is simply having more than just one consolation match during the final. They need 4 to 8 matches during the final. They also need to sprinkle math play throughout the season to make it make sense (also using more consolation matches). Integrity is key. Lack of integrity is why every iteration has not worked even when it does manufacture drama. - As for the deal with fox: we shall see. I don’t wanna get Mr short gamed on this one. They would have to be under the same umbrella to have a finale together. And if that’s the case why would they not play together sooner. Golf needs all the top 54 on liv. All the top players at full field pga tour signature events. All the top players qualifying for the majors. The pga tour needs a deal in 3 years ago. But alas they continue thinking time is on their side.
I like something like top 50 make a Thursday/Friday stroke play qualifier for Saturday/Sunday match play tournament. Top 2 from season earn a bye to the match play portion. 3 and 4 seeds guaranteed a match play spot but seeds can change based on stroke play portion performance. 4 wild card slots up for grabs. Maybe give option for 1 and 2 seeds to play in stroke play as practice rounds.
I completely agree with Frank on having a match play event, I always loved watching the dell. I enjoyed doing brackets for the tourney with boys. I don’t know if the Tour Championship is the spot for it but like Adam Scott said sell me on it. The tour championship needs to be a flagship event and it most certainly needs updating. IMO I’d much rather watch college matches, Am tour events, Korn ferry tour, the DP world tour before I’d enjoy watching a liv event for anything more than fun. XFL had a tv deal and it didn’t flow which is where I think Liv might end up. To me Liv is like the TGL, it’s for fun.
My thought would be to have a type of hybrid finale of the top 30. First start on Wednesday and give 1-4 a bye wjile the rest break down into groups with the higher ranked player choose the option of playing the match either stroke or match play. Keep this format until you get the final eight where the format is either match or stroke play. No matter how you cut it, the purpose of a playoff is to create excitement where higher ranked players are vulnerable to being eliminated while havin a Cinderella player to root for.
I agree with setting up brackets with a winner take all. This is why people watch march madness. Bring your A game. No coasting into the next round because you have enough points
Scott is right... If they integrated Match Play, it has to be integrated into about 6 Summer Events, not just 1... The other way is if you just award a "different" cup for who accrues the most points during the season, and then do a match play to decide another cup. The other issue is match play should not be decided at a single course... it should be like US Open where they tour different courses year after year and maybe a specialist will steal one from a great player simply because he's playing on something like "home turf" (a course that suits his game)
😮I am against the match play. You have guys like Billy horshel in 2018 when tiger won. However, Billy Horschel placed 2nd. He was 8 shots behind in final round, in 4th from last group to shoot -5 foe round and Finished 2nd😊🎉
Matchplay should be tried . Have season number 1 play number 50 . That should be a benefit in itself . And before they get to Matchplay , settle bonuses for end of season standings .
I completely get looking at other sports for the "season long race" talk, but you cant reference team sports. In any given team sport, you at least have the possibility of a team member stepping up to cover where you lack.
Just do as the do in the DP world tour championship,,, Biggest purse... Played as a normal tournament, having winner of the tournament and a separate winner of the season.... That said, I think matchplay would be most interesting, so you have your ranking so the better position, the easier draw etc.... In combo with a biggest point winner over the season. Imo
I think PGA should have a couple of match play events throughout the year that go toward the FedEx cup and kind of like an NFL season and then do the “playoff” Cup tournament giving the best few guys some byes
Playoff systems don't make sense when financial incentives in the sport are based on win/loss instead of salaries. Every single US sport you mention the players in those leagues don't rely on winning their championship for financial incentive it all for the pride an prestige. Winning the Fedex cup is important for its financial incentive of $10,000,000 not for its prestige & pride, that's what majors are for.
Broadcasting is the problem why fans turn off. Boring hosts, boring producers who tell the cameramen to focus on top 5 playets MOST of the time. IMHO.🤔🤔
I like your match play suggestion for the FedEx finally. As far as Liv is concerned it won’t matter to me what NW it is on. I won’t watch. It’s a crap product.
