    Hi Paul
    You have inspired me with this video. I have now bought the broadlink rm pro and I am waiting for the blind motor to arrive.
    I would like to put a link to this channel from my video if that is ok with you.

    This is exactly what I've been looking for for years. I'm wheelchair bound and often sat in bed day in day out with my blackout blind down always as I can't reach it when I need to nap etc. This often adds to my depression due to the lack of natural light. Thank you so much. You truly don't know How much this will change my life.
    Looking at the links to buy I'm getting a bit mixed up. I don't suppose you would do a 1-1 video call to help me through some ideas and solutions to what I want to set up. I would be happy to pay you (though I guess it depends how much 😅)

    Well I’m well impressed, I bought three roller motors you recommend off amazon after watching your video and they are great addition. A bit fiddly to install at first but after fitting the first one it was a lot easier..
    I love the fact that they open and close with the remote and I’ve set it up with a app programmed for each day , I’m sure my neighbours are rather jealous.. Thanks again great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Great video, as always (mostly?).
    There's a Kickstarter project similar to this that can incorporate add-ons. One is a photo cell that can open or close louvers to maintain a set amount of light in the room. The Getty museum has used commercial versions for years to keep the right amount of sunlight in their galleries (UV blocked, of course).
    The other is a solar charging panel that goes on the side facing the outside and charges the battery to control the device. That way, you get rid of the power wires and extension cords.
    Last time I looked, they were starting to sell on Amazon.

    Cheers for the vid Paul - saved me having to make one, haha. You're pretty much on point with exactly what I've done around the house (I bought RF blind motors as I didn't want the arse-ache of running cables for the blinds although I've had to for the curtains anyway). My initial blind had a reverse voltage input, so I needed to make a relay system controlled by the Pi, but I found the RF solution far better. I use Domoticz to run the house, and like you, use the RM Pro plug in app as an interim (although it would be SO much better if the Broadlink Alexa app came to the UK Amazon market. It's cocked things up going to the US just to get it installed). I'm helping one of my best friends build a new house (I won't mention her name, but she's incredibly famous and you'll DEFINITELY have heard of her...) and the main thing she wants is what I've got: Alexa control of lights, blinds, curtains etc. So I'm meeting with builders at the moment to integrate all the cabling into her build so it can happen nicely.
    Keep up the great work: I'm already way past most of the things you post but it's incredibly important people like you keep posting videos so others can catch up! The opportunities for home automation, especially with Alexa integration, are limitless. Cheers, Jeremy.

    Paul, Thanks for the great videos! After watching I have bought a couple of the motors for use here in USA. Been talking to your buddy about getting 22 of them to do my entire home! Will be buying them a couple rooms at a time. I see that Alexa now does not need RM Pro. Do you know if Google Home needs RM Pro? Will Google Home work with RM Pro if needed? My entire home is Google based. Also, I am looking for a light sensor to automatically lower shades based on level of light. I see the Broadlink A1 but I don't see much written about the automation. Thanks in advance for your support.

    Thank you Paul for videos like this one, it's always a pleasure to watch them - very informative and fun.
    Could you please recommend a flush switch (zwave, zigbee etc), for EU roller blades which could be installed behind the regular wall switch?
    I'm already aware of few on the market (Qubino, Fibaro etc), but with they price of approx. 50 EUR per piece they are quite expensive, if you have many windows to automate.
    Cheers!

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  5 лет назад

      Sadly I don't know of any cheap options for slat style blinds, I liked the Soma Smart Shades stuff that I reviewed previously, but they're not cheap at all, that review is here: ruclips.net/video/rUWimvBEeZc/видео.html
      I think there were some RF options on Ebay that worked with the Broadlink RM pro and they would turn a beaded cord, but they weren't very strong and I've not seen them for a while.
      The smart blind market is still just emerging :(

    Great videos btw, seeing as your my go-to for advice on all things home automation, could I maybe use this to control a projector screen?

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  4 года назад

      It will depend on the frequency of your screen. If you buy a UK RM Pro then it will use 433mhz, but if your screen was imported (which a lot are) it may use 315mhz. The reverse is true for the US. If you buy a US RM Pro then it will use 315MHZ and your screen could potentially use 433mhz if it was imported from the EU. Hope that makes sense!

I need to hold the button for 2seconds to get continuos movement up or down. Any idea how to program that into the RM pro (and subsequently Alexa). Right now i can only get the blind to move in small increments. Need to ask Alexa to move it 300 times to get it to move down all the way. Thanks! Great video!

    • @kura1536

      Only with the RM pro, because it uses 433mhz. The bean only can communicate via IR.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  7 лет назад +1

      Guillermo Contreras hey dude, anytime! :)
      Sadly the blackbean is IR only and these blinds are RF, so the RM pro is a necessity in this case.

