Hey Paul thanks for your interesting videos.. Could you kindly tell me what is the Alexa Skill you mention ?
Can you please specify the alexa skill...thanks
Thanks for that video... all your videos. But what is that propper Alexa skill you are reffering to. I cant believe that exist because the motor is not wifi connected
Mate did Alexa upgrade support for blind controll or did the motor manufacturer make their own product compatible. Aka will alexa skill work on all 433 MHZ receiving blinds? =) thanks
Hey Paul, love your videos. Which Alexa skill we can use for this? I do have Sonoff Bridge & Logitech Harmony Hub. What is the best way for me?
Hi Paul, greetings from Australia! Love your work! Also nice to bring some excitement to your recent videos
THIS is the video I've been waiting on....
Hey, Paul -- enjoyed the video, especially for your inner child excitement at the fact that it worked fairly painlessly. I can definitely relate. Yay!
Thankyou so much brother, I have been looking for a way to do this with tasker for years... You explained it simply! Subbed.
Paul,
Excellent video, I will need to setup zebra blinds on my living room and office and this video will help me to do it. You are a champ.
Another top video, the blinds look awesome, I especially like the roll limit regulator on the remote.
Nice video. I usually enjoy your projects, keep up the good work
Hi Paul
You have inspired me with this video. I have now bought the broadlink rm pro and I am waiting for the blind motor to arrive.
I would like to put a link to this channel from my video if that is ok with you.
This is exactly what I've been looking for for years. I'm wheelchair bound and often sat in bed day in day out with my blackout blind down always as I can't reach it when I need to nap etc. This often adds to my depression due to the lack of natural light. Thank you so much. You truly don't know How much this will change my life.
Looking at the links to buy I'm getting a bit mixed up. I don't suppose you would do a 1-1 video call to help me through some ideas and solutions to what I want to set up. I would be happy to pay you (though I guess it depends how much 😅)
How have I only just seen this comment!?! So sorry!! If you're still interested in these blinds please email me at paul@paulhibbert.co.uk and I'll do whatever I can to help
Well I’m well impressed, I bought three roller motors you recommend off amazon after watching your video and they are great addition. A bit fiddly to install at first but after fitting the first one it was a lot easier..
I love the fact that they open and close with the remote and I’ve set it up with a app programmed for each day , I’m sure my neighbours are rather jealous.. Thanks again great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
where did you get them from ? all the links seem dead
Nice! Thanks Paula :D Dan, I think they only sell them on Aliexpress now, check those links as they still work I believe, if not here is the Zemismart store filtered to only show blinds: zemismart.aliexpress.com/store/1848374/search?SearchText=blind
Great video, as always (mostly?).
There's a Kickstarter project similar to this that can incorporate add-ons. One is a photo cell that can open or close louvers to maintain a set amount of light in the room. The Getty museum has used commercial versions for years to keep the right amount of sunlight in their galleries (UV blocked, of course).
The other is a solar charging panel that goes on the side facing the outside and charges the battery to control the device. That way, you get rid of the power wires and extension cords.
Last time I looked, they were starting to sell on Amazon.
So weird! I'm moving into a new house in a couple of weeks and have been looking at these just today, but thought I don't want to buy them incase they don't work. Then you upload this! Thanks!
work well
Great job, solved so many of my problems
Really great video and great product ,it make your life smarter.
You do great job, Man!
hi
I have just received my blind motor , can't wait to install it
Paul super video Danke
Cheers for the vid Paul - saved me having to make one, haha. You're pretty much on point with exactly what I've done around the house (I bought RF blind motors as I didn't want the arse-ache of running cables for the blinds although I've had to for the curtains anyway). My initial blind had a reverse voltage input, so I needed to make a relay system controlled by the Pi, but I found the RF solution far better. I use Domoticz to run the house, and like you, use the RM Pro plug in app as an interim (although it would be SO much better if the Broadlink Alexa app came to the UK Amazon market. It's cocked things up going to the US just to get it installed). I'm helping one of my best friends build a new house (I won't mention her name, but she's incredibly famous and you'll DEFINITELY have heard of her...) and the main thing she wants is what I've got: Alexa control of lights, blinds, curtains etc. So I'm meeting with builders at the moment to integrate all the cabling into her build so it can happen nicely.
