- We're moving on to buttoning the compression tube. It is case hardened from the factory. I show how to get through the case hardening and mill pockets for the buttons. I also talk a little about why I position the buttons the way I do. Hope you enjoy. Many Thanks For Watching!
Another interesting video Paul, it's amazing the difference in a home drop in tune to a real professional tune where every aspect is checked put right and built to perfection.
Many thanks!
Makes cocking smoother but the piston is pretty free floating without buttons , on firing
Thanks Paul, always informative of details you just won't get any place else. Keep them coming!
Hello Paul, I had never seen placing buttons, only on top, now after your explanation, it makes perfect sense, thanks for sharing, cheers.
You are welcome! I'll ad more in a future video. There are two reasons for buttons on the front of pistons in barrel cocking rifles. I'll do another short one. Stay tuned! (Pun Intended)
@@PaulWattsSpringGunning Mr. Paul, I'm always connected to your Videos, I don't miss one.
@@nlmeireles5109 Thanks!
Pistons are different on a barrel cocking rifle. They operate as load bearing and sealing. I'll go into further detail on a later video.
Jonathan will be a happy man your getting those done...lol.
And making a video of it to boot !
Ive learned a lot from him and your videos...
James from Michigan
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying them.
I saw my old buddy and mentor Ron Sauls in you pictures at the end. I miss him
Mr. Sauls was a class act. He is missed by many for sure.
Awesome! when I get a mill I will do this to my spring/gas piston air rifles.
Nice video! Good explanations on what’s going on.
Thanks! Much appreciated!

I check your channel out. Thanks for watching!
Hi Paul,
Are you using a carbide end mill for the buttons?
Steve
Yes, I prefer using a coated OSG. I'm out of them right now. The OSG end mills will usually go through the case on several tubes before I have to resort to grinding.
Just use a carbide end mill
You need EDM in the shop!
I totally agree :-)
I only need 40k for the one I want ;-)
Electronic dance music? nooooo
How is the buttoning done? I was waiting for that
I covered it in length on a previous video. I didn't want to keep showing the same info over and over again. Only the things that are different on each application. Here's the link to the earlier video: ruclips.net/video/OUSJgZQnkC4/видео.html Skip to 20 minutes 30 seconds to see the actual buttoning start.
You clamped it in a vise cross-wise, and machined it, then say "it's not perfectly round"... Don't you think it would have been better to clamp it end-to-end, with a support beneath it? Harder maybe, but then it wouldn't go out of round...
It's not perfectly round from the factory. The amount of pressure I'm using to hold it is very minimal and not what is causing it to be out of round.
Why?
Why what?
