May I ask you. Is the border crossing safe to walk from just after the Mexican guards to the taxi area at 10pm for a middle aged white guy walking solo?
I was a sailor stationed in San Diego in 1982. I would take the bus down to the border with friends. It was so different, almost like ghetto shacks back then. The first time i ever saw a corpse other than a funeral was tj. I was going into a club quite late and an old woman looked like a navaho with all her lines etc, was sitting with a blanket outside the door with her hand out. I told her i would get her when i was done. A couple hours later we left the club and i noticed her hand was still out but her eyes were frozen. I went to put a dollar in her hand and realized she had gone to the other side. Left an indelible mark on me for some time. I went out of my way after that to help anyone that i saw like that.
I lived in Chula Vista in 1967 and 68 and often went across to Tijuana. It was full of young fit-looking men with short haircuts! They were from the Pacific Fleet and Camp Pendelton, the Marine base. US servicemen were not allowed across the border in uniform but they were unmistakable. The two popular bars with the servicemen were the Brookline and the Manhattan, both long gone I imagine.
When I was in Santa Ana almost every Friday afternoon I would go to Tijuana and return Sunday afternoon. Haven’t been back in more than 40 years and the scene is completely different. No more streets food trucks…but on the contrary it’s full of street girls who back then we’re only in bars
Food stands all along that street; but back then a "do you want a taxi ride" meant a taxi right to the girls: young, somewhat slim, cute, friendly, These are COWS. Judging by t he big Kahoona keeping a close watch, you're more likely to get extorted or outright ripped off, or worse. No thanks.

No tengas riñas en antros y lugares de lujo ya que nose sabe si al que agrediste puede ser narco 2. De preferencia alejate de las dr*gas y de aquel que te las ofrezca 3. Evitas pelearte con otros conductores 4. Evita los taxis usa mejor Uber o Didi son mejores y no te robaran 5. No andes en barrios oscuros 6. Evita usar puentes peatonales en las noches. Con esos sencillos consejos puedes pasarla bien normalmente los mexicanos solemos ser mas amables con los extrajeros que con los nuestros 👍
In and after High School “94-97” my buddies and i would go down to TJ at least once or twice a month. Club A on revelucion st i think is how you spell it was one of the spots we used to go. We even rented 2 rooms at a hotel on revelucion st. We always had a blast back when you didn’t have to worry about getting your wig peeled back. Only worry was the federales and a chick with a standing ovation. Let’s not forget them HOT DIGGITY DOGS WRAPPED IN KAT I MEAN BACON! Those were as my step dad used to say “THE KINDS “BOMB!!!💣💣💣🌭🥓🐱🐈

Best food stand is across from Parking log at 9:56 on the RIGHT.. hands down. ! owned by women but she has 4 guys working in 2 shifts. Great food!