Keep up the great work: I'm already way past most of the things you post but it's incredibly important people like you keep posting videos so others can catch up! The opportunities for home automation, especially with Alexa integration, are limitless. Cheers, Jeremy.
+DrSkyrme thanks mate :) sounds like a brilliant setup!
Ask your friend to give me a mention somewhere won't you! ;) hahaha.
All installed and works like a dream. Thanks paul.
😀
Hi Paul, thanks for leaving us hanging, whats the Alexa skill for these blinds?????
Hey Paul. Thanks for the video. Quick question, what's the range on the RM pro? Can a single RM pro be used to control several motorized roller shades in a 1600 SF home?
ok, i did it i change firmware to rm and works with rm plugin, now i can manage the blinds with alexa!!!
Hi Paul, I love all of your content and you provide a fantastic service for the industry, I have had the Broadlink Mini for several years and could never link it to Alexa. I have about 20 Wi-Fi devices all working well. I do think that Broadlink need to sort out their Alexa compatibility to remove all the faffing about
Great video! thanks for sharing
Wow... This is awesome!
Hi Paul, LOVE the vid, where in UK are you?
Hello Paul, your videos are great and quite helpful...as usual. I have successfully automated my lights using the knowledge from your channel.
Many thanks
Michael ndep you're too kind! :D
Paul, Thanks for the great videos! After watching I have bought a couple of the motors for use here in USA. Been talking to your buddy about getting 22 of them to do my entire home! Will be buying them a couple rooms at a time. I see that Alexa now does not need RM Pro. Do you know if Google Home needs RM Pro? Will Google Home work with RM Pro if needed? My entire home is Google based. Also, I am looking for a light sensor to automatically lower shades based on level of light. I see the Broadlink A1 but I don't see much written about the automation. Thanks in advance for your support.
I've watched a few of your videos and really liked them. I was wondering if you can schedule times for things to happen like open or close the blinds and or turn the lights on or off? Thanks
Awesome I'll get one for my curtain.
Hey Paul great video! I ordered 4 of the roller shade motors and on rmpro. Do you know if you can use the rmpro for 2 different rooms for the rollers? I have 2 Windows in my bedroom and 2 in my living room I would like to be able to execute commands to them all. Thanks!
Ive been waiting for this i bough this but the boradlink wont pick up the remote near or far but the shade will. pls help!!!
I was about to do this Long ago ..... but after watching this I might do it bro
Thank you Paul for videos like this one, it's always a pleasure to watch them - very informative and fun.
Could you please recommend a flush switch (zwave, zigbee etc), for EU roller blades which could be installed behind the regular wall switch?
I'm already aware of few on the market (Qubino, Fibaro etc), but with they price of approx. 50 EUR per piece they are quite expensive, if you have many windows to automate.
Cheers!
Sadly I don't know of any cheap options for slat style blinds, I liked the Soma Smart Shades stuff that I reviewed previously, but they're not cheap at all, that review is here: ruclips.net/video/rUWimvBEeZc/видео.html
I think there were some RF options on Ebay that worked with the Broadlink RM pro and they would turn a beaded cord, but they weren't very strong and I've not seen them for a while.
The smart blind market is still just emerging :(
Love the video Paul ? Does the curtain rod come with the kit the one you cut to length. 2nd ? Where can I buy in the US. Thanks keep up the work.
Paul how is this a few years later. Do you recommend as a whole home solution?
Hi Paul.great video. Quick question. After the motor is installed can you still use the cord to open it manually?
Can i come and play with Alexa at yours please lol.... really great vid ... tahnka to both you and your mate for the vodeo and construction of this item 🤗
Great videos btw, seeing as your my go-to for advice on all things home automation, could I maybe use this to control a projector screen?
It will depend on the frequency of your screen. If you buy a UK RM Pro then it will use 433mhz, but if your screen was imported (which a lot are) it may use 315mhz. The reverse is true for the US. If you buy a US RM Pro then it will use 315MHZ and your screen could potentially use 433mhz if it was imported from the EU. Hope that makes sense!
Hi Paul, great vids man. Keep up the good work....I was wondering if youve come across this problem
I have a varilight remote light which basically works with 1 button remote..quick press for on/off and long press to dim up/down.
Anyway of adding this to my black bean???