LIV should drop this insanely stupid team thingy, I mean who cares about the teams? Really? Made up teams? And the Shotgun? get rid of it. I have no problem with 54 holes and no cut and the can wear their shorts. And in one way I agree that match play is wrong format, there are too many player that can win an individual tournament so for that reason run a point system throughout the year very easy done, 200 p to winner of a tournament and then down 175, 160, 150 140, 130, 120 and then down in 5 steps until zero and let the Fedex finals be 250, 225, 200, 190, 180 and down in 10 step too 100 and teh 5 steps to zero. I don't know exactly if the points are correct but I think this would be most fair. Just my 2c
ok,LIV no letter who broadcast it,has no attraction to viewers by n large compared to the pga...the usfl did the same thing n threw money at nfl stars n changed thier format etc n it was a b team product n it didn't have history n fans wernt searching for a different football league, some players were willing because of the money....something with liv, players left for selfish greed, well off players had a chance to get filthy rich in an instant of just signing a contract and wouldn't be performance based ...here's a fact u can't deny, let's say all money would be equal before jumping tours...:none of those stars leave the pga n that's a fact, without the fucknu mibry offers ...something with the nfl n usfl...the ONLY difference in the usga n liv is the deep pockets...not the product, not the fan demand ....fans wernt ohhh thank god for another golf tour! by pga...nah,93,000 viewers in A major city like chicago as a host for ur tour championship is a joke
If LIV was available on TV, not RUclips TV, I’d drop the golf channel. I rarely watch it now. I’ve always been a Bryson fan,so I really concur with your comments. I do agree that a LIV / PGA would be the Super Bowl of golf. Great idea.
Match play is a great idea. I know there are a lot of LIV haters out there but that's how they finish the team championship. Iron Heads went on a run and finished 2nd in the team championship, beating Bryson's Crushers and Koepka's Smash GC teams along the way. Underdogs are part of sports and make for compelling entertainment.
Looking through here, haven't spotted a single comment against a matchplay season finale. Has to happen!! 4-5 days, things a little easier for the current leaders coming into it, but always a chance for the minnows to break through for a fairytale finish.
Not really interested in Match Play to decide it. . . I say cut the 10 stokes to 6. My biggest problem with viewing the Tour Championship, is that it emphasizes what I don't like about PGA Tour broadcasts in general. That they almost solely focus on the 'Leaders' - not just their shots, but watching them walk down the fairway, etc. Given the insurmountable lead, it was going to be a day watching Scottie and Colin walking down the fairway for 6 hours, when there is plenty of golf action going on with other groups - granted, not to win the thing, but still golf competition that we love to see as fans. I joked with my wife, when I started watching it this year - "Ready to watch 6 hours of Scottie Scheffler walking down the fairway?" Sure enough, first 30 minutes was just that - Birdies falling all around the course, but we got to watch him and his caddy walking down the fairway. Kind of boring. While I am one that supports both tours, they can coexist, and players could even fulfill PGA Tour appearance commitments while still playing LIV, the reality is LIV is more fun to watch. Just sayin'.😎
The simplest solution is to just have a regular season champ and then the playoffs with the ultimate end tournament having its own champion. They have made this entire fiasco way way too complicated.
Trying to do with golf that is done with other major US sports with a playoff scenario doesnt work because season long there are big prize pools for each tournament. Who cares if Scottie had a steller season and a Billy Horschel somehow wins the Tour Championship? We all know Scottie won $60m in prize money and so does he. The other team sports has a fixed salary for each player, wins during the season has little effect on earnings although individual performance does have a big impact on future signings. Its just that as a team win during the season its no biggie. Its about the final winner. Golf is different. Just accept that. I do understand its boring to watch a Tour Championship final if Scottie or Tiger or whoever has already basically won it halfway through the year but similarly having extreme extra points in the last few events doesnt fool anyone who the real best golfer of the year was.
That’s a great idea for the fed ex cup ,match play, also I think Jay Monaghan has to go .He’s terrible for golf and the pros hate him . How does he get 53 million good heavens.
I like the match play idea. The LPGA has to do something similar. Right now the LPGA championship everyone starts at even. SO they basically are not a season long event. I like LIV I think the PGA needs to add some fun to their tournaments. For me PGA has become boring. More LPGA/PGA team events, match play, Skins, maybe even games like Wolf. Take a look at Golf Girl Games these ladies are good and a lot of fun.
