- This is a Ukranian folk song which became widely associated with mourning the massacre at Maidan in the Crimea in 2014. It speaks of a duckling but also asks where a mother will bury her son if he dies in a faraway land. We had 10 minutes to record this song just before a gig in Kelvin NSW, near Gunnedah, and a horse came to listen. The source of our arrangement of the song is here: • Folk Song - Kacha (Pik... and the full translation of lyrics follows.

Oh, duckling floats on Tisyna
Duckling floats on Tisyna.
My mother, don't swear me,
My mother, don't swear me.
Oh, if you will swear me at dark hour,
If you will swear me at dark hour.
I don't know where I'll die,
I don't know where I'll die.
Oh, I'll die on foreign lands
I will die on foreign lands.
Who will prepare a grave for me?
Who will prepare a grave for me?
Oh, another people will prepare,
Strangers will prepare.
Won't you regret, mother?
Won't you regret, mother?
Oh, my son, how could I not regret?
My son, how could I not regret?
You were laying on my heart,
You were laying on my heart.
Thank you from all Ukrainians! It’s wonderful singing! 👍❤️🇺🇦🇦🇺
Wonderful folk song, makes me wanna cry every time I hear it..
What a stunning song. Quite beautiful. Lovely singing from all.
Good work, dear Spookies. We must all do what we can, according to our talents and resources.
You should try hej Sokoly. It’s about a young Ukrainian Cossack , finding his love a bidding her farewell until he is back.
A bit more hope filled and one EVERY Ukrainian will love plus there is always Chechnya pamyat.
Love you Stevie boy but sometimes you are drawn to melancholic tunes and, please believe me on this, Ukrainian, Polish and the Slavs, do tend to sing of better times, especially when darkness falls.
A good bottle of Wodka helps 👍🏻🤣
Beautiful, sad, inspiring, gut wrenching. Can't wait to see you live again when you come to UK