Hey Paul, great video, just got mines to work! Just purchase my rm pro+ coming in next week. Was wondering. I want to set a automated schedule for my rollers to go up in the morning and down at night everyday automatically. Will I be able to do this with alexa? Can you or anyone reading this can point me towards the right direction? Ty!
Hey buddy! great job on the tutorial, congrats! Since youre the master on automation, can you please help to configure my curtain blind using google home from an Iphone?
Paul, where did you get the poles from because the Dunelm blinds are a smaller diameter and the motors won't fit (hence why you changed pole. I've ordered some 30mm OD aluminium tube but curious where you got yours from?
May i know what pipe length you use for the rollerblind?
I have a remote for my blinds exactly like the one you show. On my remote however, if i touch it, it just takes the blinds up or down in steps. I need to hold the button for 2seconds to get continuos movement up or down. Any idea how to program that into the RM pro (and subsequently Alexa). Right now i can only get the blind to move in small increments. Need to ask Alexa to move it 300 times to get it to move down all the way. Thanks! Great video!
Hi Paul, AMAZING video. I followed your instructions and my roller shades are now controlled via Alexa! This will bring the roller shades completely up or completely down. Is there a way stop the roller shades half way?
I've never seen this channel before and saw it on my sidebar and literally thought it was Marcin Gortat.
baldcartman123 😂 wish I had his height! He is exactly one and a half feet taller than me!
Hello
What is the skill updated that you mention
Hey Paul, can we install a manual blind roller on the other side? Just in case of power outage and I want to roll it up/down
Can you use more than one of these with the same remote? Or do you have to use these with separate remotes? Is there any way to differentiate?
Hey, i hope you will still answer even though this video is over a year old. I got that curtain motor also, but i was thinking if the Broadlink RM mini 3 also would work with it, or you need to have the rm pro to get it working? Thanks
Paul,
Thanks for the videos! The descriptions attached to the US motor Amazon links appear to state that they still require the Broadlink. Are you sure about it not being a requirement anymore?
Cheers,
Paul Phillips
Hi Paul, great vid as always.
With regards to an 'always on' Android device, would one of the cheap (£35) Amazon Fire Tabs do the trick?
Great video, liking the out-takes too :-)
What you can do Paul is ask your mate from China to make something for vertical blinds that's what I need, be cool to get them to open and close.
jmsjim5 thanks mate! :)
On my Facebook page there's a comment in response to this video showing something that might solve that for you. Take a look here...
m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1800568129972581&id=1546780195351377
Cheers Paul, Yeah that looks like it will do the job just fine. I will see what Sonny says first.
amazing stuff !!! please tell us that he van build a battery version ..we dont always have a power outlet near :( ..battery version will be huge !!
Do you know if I can use the Broadlink RMmini3 for this? Thanks
Have you managed to upgrade to the version of the pro and if so is the app better for power consumption
Been looking to do this for ages but have a few questions: Do you produce a battery operated one as i cant have a wire trailing. 2. Will it be powerful enough to control roman blinds?
Hey paul ..I wondering why haven't you ever talk about broadlink plus ?? Is it better than broadlink pro ? Or worse ? Or just the same ??
Would be cool to see an updated version of this video.
Can Broadkink RM pro+ reliably open and close Louvolite roller blinds? I've just set mine up and programmed Broadlink to open or close all 5 blinds together in my bay window. It seems to have a mind of its own and I can't be sure what blinds will be opened or closed. Any tips, I'm not tecky so not sure if it is the device, wifi speeds or other factors.
Hi Paul.. great videos.. I´m planning to order some units to Zemismart. do you know if this device works with google home? BTW, I also have a broadlink RM pro..
Hey!!!! Great! Good to know it works!! I bought 6 of them already, I have them sitting in my closet waiting for me to buy roller blinds lol, quick question, Will the BroadLink bean do the trick? Or only with the RM pro?
Thank u as always ur making my life easier!
Only with the RM pro, because it uses 433mhz. The bean only can communicate via IR.
Guillermo Contreras hey dude, anytime! :)
Sadly the blackbean is IR only and these blinds are RF, so the RM pro is a necessity in this case.
Paul Hibbert oh! Ok that's fine, now I'm thinking, Since I have multiple motors (6) I won't be able to control them separately, because it's the same remote and signal for everyone, so the will all move togather , and since RF goes thru' walls, it may also move the motors on other rooms, I am right?
