I love the way this guy, alway shows respect to everyone's stuff, and U can tell he is a very kind person!!!
Justine Kessner a totally agree
Thank you very much Justine this is a very kind comment :) x
And he is handsome too😊
@@BrosOfDecay I HOPE THAT I WILL BE MEETING U SOMEDAY🙂
Yea I agree
These people were definitely not poor, these people lived very nicely.
I report
@@kikirizki8399 why?
Yes, indeed beautiful house in the yard wow
True.
If these people were not poor that does not mean it's not tragic what has happened to them.
I am Portuguese and I can guarantee that this family was not poor. But upper middle class farmers.
House size, furniture, appliances, clothes, toys and even the simple fact of going to school, poor people were certainly not.
Nice words Gisela , how are you doing ?
Same thing I was thinking 🤔
It's true! they lived in a house "designed for poor people" such BS lol
That is very expensive furniture. Not everyone had television in Europe in the 1950s for a variety of reasons. These people were not poor for the time. There were huge families living in 400 square foot slum apartments in Western Europe until the 1970s!
Nor could they afford to buy that much land. You are correct. They were NOT poor.
star stuff I was thinking that that furniture looked very nice and well made..not cheap at all!🤷🏼♀️💕
seriouslyjoking2 I think you are absolutely correct!
star stuff I agree I know my antiques 😀
star stuff i agree with you. They got a huge house also i don’t think poor families could just build a house like that.
At 10:06 you commented that it looked like there were some women’s clothes left in what looked like the fathers room ~ it’s very possible that he just couldn’t part with his wife’s clothing. My dad passed 3 years ago and my mother still can’t part with my fathers clothing. She has even moved to a new home, and she still hung all his clothes up next to hers in the closet.
Awe, its hard to get over someone that you loved. I would do the same.
They were pretty much rich not poor. I can't afford this kind house even now also in 2020
😄😄😄😄
If this home had been abandoned in North America, it would be completely spray-painted, looted, and destroyed by vandals. So nice to see this home was respected and left as the owners had left it.
Very beautiful home and great video.
I think that this house is not completely spray-painted because the house it's in the midle of the florest and it's far from the city if it was near the city the house wouldn't have windows anymore and would be completely spray-painted :)
Btw I'm portuguese
I like when he says "You can't live alone all your life, of course" 🌹
Even though the house is decaying, it's still beautiful. And the landscape is awesome! Wouldn't the land be worth something?
Mary Lou exactly what I was wondering and confused about !
It should be this place is full of treasures and memories and it’s there waiting now just to create more for others
That is a fairly nice house for “poor people”. It is spacious, with ample furnishings ... but true no mansion. With love in a home you can feel very rich 😊. It seems this dad dearly loved his girls. Thank you for showing such respect for this family and thank you for the explore.
I don't think they were poor though. To me they look wealthy. I'm sure somebody came and took the TV and some of the stuff from this house.
I wonder how the twins are.
Gaye Estey me too
That’s what I want to know
Probably dead 😭
I wonder what happened to them too. They could be dead or they could be living their new lives somewhere while holding on to these memories
They are probably dead and if not really old
It breaks my heart that pictures are left in homes
Pictures are not replaceable
Husband and wife work so hard, built this amazing house and live such a great life. It's sad that everything is just abandoned after his death. I'm sure he'd have never thought that. It would have been so great if the twins had done something to this house well if they were adult then or maybe their relatives would have done something.
the twins where adults in 1986,,, they where born in 1950s,
I wonder if the twins are still alive. If it had been my family home I'd want to see it again.
I agree with the comment below. This young man (Leslie,I think is his name) shows the utmost respect for the memories of the people who have left their homes abandoned. I like the way he always keeps his voice in a hushed tone, as if he were in a sacred place and how if he does move something to get a better look at it, he always puts it back where it was. I really enjoy seeing the videos the brothers show us.
So sad to see this home once loved falling apart.
Me too 😞
Most likely it's the usual story , a sizeable land tax/rates debt owed to the local council which any heirs figure as making the property a losing concern & with the $ needed to renovate etc. . so eventually some crooked crony of the council will eventual acquire the property for peanuts & develop & subdivide & make millions
I would love to go back in history and see how all these rooms and abandoned things were being used. Such an interesting vid !
In a parallel universe my friend .
As a portuguese,it warms my heart to see how respectfull you guys are with our abandoned houses.
Thank you!!
Its possible that the man never got rid of his deceased wife's cloths.
