    Divinity is so peculiar to me beause it simultaneously rocketed Larian to somewhat mainstream success and yet it still feels slept on. Great games all around, cant wait to play BG3 when I upgrade my rig

      Well said. I absolutely loved Divinity 1 OS (I wish more would discover it for themselves) and Divinity II. I just built a new PC system in order to play BG3 (as well as other uses) so I totally understand the need for an upgraded rig.

      Spend extra on CPU over GPU. Even an 8 core Ryzen overclocked to 5ghz hits 80 percent usage sometimes and the game drops a lot of frames. I'm actually going to hurry up and upgrade my rig to AM5 just because of this.

    This games soundtrack is a masterpiece. It's a fascinating and distinct soundtrack that no other game has ever really come close to sounding like. The late Russian composer Kirill Pokrovsky really put everything into this project. Larian really seem to value the music in their games, Borislav's soundtrack in BG3 will go down as one of the best OST's of all time.

    oh man the rock paper scissor persuasion checks are hilarious, in dos2 they just let you bruteforce checks by having enough raw stats but still have some fond memories in dos1 co-op. just as with dos2 you can 1 shot every single enemy in the game by using near infinite weight chest, lastboss included making it either an extremely challenging journey on highest diffuclty or an aboslute joke even with 1 save. The staggering amount in varying builds, encounters, ways to use enviorment against enemies i'm jealous of people that havent played this masterpiece.

    The biggest difference between 1-2 is the armor system. In 2 they have a specific magic/physical armor system where magic dmg has to go through the magic armour before it can do effects/dmg against the target, same with physical. In 1 it all is the same and worked out so you don’t have to worry about going 50/50 or all magic or all physical.

      It made CC effects useless in DOS2. Once you broke through one type of armor you don't need any freeze, stun, or bleeding anymore, it just 2-3 shots left to finish the enemy.

    • @BrentOfMan
      @BrentOfMan 2 месяца назад

      @@r.d.6290I would argue it made CC amazing since enemies especially bosses has massive health bars and usually had way to regain armour but you could CC chain them once you broke the armour and then destroy them and because if something not armoured cc will always work and unless you miss or it's immune which get rid of almost all RNG outside of the accuracy which you don't really miss that often so it's not even a big deal

    Loved DOS 1 and 2.
    In my not-so-humble opinion, in some ways, DOS 2 is better than BG3!
    Their own ruleset allows them to leverage the element interactions better than D&D rules allow.
    I mean BG3 is the best D&D game, but it is still based on a tabletop ruleset, so has limitations.
    I can't wait for Larian's next, which I'm pretty sure will be back to their own ruleset.

    I love this game, I played it first in 2023 and I think it holds up amazingly well and having played 2 and BG3 now, I actually prefer some aspects of it.
    The graphic style, not going for full realism, but instead a more simplified cartoony look not only had its charme, it also made it really easy to tell what was going on in battle. In 2 for example, the world was so "cluttered" with detail, that often times I had trouble seeing where my attacks would hit and more often than not accidentally hit my companions too, that never happened to me in 1. I also prefer it's combat, as I wasn't really a fan of the armor system 2 introduced and BG3 felt really limited because of how little you got to do per turn (I know it gets better with tme, but still). My only real gripe with it, is that towards the end it feels like they didn't know how to make the battles interesting and artificially raise the difficulty by throwing literal immortal enemies at you that did nothing but waste your turns, attacking you while you had to make them killable. And of course while the story is far from bad, it obviously doesn't hold a candle to bg3 and especially its presentation.
    Another little nitpick that got solved with 2 was party variety. It was all just human dudes and dudettes in a world of living dead, orks, etc. I hoped for the entire game to get some cool new companions along the way, only to learn that you meet all of them in the first few minutes of the game.

    I didn't expect much from this game before i started but this shit got me sleepless for two weeks straight. It is linear enough to keep you interested to the story and the world and sandboxy enough to make you feel like you are free to do as you want. You can fight a single enemy in so many different ways. There are so many moments where i thought the game wouldn't let me do the thing i wanted to do but guess what it lets you do it. So if you are tired of "open world" "rpg" games this game will feel like a fresh breath of air.

    Divinity Original Sin II is an overall better game but they changed some things in the gameplay that I just couldn't enjoy, like the changes to how initiative worked, or magic armor and armor. plus the story of the first game was more enjoyable for me.
    The first time I played the game I dropped it cuz I just couldn't deal with all the reading cuz there was barely any voice acting, the moment I realized the new enhanced version has voice acting I jumped back in and boy oh boy, literally everything had voice acting!

    The fact that you HAVE to have 2 player characters is really what kept me from getting into this game, roleplaying 2 characters at a time having conversations with myself kind of ruins my immersion, but would definitely make it a fun multiplayer game. But maybe I should give it another chance since I really like DOS2.
    Also, stylized graphics will age better than realistic graphics every time, this game will still look just as good in another 10 years while realistic graphics always look worse down the line.

    It may feel a little dated, but I still enjoy playing it nowadays.
    That said I never liked it as much qs DOS2, that game it's actually in my top 3 of most favorite games. I think that the quality jump between OS1 to OS2 was very big.
    However, the one aspect that I prefer in OS1 is the female villain, Leandre is way more developed than Dallis, to me Dallis is very weak as an antagonist (character wise, not gameplay wise), her development in the game is abysmal, her motivations are dull and uninteresting , and her connection with Fane feels like something they shoehorned in the last moment, I find her very underwhelming. Leandra, in the contrary feels more polished, especially thanks to her relationship with Icara and Sandalor.
    About BG3, it's definitely a really good game, yet it didn't blow my mind either, I still prefer DOS2 way more than BG3, especially gameplay wise.