      Paul Hibbert oh! Ok that's fine, now I'm thinking, Since I have multiple motors (6) I won't be able to control them separately, because it's the same remote and signal for everyone, so the will all move togather , and since RF goes thru' walls, it may also move the motors on other rooms, I am right?

    Hey Paul, It’s really great video. 3 questions. If you can reply I will be so appreciated
    1. 28mm means the diameter of tube of curtain?
    2. Can we use different rf tubular motor? Your advised one is not easy to find. By the does it makes sense to use any rf tubular motor? Or what’s the main criteria to connect to broadlink?
    3. Can I use broadlink for my curtains in bedroom if I put broadlink in living room which has 10m away?

      I don't recommend Broadlink RM pro at the minute due to a lot of issues with it recently. Sadly I don't know of any alternative RF controller. The seller did tell me though that he was doing an Alexa enabled version that didn't require the Broadlink, I've messaged him to ask for the link.

    Hi Paul
    you are genius man , for along time i was studding NodeRed and Mqtt protocol and you just do a great projects in a very simple Easy way with no coding and no H.W Works, really it is amazing .
    i want to make a voice home automation system same like yours , but i am confused as i red in some posts and comments that the Broadlink RM Plugins has some problems when it comes to communicate with Amazon Alexa web service using Echo dot or Echo and also some versions of the Broadlink rm pro have problems to connect to Alexa , and some people on youtube moved to other ways rather than RM Plugin and also they are report some issues .
    Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz , if you can put a post or comment or a video on your channel to explain this in some details for the beginners and also from where i can buy the right Hardware for that project .
    Please Guys if anyone can help ......

    I really wish you would have expanded more on how to mount the blinds to the wall once the motor is installed. Does the bracket that came with the blinds still fit? Does the motor come with a bracket included?

    Do this require a Philips Hue switch? I am using your setup here setup to work around a problem I am having with the Broadlink RM Pro Plus via IHC. The learning feature doesn't work when I use IHC, but does when I use E-Control. FYI: This is not for a wireless shade motor. Main question: Did you use a Philips Hue switch/hub for this? TY. :)

      Hi Andrew, At the time I just used the RF remote that came with the curtain motor to teach the RM pro via IHC. I trained it using the lamp option.

    Hi Paul, excellent and entertaining video, as always :) I am setting up a projector in my bedroom, since the 4k one I have in the loving room is not enough. Do you think I could use this system to create an automated screen? Would love to hear your thoughts. Mickey :)

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  6 лет назад

      +Michele Falzone hey dude. I think the projector screen would be too heavy for the pole, the guy does do bigger motors for larger windows, but I think you would be better off just making sure the projector screen you get is running on the same frequency as the RM pro (almost all screens are RF and come with a remote that you could teach the RM pro with)
      If you bought your RM pro in the states then it will have a 315mhz chip I'm it. If you bought it in the EU it will ha e a 433Mhz chip in it.
      As long as you buy a projector screen that has the correct receiver in it then you will be able to control the screen!
      Thanks,
      -P

    hiya paul. Having been an electric blinds maker/installer for 20 years ( now retired), much going into topend smarthomes, i did have to cringe a little bit on motor presentation [lol] but a v good try. There is a chunk of market that seams to being passed over, that is the thousands of EXISTING blinds, of all types that have separate IR or RF switches, the motors being totally dumb. It is only relatively recently that motors have radio ' built in '. The broadlink device would AFAIK, work with the older controls because it seems it can decode radio with propriety code, eg raex, dooya, somfy, Becker, Ako, Chan.......ad nauseam... The IR versions are no issue at all. So far so good for my route to a smarthouse in which i have MANY blinds shutters, curtains and LED lighting that is not wifi-IR-or RF enabled at this point. however i struggle to have it explained to me how Mycroft would integrate into my scenario. An insight with your excellent presentation would be most welcome for those, like me, ...who wish to avoid the mega data collection by google/amazon/apple/FB....whew!

      @paulhibbert  5 лет назад

      Thanks dude! I am told you can just name them independently in the Broadlink app and control them separately, but it might be worth just dropping Zemismart a quick message to ask them. They're a nice bunch so they should be able to tell you for sure :)

    Hi Paul
    I fixed my second unit and have the 3rd one to be fixed today
    First one was perfect- up button work for up and down button work for down. In the 2nd one I fixed the motor on left (side) as that I wanted the motor to be in the side closer to my power source. Also the 3rd I am going to install has power source closes to left. The problem is now I am having down button going up and up button on remote going down. Is there way to reverse the order of this unit?. I could not find it in the manual.
    Not a big deal if I use RM Pro app but if I use physical remote (say kids) then it is totally confusing
    Thanks

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  5 лет назад +1

      hahaha, might be easier to print a sticker saying up and a sticker saying down and just stick them alongside the buttons. The remote doesn't really have any distinguishing features other than the stripe to let you know which way up it is and even that is a bit ambivalent. I'm assuming we have the same remote?