True... Also after that family all left, there could have been another family living there. Since the photos were in color, I suspect the photos were from another family. Another family member. Then some of that family took what they wanted out of the cupboards and closets and left. More than likely the house was too big to pay for the upkeep.
@@dawn7612 nice words Dawn how are you doing ?
I didn't get the impression that this was a particularly poor family. Thanks for your tours, brilliantly presented...and with lots of respect!
i think he said boer as in farmer not poor..
ok nvm I watched the whole video nw yes he said poor my bad 😅😅😅my south african brain thinking he said boer
That house was built very well! It’s held up amazingly well . Goes to show you that the homes built commercially just don’t cut it as they fall apart much more quickly. The structure here looks sound . Didn’t see any roof collapse or damaged floor boards . No cracks in walls. That man did an excellent job on this beautiful home . Too bad it wasn’t worth anything after he passed . Another video very well done !! Thanks 😊
Hey Louise yes indeed they did a very god job building this place I just adore it :) x
She wasn't drawing herself in the garden . She was drawing all little girls favorite of that time Holly Hobbie .Just thought you might want to know .Good Video.
O thanks Penny for this wonderful information!
yes, Holly Hobbie !! My favourite
I was thinking the Dr thing. Holly Hobbies was big in the 70s
penny Grace4me I recognised that drawing , remember drawing that myself
yeah the brothers age really shine though
So endearing she drew herself, her sister and her dad as smiling trees❤️Doesn't that just say it all? 🙏❤️💕
The furniture indicates these folks were better off than originally thought. Thanks for the tour! and thanks for your very respectful attitude toward the personal property!!
OMG.... the house is so destroyed since the last time I filmed it!! 😲So much things have been destroyed.... Sad 😢
Sad to see that people destroy these places :( Thanks for watching my friend!
i would love to see your own video of the house
@@BrosOfDecay it's probably not people, but time. Rodents or other small animals can do a lot of damage as well. Just as the structure itself is deteriorating so are the things within it. Most people who explore abandoned homes follow the unwritten rule that things are to be left as you found fhen. It's not only morally wrong to take things but many believe that it brings bad luck. At least where I come from. I personally think that the damage appears to be what is expected after 30 plus years. And I do not think that the family was as poor as you say. The home appears to be well built and quite spacious for it's time and the furnishings and clothing are of good quality even if they aren't the best. In those days the average family did not have large entryways and poor families did not have formal dining rooms. The kitchen itself is fairly large. And the washing area that you saw was actually quite sophisticated for a home that lacked indoor plumbing.
Obrigada😄
madree p great comment!!! I agree with you wholeheartedly on EVERYTHING you said!!!💕 I definitely do not think they are poor either. Smh it bothered me that he kept saying that.
I love how gentle he is with the stuff and he doesn’t just leave them wherever he puts it pack where he saw it
The house didn't look as stunning as some you have found, but it was a home filled with love ♥️ so many memories, it's fascinating to see the snippets of people's lives, I just love your videos , amazing !
I agree, Carol, but the inside sometimes tells much more. I enjoy going through these homes and seeing the memories of the former inhabitants
I was so happy to see that it hasn't been trashed, or defaced. It seems quietly respected!
Most likely it's the usual story, a sizeable land tax / rates debt owed to the local council which any heirs figure as making the property a losing concern & with the $ needed to renovate etc .. so eventually some crooked crony of the council will eventual acquire the property for peanuts & develop & subdivide & make millions, well how are you doing ?
Your voice is liquid gold. Better than any TV person. Another incredible interesting story . You guys are keeping me sane
Lady Laois totally agreed
Well in my country in the 60s only rich people live that kind of house with those furnitures and appliances
Can you continue this episode , you can search where is the twin sister now?their kids? More interested if you view al their photo album family.
Yes it would be nice if some of these videos were followed up with a little history of the families who lived there. Usually there are places maybe local libraries or somewhere you could get information on the area and the history of those who lived in these towns. I have seen him come across photos, names and other items left behind that would be a good start. It leaves many of us wondering why so many of these people left their personal possessions, houses, land and memories behind.
This was the first time I was able to read the childreens books and I understand every single word. I'm from Brazil and our first language is Portuguese. Congratulations on being so respectful of these people's memories
I don’t think this was considered poor for that time if they built this BIG house 🤷♀️...just saying it seems middle class, he keeps referring to them as “poor” historically for someone in that time this looks pretty good living. Pick your words wisely my friends.
I agree
This was a well to do family