How bout award money for Fed Ex Series based on placement and then have all qualified people get an even shot at a large pot of money put up by Fed Ex. You still have a cut but those not making it get a pretty penny and invites to all the elite events. Other perks can also be offered. Those still standing duke it out for the big money
Like Adam Scott I think a matchplay final by the PGA Tour would be a mistake. There have been many times where the Matchplay the PGA Tour did have - had unappealing players playing in the final round, and the final PGA event of the year would be no different. It's not surprising ratings were down for Sheffler. No matter how much the PGA Tour, the Golf Channel, or some clueless talking heads on social media want to act like Sheffler is special he's not. His sliding legs, reverse C finish are ugly movements, and his personality is unappealing. Aside from Rory Mcilroy (and Adam Scott, Justin Rose, and maybe Jason Day) the PGA has very very few players with good swings and appealing personalities. The LIV tv deal with Fox could be good for Fox if it's televised on the main network. If it's relegated to one of the Fox Sports networks or one of the other Fox spin off channels then it could be even worse than the CW deal. LIV doesn't need the PGA Tour, and if anyone thinks egotistical Monahan and worthless Woods wouldn't do everything in their power to ruin and dismantle LIV with every bit of there of their corrupt influence they're clueless.
Single matchplay doesnt work unfortunately unless you get a Scottie v Rory type final. Remember when Billy Ho won the matchplay, 5 1/2 hours of bad golf, it was unwatchable and im a big Billy fan.
We do agree, a lesser name vs a lesser name would be a tough finale; but the best of the best are just built differently. You gotta assume you'll see power houses in the later rounds; but then again ... it's golf right?
Like any business, they spend the capital thinking they will make it, but so many don't. So, they file for bankruptcy and get some of their money back. I hope that in 2025, you guys get many more subscribers, you deserve it. i love your videos for the information on courses you share, but to get bigger, why don't you guys try to do more collabs, is it because of all the traveling and you two got families?
Scheffler wins 7 tournaments during the year, and a guy winning zero tournaments, but wins just the last tournament would be the fedex champion. That is so wrong. Plus the points double during the playoff. Again so wrong. Bring back a dell match play tournament. Great. Match play and stroke play are two different animals. I love match play but the guy with the lowest 4 day score is the better golfer. Those guys are so good anybody could beat someone on a given day. That’s why match play wouldn’t be fair.
Why not just revert back to the old structure? I don’t get why people are over complicating it. Everyone starts at even par like any tour event. So even if scotty finished 10th in the tour championship he could still theoretically win the overall fedex cup on points, the way it used to be played out?? think back to 2018 when tiger won the tour championship but rose won the fedex cup and finished second in the tour championship. The current structure takes away from the allure of the tour championship itself with the way players get a head start depending on their performance throughout the year. Everyone knew Scottie was going to win it last year and honestly, it’s not half as impressive winning the event with a 4 shot advantage over 2nd place and an incrementally bigger advantage over the rest of the field before the event even starts. Matchplay is not the answer either. It’s Micky mouse and it doesn’t always reflect who the best player is
You are describing the NFL playoffs to a T as your solution. And you just said you didnt lile the NFL sustem. With match play Scotty could have a bad first match or his low ranked challenger could have a great day. And its all over for the top player.
USPGAT got Livv a chance for tv coverage as they accepted PIFz offer to invest in the US Tour, with the domestic company already invested. PIF gets 11% share of USPGAT for putting $1.4 billion into it ( on top of $4 billion already invested ) and Livv gets to grift off the Tour as its smallest mini circuit. PIFz copied scheme was always going to turn viewers off golf & PIF thinking Livv would get non viewers to start watching golf makes no sense. The age group of these podcast staff is so far behind golfs history and development its no wonder they have such little knowledge to share.
You guys just don't get it - the Liv product is awful. The "hit a giggle" format is unwatchable - and no one cares about the "teams"....Roller Derby, WWE, and Tractor Pulls are entertaining, but they're not real sports...