Hey Paul, It’s really great video. 3 questions. If you can reply I will be so appreciated
1. 28mm means the diameter of tube of curtain?
2. Can we use different rf tubular motor? Your advised one is not easy to find. By the does it makes sense to use any rf tubular motor? Or what’s the main criteria to connect to broadlink?
3. Can I use broadlink for my curtains in bedroom if I put broadlink in living room which has 10m away?
I don't recommend Broadlink RM pro at the minute due to a lot of issues with it recently. Sadly I don't know of any alternative RF controller. The seller did tell me though that he was doing an Alexa enabled version that didn't require the Broadlink, I've messaged him to ask for the link.
Hi Paul great video I was wondering which diameter motor your using 20mm 25mm or 28mm motor thanks
No idea dude. Sorry! I struggled to find a tube that would fit my existing tube and the seller sent me a tube in the end.
Hey, can we place the motor from any side of the roller blind housing, be it left or right ? Thanks
Thank you very much for the video. What diameter is the tube that you are supposed to use with this motor?
No idea mate sorry. Check the product link in the description. It should hopefully tell you there.
Hi Paul
you are genius man , for along time i was studding NodeRed and Mqtt protocol and you just do a great projects in a very simple Easy way with no coding and no H.W Works, really it is amazing .
i want to make a voice home automation system same like yours , but i am confused as i red in some posts and comments that the Broadlink RM Plugins has some problems when it comes to communicate with Amazon Alexa web service using Echo dot or Echo and also some versions of the Broadlink rm pro have problems to connect to Alexa , and some people on youtube moved to other ways rather than RM Plugin and also they are report some issues .
Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz , if you can put a post or comment or a video on your channel to explain this in some details for the beginners and also from where i can buy the right Hardware for that project .
Please Guys if anyone can help ......
I really wish you would have expanded more on how to mount the blinds to the wall once the motor is installed. Does the bracket that came with the blinds still fit? Does the motor come with a bracket included?
hi there got a sunpery c222 remote do you know what motors will work with that remote please
Ur happy with ur new gadget yeeepeeee
Great video Paul. Do you know is it possible to have different height settings that you can recall from Alexa - i.e. 1/2 open, 3/4 open etc?
John Sherlock I wanna know as well. Can you have a favorite position?
Awesome video as always Paul,
While watching, I was wondering if the Android device could be replace with a Raspberry Pi. Then I saw Dennis Schimmers comment about ioBroker. Is there any chance you could check this out and do a tutorial on it with you opinions?
Thank you
Do this require a Philips Hue switch? I am using your setup here setup to work around a problem I am having with the Broadlink RM Pro Plus via IHC. The learning feature doesn't work when I use IHC, but does when I use E-Control. FYI: This is not for a wireless shade motor. Main question: Did you use a Philips Hue switch/hub for this? TY. :)
Hi Andrew, At the time I just used the RF remote that came with the curtain motor to teach the RM pro via IHC. I trained it using the lamp option.
Having just got one I've messed up the settings.
Please help how Dou reset to factory default?
Cheers
Hey, Will this motor work with wider(5 feet wide) blind, as my blind is wider than this motor. Does a blind must need a motor which fits the housing or starts from 1 end and must reach the another end of the blind. Thanks
u r awesome
Do you still have this in your home? Can you drop or up the curtain in small increments or it can only be full up full down?
can we something like this with heavy duty load? I want to do this for my bed.
Hi Paul, excellent and entertaining video, as always :) I am setting up a projector in my bedroom, since the 4k one I have in the loving room is not enough. Do you think I could use this system to create an automated screen? Would love to hear your thoughts. Mickey :)
+Michele Falzone hey dude. I think the projector screen would be too heavy for the pole, the guy does do bigger motors for larger windows, but I think you would be better off just making sure the projector screen you get is running on the same frequency as the RM pro (almost all screens are RF and come with a remote that you could teach the RM pro with)
If you bought your RM pro in the states then it will have a 315mhz chip I'm it. If you bought it in the EU it will ha e a 433Mhz chip in it.
As long as you buy a projector screen that has the correct receiver in it then you will be able to control the screen!
