I was going to try and add it to one of my 5" builds but haven't found the time because the micros are just as much fun. My favorite micros are HX 115hd and beta85x and Tinyhawk II. Thanks again Nick for me these LR's are extra versatile especially since I haven't jumped in to DJI or CaddxHD, seems like it would be a good candidate for a 4k Tarrsier too.

I come from fixed wing RC. Got into FPC drones about 5 years ago. I typically do mild freestyle flights. I enjoy a variety of flight modes including cruising. I think this drone may satisfy desires to fly a sub-250g at places I go camping. I don’t want to worry about range. That way I can get some nice video footage along sea cliffs or hillsides and not worry too much about regulations

I have a flywoo Explorer LR..... I don't often fly long or even medium range. However I do enjoy the extended flight times and the more relaxed, less Acro focused flying style. The gps for me comes in handy specifically for the osd information. Height and distance from home and more importantly the home arrow as i often fly over moorland here in the UK and it's super easy to lose myself. The gps rth as a failsafe I've never needed.

As for the long-range stuff it sounds fun in theory but I think I'm like you and would chicken out well before the equipment would fail. Plus I need to go find a place I can fly that far which is hard these days. I can imagine the GPS being a nice thing to fall back on as a safety cushion in case you get so far out when you get lost
hello, what is the duration of the flight with a naked gopro? with a lipo battery and with li-ion? how big is the battery?which is better to choose baby 4 or baby5? who flies longer?
Great review Nick! Nice to see you out in the wild! 🦓🦒😉 Great little quad. I can also hear Ace Ventura screaming: throw a shrimp 🦐 on the barby! Sheila bring me my crocodile 🐊 baby! Even worse... The dingo stole my crocodile 🐊 baby! Lol 😂
How would you compare this to the Hornet HD 3"? I think that is more the style I want to have/build. I don't want GPS because I care more about weight and flying characteristics. If I could have it, I'd like the weight of a TP3 but with a top mount like many frames with DJI Vista. Hornet seems the closest from what I've seen. Since I fly in a city park, noise is also a big factor, where the Babytooth is best and my Diatone Cube 229 is also good.
In your opinion is there much point in getting one of these without the DJI system? I love the idea of long range but not willing or able to put the money into DJI. Therefore even an XM+ will go as far or farther than the analogue video. Thoughts? P.S. Nothing is more important than the health of your family!
If we have line of sight xm+ can likely reach very similar distances. In my experience the DJI system does much better when obstacles are between us. I think crossfire is the choice for most when doing analog LR.
Hi Nick! Great review (as always)! I have the Baby Croc. I got it a week or so ago from Geprc. Haven't flown it yet though. I ordered separately one of the long range batteries. 15 days after my order and it wasn't shipped yet so I cancelled the battery order. I will get one somewhere later (maybe Flywoo LoL). I have a Strix 3s 3500mah 18650 pack I can use. It should do pretty good. Anyways, thanks for the great review. I've been waiting for a better review on it.My Flywoo Explorer was dead on arrival! I wasn't about to go through the hassle of a Chinese return. I've been down that trail with Banggood a couple of times. Impossible to get a Goku f411 right now. I'm replacing the ESC and FC with a Succex. Hoping my Baby Croc is a better experience. Thanks again Nick! Happy Flyin!
I have heard about some QC issues with the FW LR, I suspect they started running shortcuts with the high number of orders they unexpectedly got. Not the right way to go, but its my suspension.
Hi Nick YEP I still fly wings and fix-wing and I have been flying quads of course to and I have been looking at the GEPRC and FLYWOO for a 4in GPS long range quad. I don't want to go miles away but I do have some cliffs that I would like to see. The GPS option is a nice feature because of the high grass and rocks that if it would go down it would be hard to find so being able to RTH doesn't sound to bad. Thanks again for the video and information.
Pids are very specific to the components, quad weight and arm layout. I would expect them to work all that well. I don’t have this quad anymore, but manufacturers are often putting the cli files on their website. In your case with betaflight 4.3 I suggest looking at the pid presets available in the betaflight configurator
Excellent Video ZOHD LionPack 3000 mah for my geprc crocodile baby ....... I used to fly with 4s Lipo.... Do I have to make any change on my setup on (Betaflight or in the DJI fpv goggles) to get the Lion battery voltage reading ? I flue 1 time with the Lion pack and I get the low battery warning 5 minutes after take off. Thank you.
It will read voltage normally. I would move the low voltage warning down to say 2.5/cell. LION should be safe to discharge down to 2.2v/cell per my reading.
I'm looking through the video, however, I have not see a test of the rescue mode/RTH during your LR flight.. Was that tested? maybe I missed it.. Thanks :)
I did not test it. Last time I tested resuce mode on another quad, I didn't know I needed to be at least 100m out, and ended up in a patch of thick brush, after and hour and some bleeding I had the quad back. 😆
First, very good video; excellent explanations. What is long range? Depends on who you talk to. Some say 2K, some say 5K, some say 5 miles...no standard. For me, long range is going beyond the range of the XM+ receiver (is that 1K ??); then it is just how "long" you want to go. As for the GPS, YES, I believe it is helpful if you go very far out or you are not familiar with the terrain. I think a anyone can easily become disoriented when in flight; so the GPS provides a way to point you in the right direction to get the quad back home. In fact, I like that feature even if not going really long. I am adding GPS to all quads larger than 3 inch and maybe some of those. Anyway, I say lets keep the GPS and keep calling it long range, because the quad is capable of long range, even if you just cruise your back yard. The quad is still a long range craft; this one can go long whether the pilot does or not. Now, it is my understanding that the 250 gram weight category is All Up Weight including battery. Fine, but strap on one of those 4s 18650 packs and you are over that mark. Just sayin'
cant find the bind button the only button i see is on the caddix vista unit ,,,so does that mean i have the dji version reciever and need to have dji controller
You have the no rx version? The caddx vista can be both for video and control link. The same button on the vista does the binding for both. We do need to bind the goggle first though.
Hey Nick, in your video you were at 14V with about 12min of flight time which would put you at 3.5V per cell. If these are discharged to 3V per cell than I would think you wouldn't get any more than 15min MAX flight time, am I thinking right? It seems these batteries are only getting 1/2 of what they say they are?
With a typical lipo yes that is correct. The lion batteries (18650 cells), typically used for long range (and used in the open range flight), can be safely discharged down to 2.2v/cell.
@@afterburnerrc6333 Take my advice with a grain of salt. I have read we can discharge them down to 2.2v/cell, I have never done it. In long range flight I would aim for 3v/cell, gives us some overhead to find our way back.
I am enjoying the fast flight part in 0,25 speed. Your precision is crazy. What about video to broke down your signature moves: chimney turn, tree carving and 360 roll in between? This would be interesting.
Nick, I just got mine, and was looking thru youtube for like a guide to do the initial setup. I found nothing :o. To your knowledge, is one available somewhere ? Since this is my VERY FIRST Digital quad EVER, (I got the BF2 option from GepRC that included the goggles :) ), would be nice to have a walk thru video of the setup with the new digital stuff. Might be a good video for your channel, as I'm sure I'm not the only one to get this as my first digital model with only analog world experience :) BTW, I'm subscribed to your channel! Great stuff!!
Yes indeed I do need the GPS, one time I did the mistake by listening to some RUclipsr, telling that GPS no needed and lost my $400 drone!... So please don't suggest that, alot of begginers going to lose their quads?
Prayers for your kids my friend! Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it ;-) BTW, how high and how noisy is it? I will use it for security..so noise can be an issue. Again, thanks!
We can go really high, but the FAA limit is 400feet. The noise can likely be heard from about 100 yards but that will depend largely on the environment
@@NickBurnsFPV 100 yds? Sp if I fly it at 400 feet, it should be 'relatively' quiet...that's good. Again, thank you for your help. I'll let you know where I'm at in this new field Lol. Cheers