I agree with you!
This is not a poor persons house ..it would have been lovely in its time ,the rooms are all a good size ,the hallway so like this in many of the houses of the period ,it’s less space taken from the living areas..From what you see of the remaining furniture it looks to be good quality ..but this was a great find and I love how you show compassion and respect for the original owners ..great video lads..Stay safe 😀
I don't think they were rolling in money though hun
@@dorothyjones1129 for the fourniture it's a middle class. The fourniture in question is not cheap...
Maybe the furniture was inherited.
The dining room is soooo sunny and beautiful!!
Nice words Marisa , how are you doing ?
Love the children's school work and the effort and time they did to do such lovely work. Thank you for taking us with you Lesley and team for sharing not just a house but a family's story too. You breathe life into every place you explore, love your humility and expressiveness and compassion. It's not what we look at sometimes, it's what we see - and time and again you transform something that is 'literally' decaying and restore it back to its former glory and keep memories alive that would otherwise have never been discovered or even lost. Stay blessed and thank you.
He probably just kept some of his wife's stuff. People do that.
That's what I thought too.
People rarely let go of their partner’s things in this scenario

They might have been poor in materialistic items, but they were rich in love, which in the end that's all that matters the most. I envy their type of life.

It's the Dutch speaker Belgian guy. I really like this guy: he is very soft-spoken, very calm and very interested in learning about history through old heritage and abandoned sites. He must be someone great to talk to and have a cup of coffee/ tea or a glass of wine together. All the best
That was nice to see the house from inside, but it's sad that the father has invested a lot in the house and raised his kids who seem not to take care of a place where they grew up and had lots of memories..

Why did the twins leave everything in the house? Howcome nobody took over the house? The furniture is just left there.
In South Africa this house would've bn raided or even squatters would have taken over.
Portugal is so nice.....people do respect other peoples things and belongings and dont steal. So unusual for me to see this.....
Anya n that’s sad that it’s unusual for you to see that. Some people have no respect. Or maybe they’re just trying to survive. Either way I find it sad that you haven’t seen places and things respected and left alone.
Here in Mexico squatters would’ve seized it as their own.

This home tore at my heart strings, how it started out as a happy loving couple, then as the years go by, blessed with TWO babies, but then Mommy passes away leaving Daddy to raise his children..(tears)..something tells me he never married again, he still had some of his wife's clothing in the room, some people just can't move on, the love they had for the person they lost was like losing a limb, then trying to function without it, it's hard on a human heart when love started but never seen the ending. Love seems to freeze through time in that first stage. They may say "till death do we part" but for some, that just is not long enough, as it was for my parents :-( R.I.P, he did her justice by devoting his life to the beautiful children she left behind created from their love, they were NOT Poor by any means, they were rich with the one thing money can NEVER buy---->> LOVE!.....this is just my take on it. :-( THUMBS UP!!
Glad to see you wearing gloves. Out of hundreds of people you are the first. So many people go in these homes touching things with dirty, mold, and all kinds of things bare handed with no care
This person's voice is Awesome.
And this was a loving family house.
Good to see the pictures of Jesus Christ. In this house.
The woman clothes looked vintage, late 1950’s to 60’s also the dolls are 1960’s. I always wonder why so many personal things are left behind. Nice words Paulina , how are you doing ?
Did nobody else notice. When you were checking out the portable sink, you opened a little box. In that box was a piece of paper. When you unfolded it there was a noise of something landing on the floor (14.32). You missed the old fashioned little key that fell out. It must be importanteif it was hidden. A secret from the Father to his daughters maybe. I think that this is a beautiful house but filled with so much sadness. Are you still in Portugal, can you go back ? 🌿💟💟🌿
Actually it wasn't a key, it was 3 screws that fell out. If you slow down the playback speed you'll see it.
I also heard it! It had to have been a key to something, maybe screws, or some sort of important part to something that needed repair??? It was apparently important or it wouldn’t have been wrapped in piece of paper and carefully stowed in that covered dish! That’s a shame! Leslie, it could have been the hidden key to a treasure chest somewhere on the property!!!
I also saw something drop out of the paper.
It was the screw inside the dish
The pink depression glass bowl at 3:36 on the credenza was beautiful. He may have kept some of his wife's clothing for sentimental reasons. A simple home of a working class family. The stained glass windows in the door were very nice. Take care and try not to catch that bad stuff going around.
Sad how this shows .things we love and cherish just left.😢good little tour thankyou💕

@@ideenfee not necessarily. Me and my sister are the ONLY twins in our WHOLE family. My mother's family never had them , at least not for the 4 last generations, same goes for my father's family .
The video indeed is confusing . And I don't think they were poor for their time , they actually we're pretty average and you can even say they had a comfy life . The land , the furniture, the big house , all of that costs a lot .
So average would do . Not poor.
the twins didnt die,,,, unfortunately these brothers are not historians,, they get their stuff wrong all the time, ( its actually painful ), this stuff is all 1970s /1980s right down to the holly hobbies drawings
If the twins or any family are still alive, they would love all the photographs, it's a shame so many memories in the house.
I agree the twins are still alive but couldend care less about the place :(
Weird, on the vanity there is a document that says "vetted by the censorship committee".
Also the house is not so small for them to be poor, quite the contrary. And in the 60's if you had a tv, you were rich, so it's not unusual for there to not be a tv there..
There was a military dictatorship in Portugal from 1926 to 1933, so that may explain the censorship
I could listen to your voice all day. X
That was a beautiful home, if the twins are alive why didn't they take some of the things, so sad to leave it all behind.