this shows, why having a podcast or youtube channel for normal dudes gives people too much credit and makes them no smarter or knowledgeable than you and me reading my comment...first off a playoff for an individual sport compared to team sports is just DUMB to even go there,go to tennis, or any individual sport and tell me how thier playoff system works n takes in the viewers or if they even have 1...match play just because "you" like it ..doesn't mean it's what's the fans are asking for not are the sponsors n tv producers or networks....again this is individual sports, not a city n team n college to align with and be tied into for generations...tiger is not a college or city or team that is tied in to a fan base of decades that carry on with alma mater or a logo etc....what happens in match plSy more than the ncaa is u can be beat on any day in golf,n the ncaa kinda of deal with this and the ratings have suffered compared to when most of the best went to the final 4 90% of the time 25 years ago ...in golf the best could easily not get out of the first round ...you think anyone is watching match play if scottie, rory, tiger, adverg all lose in match play on thursday friday or don't make it to sunday ...that's a ratings nightmare and fans aren't asking for that ....same for the playoffs....only way to make the fed exams playoffs work is have a race in the season for the top 15 or 10 n then regular season events get intense n the cream rises to the top n then making a playoff that works for fans tv ratings sponsees and players can be more easily created ....it ain't match play unless ur match play is 10-25 deep of the best n brightest stars that draw audiences...n golf isn't that deep yet...even if bryson n rahm were on the pga...after those 5 it's a sport that telies on the course, the prestige the history n the challenge of stroke play n cuts
literally your format is LIV golf ratings like, no one would watch those events with no names and giving the cream of the tour bys on rounds ...for the networks n sponsors they ain't paying to give rory n scotty n tiger etc bys n not on tv..networks aren't paying LIV because it's not attractive to viewers by n large....u think watching no names golfers for 2 days is gonna take in novice or pull golfers away from tee times to watch this? see u guys are not getting it, most of golf viewers play it daily !!! n it takes 6 hours by the time ya ride there n play n get back home ...team sports don't have that issue
I hate the match play idea. Imagine if the only scoring baseball would be home runs or only 3 pointers count in basketball changes the whole game and the approach to how the game is played
Right now you compete in three playoff Tournaments x 4 rounds each = 12 total stellar rounds of golf if you want to win. With Match Play, you play 5-6 rounds total of stellar golf to win. It's less golf, but one HUGE event for the ages.
@ it definitely would be cool to see. I’m skeptical if it would be better since it would be more pinhunting to win holes than playing it safe to avoid adding strokes. So it would be different from the regular season. I appreciate ya bud!
Bryson will come undone with his affiliation with Trump .. lost me the minute he stepped on stage with him .. thought him having trump on his RUclips channel was a bit... Once I saw and understood what he actually stood for ... I was done ..
LIV is fantastic for us in the UK, truly global tour, with stellar players and most importantly ad free on RUclips or the app, US broadcasting is unwatchable because of the continual switch hour on hour between broadcasters and the amount of advertising. LIV has the opportunity to have sponsor partners rather than continual ads. Comcast, SKY, Golf Channel coverage is unwatchable, and we dont, lastly the pundits are also a turn off, Chamblee and co, Paul McGinley and the others are boring stat based morons
There are still casual PGA TOUR fans who know where they can find golf on TV every weekend. But it's obvious the fans have lost attention of every week events and counting the days for the next MAJOR or Ryder Cup.
Match play was once the only way. Break the season into 2 or 3 parts with a match-play event, featuring different formats (even at several venues) where positions in the Fedex "race" can change dramatically. Finally, the last tournament is Match play, maybe even a mix of the formats.
I honestly think the biggest problem is the how the golf is being produced and broadcasted. They should completely rethink how they approach it. They need to include more graphics, hole maps showing tracers, new camera angles - why is there no green surface cam so we can see the breaks? Why no spider cam or drones to follow the drives? They should follow player's progression on a single hole before cuttkig away, use live editing... there is so much they could do, but they just keep doing the same old boring thing they have been doing for decades. It is lazy
That’s a great idea for the fed ex cup ,match play, also I think Jay Monaghan has to go .He’s terrible for golf and the pros hate him . How does he get 53 million good heavens.
Match play always makes great tv and great viewing!
The DEL match play was always always a must watch.
I would be glued to a match play tournament. Whether for the season final, or at any time during the season. Could also do like Major League Soccer does and have a Supporters Shield winner which is the team with the highest points at the end of the season, and also a Cup champion that wins the playoffs. Good idea, no one complains about other sports are decided by a single game or series.
Yes, match play would be great.
I agree with the Bracket seeding idea.

Golf doesn't have a championship like football or baseball. It has four majors.
Yes! And golf doesn’t need to be like those other sports
It has the tour championship, what are you talking about ffs.
Stepladder finals like in bowling. Number one seed only plays at the end. 5 seed plays 4 and winner plays 3 and so on…

Could be an epic week for the TOUR.
They need to be able to get their product out. So us people that are streaming, which is most of us, aren't logged in two a cable package

Thanks!
In match play every shot means something!

Excellent suggestion for seeded and byes given for match play finals.

Bracketed match play sounds awesome
Top x players get a bye in round 1 and re-seed after each round.
100% agree, great idea.

