My interpretation is that her friends have been so long gone she’s been forgetting them and friendship in general and with her not having that in her life it’s making her like nightmare moon. So before she transforms completely and does something she regrets she banishes herself to the moon.

In short, basically, Twilight started to get consumed by the grief, and though she tried to fight it at the start, she was unable to stop the overwhelming grief from fuelling her magic and corrupting her. In the end she thought friendship (and by extention magic) was the source of her grief, and separating the tribes. I suggest that you look the post cause it explains better than I can, I'm just trying to give you a resume of what's there.
And so the whole story has come full circle, from Luna in the prologue of episode 1 to Twilight at the end of her rule. I’m surprised she would be strong enough to holdout this long, being the last living member. For all we know Celestia and Luna gave up their immortality and are also dead by now 😢. (Personally I don’t think it would ever end this dark)
My guess as to what happened to Twilight, her friends, and Equestria as a whole is that as Twilight’s friends died, she slowly lost control of power. As she lost each friend she got depressed and once all of them passed, she lost her way and couldn’t protect Equestria anymore. I’m sure there’s a way to keep the harmony in check without her friends, but since she was grieving so much she just couldn’t. And that made the ponies panic and divide themselves. But my one question… if there was fear and hatred for each other, why didn’t the Windigos take over? Was it because the hatred was from fear and it’s mainly fear taking place?
From what I've heard, the wendigos fed off of conflict, but the divided ponies weren't fighting so there was no conflict. It was just fear and separation. You can't fight something you're far away from. I suggest looking at Sawtooth Waves videos, as he has some interesting theories.
It's kind of feel strange for me considering that Kimiko Glenn who sings this song is also voicing Izzy Moonbow from MLP Next Generation😐. Still it's great animatic👍
This is the saddest and most beautiful thing I've ever seen in the MLP community. I've never liked dwelling on the subject of Twilight outliving her friends, but this... this was worth watching. The emotion, the setting, the anatomy, everything was perfect. And I especially loved that beautiful flying animation. You've earned a new Subscriber.

Maybe also because she doesn't and or can't control the magic of the entire world of Equestria, she contains each kind into the separate crystals. (Just a little thought and I really enjoyed this animatic!😳)

This might be an actual possibility. Cause we know the main 6 are apart of G5 so we can assume that everything that happened in G4 is past history for G5. I really hope they give us some clues as to WTF happened past the end of G4 to lead to the beginning of G5.
This really bridges the gap. And I dont think it was specifically Twilight who brought about the situation of the Ponies, that there was an accumulation of separate events. Even if she abandoned Equestria, she would have left a system in place.

I have an feeling, if this story is true and we found out what really happened to twilight, we get to see the new generation my little pony, Sunny, Izzy, Hutch, Pipp, and Zipp had to fight nightmare twilight sparkle. This could be like nightmare rarity arc, with sunny, Izzy, hutch, pipp, and zipp fighting nightmare twilight sparkle.
What's interesting about corrupted Twilight causing the creation of the mlp gems is that she's originally a unicorn and we see the Unicorn race being affected the most by the lack of magic. Not just their civilization but their overall morale and life outlook. If Twilight really were corrupted, somehow, the divide might've hurt the unicorns the worst

Centaurworld; its a Netflix original. And despite the off-putting animation style and odd characters, the show is AMAZING and has phenomenal music. (And the characters definitely grow on you)
