Have family and friends that know you work from home is a challenge.. they think you have nothing to do except what they want. Need to set boundaries as well.
Still have office hours, set times to do specific tasks.. Not perfect... I am trying to run my day by my calendar - then focus on what is scheduled - NOT what is convenient.
Peace,

yup yup yup. I worked 7 years full time and quit last year to go freelance full time. I found that i have to give myself work hours and an office space. You can't work in bed, or on the couch, because then you're combining your work space and your home space and you can't seem to get motivated. And if i do need to do errands, i wake up early. Take an hour to do dishes, any cleaning, and any errands before 9am, then get to work until at least 5, sometimes later. On the flip side, people need to definitely still hold office hours, or clients will think they can bother you at 11pm or saturday at 2. Nope, i need a life or ill go nuts.
True, very key to organize your time if you're home based, else it will be spent unaccounted for. One of the key points shared on "Thrive At Home" Mastermind Groups and on the cheat sheet too. Thank you for reinforcing that.
Yep. You nailed it Derek. I put my phone on silence permanently. Creating a schedule is always a challenge and must recommit myself everyday. I put my phone on Do Not Disturb and "log out" of FB. Much easier to forget FB that way. I find that if I start my computer within the hour of waking up, the computer pulls me to it. Thank you Derek. Hi, Mark.
“You being busy on your life’s errands will not make you any money.”
Great advice Derek. Thank you!
So true...the temptation is there to make busy work!
I totally got identified with your case friend... small tips like this would have been great when I started and still are a good reminders.
This is a good video, I liked it.
Thanks Derek!
I hate it when people BS about being busy when all they're doing is struggling to wipe their own... I think this translates into a "regular" job environment as well. I know of people who make the same excuses, look busy, make a LOT of noise, but don't actually FOCUS and get the work done. They're the ones that are on their PHONES all day checking their messages!
The flip side of this, which doesn't really help anyone but I think is worth mentioning, is working for yourself is a lifestyle choice as well. I'm not talking about being lazy, disorganized and making excuses. But if I want to take a trip, visit a friend/family, I can pretty much do this any time of the year because I've built my business to allow me to do this. It makes me happy.
I like to be really organised with personal and business life. I can't say my business always comes first or my personal life always come first but I make the maximum effort and time for both individually, in the given circumstance. The life with my partner and my extended family is super important to me.
My husband was definitely guilty of this one 😆 working from a coffee shop made such a difference - he couldn't get distracted by errands and making food etc.
This is what that I needed the most right now! ❤
Very good ! New here .. Hi from Brazil
So true!
I struggle with shiny objects and squirrels at my day job. I have to focus like hell at home. The struggle is real.
When I take time off to work on my own gig it's hard to focus.
But let's be real. Its also a lot easier to do all the small bullshit rather than commit and work. Because if you don't commit and fail, you've given yourself an out.
That's why you see fighters often screw off the last few weeks of training, or come into a fight fat. THey haven't burned the boats and fully committed. They've given themselves that out of "well I wasn't in the best shape so..." It's a natural thing our subconscious does and we need to be aware of it to beat it.
Hell I am aware of it but I still haven't beat it.
Yes you have to hold to a certain level of discipline. If I do take time during the day for a doc appt or something, I know I’ll be working in the evening to keep projects going. Honey badger (ie, the client) don’t care. They want their stuff done.
Love From Bangladesh😍
You’ve gotta account for every hour the day/night before 👌🏾👌🏾
Thanks,, 😎😎
I like the video, but the title doesn't describe it accurately.
Sounds like exactly what I would do☺️
Yep, busy doesn't mean productive. I'm still working on that :) But still working a day job too so a lot fo shuffling going on over in the DeeDee World!
Hey Derek, I was wondering, why you didn't name your video "#1 Mistake when working from home". I find this much more appealing since people generally try to avoid mistakes. "How I work from home" seems not engaging for someone not knowing you or your channel. Changing the name may boost your views and exposure on this one. Peace!
Pat Flynn Sent me here :)
Hehe that's true Derek
I know someone .... that's me :))
lol 200 steps per week. Yup thats true.