Something happened with your render. RUclips is only giving me resolution up to 720. No 1080 or 1440 HD options. As for GPS, the answer is YES. If it is a reasonable option on the build then I say include it. I would certainly like having it if I were to fly outside of my usual proximity/freestyle range of a few hundred yards.
Sweet nick lovely long range .. nice change for you I suppose also .. if you had cash would it be a buyer or a leaver in your opinion .. I know were all different but what you think personally
I'm gonna start with this guy and try to fly it around 8km+-. Then I'll do an FPV plane, I hope l can do 35km as maximum. I think I can do that with a high gain directional ELRS system.
Not sure why people who make these don't make a proper long range/light freestyle quad... For long range make it as light as possible; for some mild freestyle add some extras and remove gps
Gday Nick, yes yes nice slow flying, thats my type of cruising, its my favorite type of flying, sadly my wallet won't let me have the hd version or dji goggles 😒, i have a mate that has a big propety that this thing would be so awsome for flying around it, maybe one day, this one seems better than the flywoo 4 inch dont you think so Nick? great review awsome work mate.👍🛸😒

Long range flying is illegal in Canada, and most other countries, without special permits. I suspect it is also illegal in the US, but I'm not a lawyer. I just have to wonder if anyone doing long range flying is aware , or even cares, about their legality, or liability should something go wrong.

