I highly recommend P.D. James' memoir, TIME TO BE IN EARNEST. An extraordinary intelligent but also compassionate mind. Raised in the Anglican tradition (American version), I am now a Roman Catholic, so I would disagree with Baroness James in this -- the Church's theological history is thoughtful and connects philosophy and morality with the life, death, resurrection and teachings of Christ. These ultimately command moral consequences. I think this is demonstrated by the reading above of the Good Samaritan parable from Luke's Gospel. In any event, she was as fine a writer as 20th century England has produced.
Odd you used to be in the Anglican Communion. I was just searching her mysteries and saw this interview. I was just confirmed at my local Episcopalian church this morning.
