I'm delighted he got an Oscar and of course that our Irish man Cillian Murphy did too.
In an interview conducted at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Downey discussed how it was great to have been associated with Iron Man for the eleven years that he played the character, but now the heights of being connected to Tony Stark have lowered. Downey stated, "I will never be as cool as Tony Stark, but it was so great to be associated with someone like that for a while, and then it wore off."
Watching clips from before and after Iron Man. It's almost like his personality has changed. RDJ and Tony Stark are the same.
I absolutely love RDJ! I have watched his career go from a talented young adult with massive drug problems to the MASSIVELY talented actor that he is today. I give him so very much credit for admitting his issues and tackling them with the utmost aplomb, in addition to assisting those actors who may be experiencing the same things that he went through. He gives his wife, Susan, the credit for being the catalyst to finally get clean and I applaud how open and honest he is regarding his past struggles.
Congratulations on the well-deserved Academy Award, Mr. Downey. I am so very proud of the man you have become!

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed Downey in three of his Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances, explained how the actor kept the character fresh for so long. "When he'll come back to set, Robert is famous for throwing the plan out the window and climbing on top of the couch and whatever, sort of going off-book," Joe said. "He does this because he likes to surprise himself. He likes to keep things fresh. He lights up for that."
"There's no other way that he could have played that character for 10 movies unless he was doing that," Anthony added. "Robert has certainly lived a complicated life. He understands the stakes, he understands loss, he understands the turns life can take between ups and downs. He's always looking for that level of depth, that level of complexity. I think he knows that's what we all come to movies for in the first place."
Marvel Studios Firmly Shuts Down Iron Man's Return
During the same interview, dubbed "Robert Downey Jr.'s Third Act," Kevin Feige debunked rumors that Marvel Studios was considering bringing Stark back into the multiverse storyline. "We are going to keep [Iron Man's death] and not touch that moment again," Feige explained. "We all worked very hard for many years to get to that. We would never want to magically undo it in any way," he added, referencing Tony Stark's character growth over the years.-CBR

Adore this man !! He really is an amazing story of success and surpassing drugs from taking his life ! BRAVO TO his Wife! Congrats on OScar ! ROBERT! Mr Nolan is right he is one of the greats and should have won before this but this is how the oscars work. Keep on it Robert!

I'd seen tons of interviews of his and I'm sure there are several that didn't make the cut, only because the clips are hard to find. One I remember was after he won the Golden Globe for Sherlock Holmes with Billy Bush (who'd since been cancelled because of an unrelated Trump interview). And he asked if Susan was his Watson and she was his Watson and Robert's comment back was "I'll be whatever she wants me to be and I've got all kinds of costumes." And he's laughing at himself afterwards, disbelieving that came out of his mouth as easily as it did because he later said "that's the 2nd thing I said tonight that wasn't true".
Then there was one he did with Zach Galifianakis for Due Date and Zach got all defensive about being allergic to the dog on set. "When a dog hair gets in your eye, Robert, and it glows..."/"That sounds like radiation"/"It was ecstasy".
I loved Tropic Thunder. I can't imagine how they could do a sequel, but I hope they do.
He has all the joy of life that recovery promises.