Thanks,
-P
hiya paul. Having been an electric blinds maker/installer for 20 years ( now retired), much going into topend smarthomes, i did have to cringe a little bit on motor presentation [lol] but a v good try. There is a chunk of market that seams to being passed over, that is the thousands of EXISTING blinds, of all types that have separate IR or RF switches, the motors being totally dumb. It is only relatively recently that motors have radio ' built in '. The broadlink device would AFAIK, work with the older controls because it seems it can decode radio with propriety code, eg raex, dooya, somfy, Becker, Ako, Chan.......ad nauseam... The IR versions are no issue at all. So far so good for my route to a smarthouse in which i have MANY blinds shutters, curtains and LED lighting that is not wifi-IR-or RF enabled at this point. however i struggle to have it explained to me how Mycroft would integrate into my scenario. An insight with your excellent presentation would be most welcome for those, like me, ...who wish to avoid the mega data collection by google/amazon/apple/FB....whew!
Great tutorial! How do you control several blinds independently in same location?
Thanks dude! I am told you can just name them independently in the Broadlink app and control them separately, but it might be worth just dropping Zemismart a quick message to ask them. They're a nice bunch so they should be able to tell you for sure :)
Could I do this to a group of blinds ??? And if so what would be the best way to program it inside the app? So I could send like. Living room up, living room down or bed room up bed room down
Awesome man! I wanna know where you got that Batman cowl =)
Thanks for the tutorial! I have blinds using a 433mhz remote but to open them I have to HOLD a button. Do you know how to teach the Broadlink a hold command?
The RM pro actually learns the length of the press these days, so should be as simple as holding it for the right length during training!
Hi Paul, I have been trying to copy clone a roller blind remote with a model no. of DD1802H but have been usuccessful. Any advice or suggestions please?
Please do another vid for either the Alexa skill or the RM PRO + with the new broadlink software
^ This!
Paul,I wish there was an easy "work around" for Alexa to open vertical blinds.if you know of such an animal let me know cheers mate!
Is it possible to have this powered by a solar pannel the same way the soma one is?
Hi, thanks for the video. Where did you buy the roller pipe?
The company that sells the blind also sell a pipe to go with it these days, they're fairly cheap. If you ha e a look on their aliexpress website you should find it. 😊
Instead of using an old android device to run tasker, can you do it from an android TV box? Or do you know much about using a Raspberry pi? Thanks
Can I integrate that roller with Smartthings to add some automation?
It’s been couple of months since you did this install, how is the motor doing so far?
Do you happen to know what is the remote signal? IR or RF?
I was wondering if the motor can work with the harmony hub instead of the broadlink hub?
It's still awesome :) the one I'm linking to in the vid description is the same but works with Alexa directly and doesn't require a hub, it's from the same guy.
Paul Hibbert
I’ll take a look, I’m in USA not sure if that matters as far as shipping.
@@paulhibbert How does it work with Alexa, spent the whole afternoon with a RM Pro and alexa still cant get it to work.
So if I have one broiling say downstairs and I ask my Alexa upstairs to on curtains downstairs will it so does the broadlink connect to all my alexa devices for the one curtain if that makes sense
hi, i have a problem with the blind commands from rm plugin to alexa, i made the commands in rm plugin, working ok with alexa, but fter some time alexa says that blind is not responding, when i open rm plugin without do something alexa works, after some time the same thing, is something to do so the rm plugin stay connected with axa allways?
I want to use it with my google home. Will it works with a sonoff rf bridge?
Paul can you tell me where you got your replacement pole from? ... My current blind pole is too small to accept the motor
Zemismart sent it me. They sell them these days :) take a look at zemismart.aliexpress.com
Hi could you please do a video on the new ihc app broadlink and how that connects to alexa please
Hi Paul
I fixed my second unit and have the 3rd one to be fixed today
First one was perfect- up button work for up and down button work for down. In the 2nd one I fixed the motor on left (side) as that I wanted the motor to be in the side closer to my power source. Also the 3rd I am going to install has power source closes to left. The problem is now I am having down button going up and up button on remote going down. Is there way to reverse the order of this unit?. I could not find it in the manual.
Not a big deal if I use RM Pro app but if I use physical remote (say kids) then it is totally confusing
Thanks
hahaha, might be easier to print a sticker saying up and a sticker saying down and just stick them alongside the buttons. The remote doesn't really have any distinguishing features other than the stripe to let you know which way up it is and even that is a bit ambivalent. I'm assuming we have the same remote?