I like LIV I think the PGA needs to add some fun to their tournaments. For me PGA has become boring. More LPGA/PGA team events, match play, Skins, maybe even games like Wolf. Take a look at Golf Girl Games these ladies are good and a lot of fun.
Better off on CW fox will make you pay on FS1
How bout award money for Fed Ex Series based on placement and then have all qualified people get an even shot at a large pot of money put up by Fed Ex. You still have a cut but those not making it get a pretty penny and invites to all the elite events. Other perks can also be offered. Those still standing duke it out for the big money
That's not a bad idea right there.
Adam Scott cheats and anchors his putter. Who cares what he has to say
Are y’all going to the PGA show
We'll be there Wednesday!
B-O-R-I-N-G
Would love the match play format
The system is good how it is however it is boring as hell. Might as well go to match play it's not a major anyways.
I’d be down for whatever Liv is but the fact that it’s kind of a soft power exercise by a modern theocracy kind of kills the vibe.
Match play can eliminate all the big name players very early which makes the finals uninteresting.
True.
LIV golf 🚫
What happens if all the big players get beat earlier and second half of the week no viewers no big big names no viewers
But that could happen in other sports right?
I like match play idea
LIV is very hard to watch and their media team is terrible except for Farity.
Hey there, no one wants to watch Saudi Liv golf!!!
I hate the matchplay idea
Television’s biggest issue is time zone. Fox will be showing tape delay for more than half the events.
That is true, a lot of LIV is played on the other side of the world. But, it still may get viewership as we don't know what time it is there.
this shows, why having a podcast or youtube channel for normal dudes gives people too much credit and makes them no smarter or knowledgeable than you and me reading my comment...first off a playoff for an individual sport compared to team sports is just DUMB to even go there,go to tennis, or any individual sport and tell me how thier playoff system works n takes in the viewers or if they even have 1...match play just because "you" like it ..doesn't mean it's what's the fans are asking for not are the sponsors n tv producers or networks....again this is individual sports, not a city n team n college to align with and be tied into for generations...tiger is not a college or city or team that is tied in to a fan base of decades that carry on with alma mater or a logo etc....what happens in match plSy more than the ncaa is u can be beat on any day in golf,n the ncaa kinda of deal with this and the ratings have suffered compared to when most of the best went to the final 4 90% of the time 25 years ago ...in golf the best could easily not get out of the first round ...you think anyone is watching match play if scottie, rory, tiger, adverg all lose in match play on thursday friday or don't make it to sunday ...that's a ratings nightmare and fans aren't asking for that ....same for the playoffs....only way to make the fed exams playoffs work is have a race in the season for the top 15 or 10 n then regular season events get intense n the cream rises to the top n then making a playoff that works for fans tv ratings sponsees and players can be more easily created ....it ain't match play unless ur match play is 10-25 deep of the best n brightest stars that draw audiences...n golf isn't that deep yet...even if bryson n rahm were on the pga...after those 5 it's a sport that telies on the course, the prestige the history n the challenge of stroke play n cuts
literally your format is LIV golf ratings like, no one would watch those events with no names and giving the cream of the tour bys on rounds ...for the networks n sponsors they ain't paying to give rory n scotty n tiger etc bys n not on tv..networks aren't paying LIV because it's not attractive to viewers by n large....u think watching no names golfers for 2 days is gonna take in novice or pull golfers away from tee times to watch this? see u guys are not getting it, most of golf viewers play it daily !!! n it takes 6 hours by the time ya ride there n play n get back home ...team sports don't have that issue
LIV is boring on TV and great live
What we are losing interest in is the liberal networks that air the game!
Do people still watch the PGA?
There are still casual PGA TOUR fans who know where they can find golf on TV every weekend. But it's obvious the fans have lost attention of every week events and counting the days for the next MAJOR or Ryder Cup.
You guys are wrong about so much so often 😂
You're right. I found them so wrong it became funny. They pop up in my comedy feed
you got the energy of a free onlyfans girl🤣🤣
Match play was once the only way. Break the season into 2 or 3 parts with a match-play event, featuring different formats (even at several venues) where positions in the Fedex "race" can change dramatically. Finally, the last tournament is Match play, maybe even a mix of the formats.
Match Play all the way!
It is lazy
Greg norman a loser and choker in major tournments
That’s a great idea for the fed ex cup ,match play, also I think Jay Monaghan has to go .He’s terrible for golf and the pros hate him . How does he get 53 million good heavens.
