@@Francesca314 yeah, it must have been a difficult mental adjustment for her to accept she may never be able to do vault and floor again. She’s handling it so gracefully though. And her bar work is so beautiful I’m glad she feels strong enough to continue to train and compete

They understand the questions well enough so they have some level of English. Maybe they just don't feel comfortable enough giving interviews in another language.
As a French, I can tell you that it's pretty common to see French people who don't speak very well English (plus we are sometimes ashamed of our accent). Nordic countries and Germany give an importance to learning English in their school system, which I think it's a good thing.

How come none of the Italian and french gymnast speak english, but many other country’s do speak good english..
They're elite athletes, not all of them have time to learn English to a degree high enough to do public interviews.

Why Americans don’t speak other languages, but only english and expect that all the people in this world speak their language?