    I legit had no idea the first couple of games were Diablo like I full on thought they were going to be like Baldurs gate 1 style which really put me off from trying them since those real time strategy games were hard for me to get into since I was so used to turn based.

      Being Diablo-like and not like Baldur's Gate is what made them far less appealing, frankly.
      That aside, it should be stressed that they were "Diablo-like" exclusively in terms of hack'n slash clickfest combat.
      Their distinctive feature was that while the combat was similar to Diablo, there was an actual RPG behind it. Branching dialogues, quests that were resolvable in multiple ways, an highly interactive gaming world resembling of the Ultima series, etc, etc.

    I'm not trying to be a contrarian here, I genuinely mean this: D:OS1 is leagues above both D:OS2 and BG3. D:OS2 was ambitious, but fell just short of being great due to some issues with the combat system and an inconsistent tone. BG3 is big, new player friendly, and it looks/sounds amazing, but as an RPG it's aggressively mediocre (and as a successor to the best RPG ever made, it's an isult). D:OS1 is perfect at everything it does, and doesn't try to do anything else.
    Larian played to their strengths in D:OS1. With the later titles, it almost feels like they were ashamed of their roots and tried to fit in with the cool kids. They made the games more "serious" instead of sticking with what they know and a lot was lost in the resulting mess. Both D:OS2 and BG3 are good games, especially for modern gaming standards, but they don't compare to the really great games in the genre like Tyrany, Pathfinder: WotR or even DA:O, not to mention the games from the golden age of RPGs like BG2 and Fallout. On the other hand, D:OS1 is the best game of its kind, ever, and by a large margin. The only games that could compare are maybe Grimrock or IWD.
    God, I hate that Larian will never make a sequel to IWD, it's such a missed opportunity.

      I do think they ashamed of it. Sad to see this when you genuinly like Divinity for what they were, but their big succes with dos2 and bg3 kinda set their path in stone and if they ever make a dos3, that would've been closer to bg3 rather than dos1.

    • @omgopet
      @omgopet 2 месяца назад +2

      @@Pmurder3 I would LOVE if they made another game in the spirit of DOS (could be DOS3 or something completely new) with the budget comparable to BG3 and with their current development experience.
      When it comes to gameplay in TB RPGs, Larian is by far the best in the industry. They have the talent, dedication and vision comparable to old Blizzard, and this is coming from someone who played nothing but Brood War and Diablo 2 for over 10 years when they came out. Please don't think I'm shitting on them as devs.
      My only problem is that their writing is always shallow and tonally inconsistent, which fits a game like DOS, but doesn't work for a more serious project like a BG sequel. It's like if Joss Whedon made Godfather 4. Unfortunately, now every dev company will try to copy their style of combining eldritch horror with talking animals and awkward flirting for the next 10 years, and well written games like Tyrany will be even harder to come by.

      @@Pmurder3I feel the same way. Apparently, being an objectively good game gets in the way of fun.
      PoE has a consistent tone, both in visuals and writing, which makes it boring if you play a long session. The classes are well balanced, so every combat feels the same and there is no power trip when your build comes together and your char becomes completely broken.

    I honestly got bored with the game. I like the core combat and dialogue options, but the story is so boring. it started off interesting with a murder mystery, but the introduction to multiverses and time gods made it dull. the game is also filled with bugs that are annoying. like the music turns itself off in every fight, making the fights less engaging. even in the enhanced edition, attacks will miss or characters will just skip their turns without attacking.

      I played DOS2 first, so I found many things that I think are inferior in this game, like the characters, the story, and the combat in a way.
      I still think that DOS1 is enjoyable even today. But definitely I do not replay it as frequently as DOS2.
      I have never found the bug you mention about enemies skipping turns. And what do you mean about attacks missing?
      About the music bug, yes, it exists, but you are exaggerating in something, it doesn't happen in every battle, and it happens only when a specific track plays, however, if you quicksave and then load the game, the music returns to normal.

      @@SeventhheavenDK I played it the same order Divinity Original Sin 2 first, Divinity Original Sin 1 second. And I'm not saying it's bad, but it's simply inferior in every way. I somehow never managed to complete even the first act. DOS2 is one of my favourite games ever. I thought I'd enjoy the prequel as well, but somehow I don't. I'd probably like it if I played them in the chronological order, but after DOS2, DOS1 just feels like taking a step back in every way.

      @@SereglothIV Hard disagree, specifically in combat where the original has a far better system. The magical physical split system really just ruined the gameplay for combat vs the save DC system of the first. 2 has a more interesting story and better options for diverse abilities. But requires mods to be a worthwhile experience for me as the core combat is just poorly designed.

    • @SereglothIV
      @SereglothIV 3 месяца назад +1

      @@praisethemoon- I prefer DOS2 combat. There's less RNG, as inflicting statuses is based on armor and not percantage chance. You also miss less often and everything is more consistent overall. I know the armor system has just as many supporters as it has opponents, but I'm one of the former.
      One thing DOS1 did better was the rock-paper-scissors minigame when persuading NPCs or especially when playing in coop and disagreeing with the other player.
