      Little by little, we are talking about an ATP 250, the bigger the tournament, the more it narrows down and when this happens it is the moment when the level and delivery of each one is measured.

      The reason why there was no DQ is because nobody got hit. It was close, the lady got feared, but she was not hit. This is where the rule becomes nonsense : you hit someone, you're defaulted ; you don't, it's just a warning. But your gesture is the same and, when you angrily smash a ball in the crowd, hitting someone or not in just a matter of good or bad luck and luck should not determine the sanction. So the sanction should be the same in both cases and, with such violence, I think it should be a default even if MIchelsen is a nice guy in general.

    Bruh...though it may be against admittedly second-tier competition, Sonego has looked like an absolute BEAST over this run. Shocking to see he's only inside the top-50 on the evidence of Winston-Salem. Looks like top-20 material with potential to rise, but he's also 29 y/o, and I said the same thing about Popyrin after his Montreal win. Sonego, in what looks like the form of his life, isn't gonna be an easy out in the USO. Michelsen is good, but he has a long way to go -- but at just 19, his best tennis (and composure) is ahead of him.

      Hypocritical Americans and the public as usual when it comes to their athletes. This lower-class American tennis player hits a man from the audience and is not disqualified, but that's why Novak Djokovic is disqualified after that woman screamed in pain and magnified the situation. It's a shame that no one and nothing like Mickhelsen has better protection than the worst tennis player of all time Novak Djokovic, if Mickhlsen has any honor after that I gave up the match. Usual trash from a tennis player.

    Once again, for being afraid to rune an event (too soon), for which people and brands have paid to be there, the referee takes a decision in favour to keep the game going, yet happened something way different in the past for similar cases. It’s all relative, and quite complicated to detach your subjective point of view (the referee) when there is so much involved in such a short time. And it is part of a video on TennisTV now :D

    Why michelsen is not disqualified for this??nole loose a grand slam title for the same mistake

    • @J.-M.
      @J.-M. 2 месяца назад

      Because apparently nobody got hurt. Many players hit the ball angrily into the crowd and when nothing happens, they just get a warning. This has happened to Djokovic (and other players) before, too. He was also hitting the ball into the crowd, but when nobody was hurt, he just got a warning. He was only disqualified when he really hurt someone. Just like when someone kills somebody in a car crash, even if it's unintentional, they get treated totally differently by the court compared to people who cause a car crash where nobody gets hurt. Even if the action itself is the same and the only difference is coincidence, bad luck. But the consequence always matters.
      By the way, Djokovic didn't lose a grand slam title because of it. It wasn't a final, it was a 4th round match, a very long road to the title. Thiem, who eventually won the title, had beaten Novak in 5 out of their last 7 meetings (including two grand slam matches), so nothing was guaranteed for Novak, he still had very tough opponents in the draw.

    These are the kind of tournaments that only Sonego will win and never an M1000 and much less a GS, these tournaments are out of reach for a player of his caliber. What's more, he gets to the US Open and believe me, he'll get to the second and/or third round and from there they'll send him home to eat Italian pasta. The only top Italian who will win many GS, along with Carlitos Alcaraz, is Jack Sinner, period. I love the Italian Musetti, but I think he lacks a bit more effort in his game, although he plays much better than Sonego. IMHO!
