beautiful performance !! remember growing up in Poland my n my friends were watching Robin Hood tv series and soundtrack by Clannad was magical piece of music for us - one of a kind... i live in Ireland now :-)
I lived in Germany as a teenager in the 1980s (my dad is retired U.S. Army). I watched "Robin of Sherwood" religiously every Sunday. I loved the setting and mystical elements of it, including the music. I wasn't familiar with Clannad at the time, but I still have their "Themes" CD from 1992 - so many great tracks, including this and a handful from Robin. Such timeless music!
@wolfsky3875 oh yes wonderful the Theme and Music from "Robin, "'The Hooded Man". Many do not remeber this lovely music. I liked the Series. From Australia here.
To look at you would never guess but when she sings you immediately know this is Enyas Sister. Another hauntingly beautiful voice and the song is just stunning 👌
@@mywishLE Maire Brennan when she was younger, in a video I saw the resemblance of Enya! I love both their beautiful voices! The harmonies they produce even when live are truly astonishing!
I played it at my late brothers funeral. He was military, I was even more moved when I found out the Gealic meaning is about a young soldier leaving his reputation behind him.. All the very best to you and your wife. May you both have a long and happy life together ❤
Hi there moya its Theresa here from new Zealand in Auckland i love clannads music ive always loved Celtic music because of the Irish decent and heritage i love you
I hope the Gaelic language and song is kept sacred and safe from obscurity. It is mystical, whimsical and also haunting. I have Irish heritage and have always been drawn strongly to the music and voices of my ancestors. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece.
I discovered this song only yesterday and I have played it non stop...I am in love with Moya and this song! I know what its about but it still is obsessive to me.
Im a protestant from a predominantly loyalist town but i can truly appreciate beauty when i hear it . Gaelic is such a beautiful language especially when accompanied by music . These harmonies are just angelic !
Every time this song comes out,I remember patrolling in the rain, standing on a road whilst a RUC officer talking with a local driver going to work, and at anytime wondering if I would get blown up or shot ,unsettling time.
My mum told me about the theme to one of her favourite shows, told me it was so moving and I was not dissapointed, this is one of the best live performances I know of.
As soon as I hear the opening sound the hair stands up on the back of my neck.I was in Belfast 2015 ,you could cut through the air ,the distaste still hangs in the air.The memory will stay with me forever,a gruff local said to me "A page oh you in the book, catholic tell by the look oh ya".
Haven't seen anyone commenting this yet, but one of the 'classic' dance/rave songs, and a beloved one is 'Saltwater' by chicane. Which any fans of this song will find familiar, and is what made me a fan of Máire Brennan. Although I've been a fan of folk music, from Celtic to Russian to Mongolian since I heard it. Also Motorheard. Music is life.
The old man, grey with torment, will go, The most beautiful skylark on the branch will go, The young man will go, and his reputation will follow him, All that ever will come and has come will go.
I watched the series that this was the Theme for I never seen a TV drama series that summed up a period so well. The utter futility of lives lost. I still cry many years later not just the music but all those lives. God help them and me!
I remember being a child and watching a Lexus commercial and this song came on and I’ve been in love ever since. That had to be in the early 90’s. Thank you Lexus.
One of the the most haunting songs ever.
Wish it was longer. ❤️

This was the first album I ever bought, inspired by hearing this on Harry's Game. 35 years on I am still as moved by it. Timeless and beautiful.
My eyes went wet... I've been listening this song as a child in late 80-s. And many more of Clannad. Happy New Year to all of us.

Music crosses ALL boundaries. Beliefs, biases, religion and politics mean nothing. WE ARE ALL ONE AND THE SAME. Music touches all our hearts.
Thankfully the Troubles are in the past.

Harry's Game was a depressing movie. And this haunting song just made it profound.
NowI'mMe was a Tv series
Magnificent, truly haunting. The Film is a hard watch as well.
Talent flows very strong in the Brennan family.

I’ve been searching for this song for 25 years. I thought this was sang by enya. Thank you film 4
Heard it for the first time today on the sustaining service before my radio show, I was moved to tears
I used to sit watching this song on TV in the 90's, silently sitting, drinking whisky, me and Patrick Bergin
Probably the best modern music masterpiece... Work of art...
Man, she/they nailed it live too!❤️🍀
Goose bumps….. 😢
Beautiful voices! Absolutely fantastic!

I am clueless what this song is about and don’t want to know either. This is pure magic to me and I’d like to keep it that way.
Nothing simple about this song... This is a lament to our generational fight for freedom and break the chains of oppression
From what?