Great review man! I subbed and hit the bell. Can't wait for more reviews
If a quad can carry gps it's worth it for peace of mind ie getting lost or more likely signal loss.
kinda want to surf Oregon Coast with a long Range.
Some really nice valleys to explore.
probably don't NEED GPS..
but anything to help me get it back.
I keep thinking about bringing mine to Lincoln City and doing the same.
I want to build a long flying whoop like the 95mm betafpv frame.
a cruisewhoop115?
Yes indeed I do need the GPS, one time I did the mistake by listening to some RUclipsr, telling that GPS no needed and lost my $400 drone!... So please don't suggest that, alot of begginers going to lose their quads?
I wish there was some way to disconnect the battery from the FC so you dont kill a battery trying to find these things
mechanical switch, probably not feasible on most quads.
Could this drone carry an action camera such as a gopro session, runcam5 or a gopro?
yes it can
Prayers for your kids my friend! Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it ;-)
BTW, how high and how noisy is it? I will use it for security..so noise can be an issue. Again, thanks!
We can go really high, but the FAA limit is 400feet. The noise can likely be heard from about 100 yards but that will depend largely on the environment
@@NickBurnsFPV 100 yds? Sp if I fly it at 400 feet, it should be 'relatively' quiet...that's good. Again, thank you for your help. I'll let you know where I'm at in this new field Lol.
Cheers
@@sarge27271 I was thinking 100yards straight line, I could be well over stating that. just an estimate.
@@NickBurnsFPV Nick, I won't hold you to anything!! LOL. I really appreciate the info. It gives me an idea. I'm not running recon missions for the military...LMAO I just want something that gives me eyes at a distance without being overly noisy. I'd say by your experience, your guess is probably dead on :-) Cheers my friend!
This seems better than the flywoo lr. I have the a analog ver cuz i can't afford the dji. I had problems a mine n had to send it back to China. They said they will pay shipping. Will see how that goes. Good review.
I hope they get it back to you in working order.
This video convinced me to make a purchase! I bought a Geprc buzzer 😂
The buzzer is surprisingly loud.
@@NickBurnsFPV I like the single touch to stop feature. Being loud is a benefit for sure!
I would buy this HD LR, In my case I would only be buying if I had the time to go fly in big spaces, which is still a struggle for me
I'm gonna start with this guy and try to fly it around 8km+-. Then I'll do an FPV plane, I hope l can do 35km as maximum. I think I can do that with a high gain directional ELRS system.
+1👍
long, but enjoyed 'background watching" at 1.5x :) 💪
Look! Nick has a Mini-Me! 😂😂😂
kinda have three mini-me!
all up how many grams?
All weight, specs and measurements are in the video.
I have no idea how I got here but you seem nice :) Have a good day!
lol, thank you
Yah Babbyy!! 😉
I dont think quads will ever compete with fixed-wings for range/batterylife due to the free lift provided by the wings
wings definitely have an advantage
Lol I can just through a baseball at my 300 dollar drone to get it out the tree!! 🤣👍
yepper, really any ball I might find handy. Spent 30+ years throwing a baseball, I have a bit of those skills left.
Not sure why people who make these don't make a proper long range/light freestyle quad... For long range make it as light as possible; for some mild freestyle add some extras and remove gps
Wish I had GPS on the 5" that I just lost on my 7.5 acres of wooded wild growth land.. :(
oh man, loosing a quad that is rough. I have had moments I thought I had lost one, but fingers cross, I haven't yet.
Its hard to judge HD vs analog, I would lean toward the HD, but that is mainly due to having the googles/radio.
@@NickBurnsFPV Gday Nick, yes your right but you can get away with using a tx16s with crossfire so you dont need the dji transmitter Im just waiting to see what the new dji (rumoured) goggles what they are going to be like or how the fatshark system is going to work but both are expensive thats the only catch, the price, are you aware the yt is putting midrolls in most of your older vids just letting you know if you are benefiting from those thats all good as i often go back and watch your older vids.👍🛸
@@spartan-fpv6936 Cost of digital is going to be higher at least for a time. Yea, YT turned on automatically, apparently, mid roll ads. I have since change that setting, I haven't worked back through the videos prior to YT changing. Its a pain as each video has to be changed.
@@NickBurnsFPV Does yt pay you atleast for putting ads in your vids or are they the only ones making money from the ads!! that wouldn't be nice. 😒
@@spartan-fpv6936 The ads to pay, its pretty small about $300/month.
The highest option it gave me was 720p60. Not sure why.
yea, really disappointing, I rendered the video and uploaded twice. Source is 1440P, I think I am having better luck with 1080p.
Long flight time is not the same with long range 😉
It's 720p instead of 1440p (:
Yes, I rendered and uploaded twice, source is 1440p what youtube is doing I don't know.
It's just for cursing, exploring... I wish a retailer in the USA had em in stock.
I would expect US retailers to have some in about 30days.
Who cares, GPS is so cheap, why not have it?
I want a gps with a frickin compass so I can use real hover with iNav. I don't know why they bother using these gps modules without magnetometers built in
👍👀🇭🇷
What???? Yes, I need/want GPS. Please. It shows you’re still to lose your first quad.
*4024 props ;)
Great review! Since this one is lighter than the flywoo, I would really like to see what is the max achievable flight time. I managed to get 46minutes out of the explorer with a 3s 21700 liion:

Long range flying is illegal in Canada, and most other countries, without special permits. I suspect it is also illegal in the US, but I'm not a lawyer. I just have to wonder if anyone doing long range flying is aware , or even cares, about their legality, or liability should something go wrong.
Sad but true..we have little rights but a bunch of laws.. USA too and were the symbol of freedom too.
