To help send the drones all at once, you could add a timer block to them and in the timer block, setup all the actions you want, like unlock connector, enable all thrusters, enable ai etc.
You cannot hack/take over any blocks while the Ai Control Module (The Pink Remote Control block) is still there, it automatically takes control of any block attached to the grid. Also, You can turn off the "P" affecting the connectors. In the Connector settings it says "Use for Parking".
@@AndrewmanGaming I should've thought about that. I use that in my builds. I was so confused when you were having P issues... probrobly because I use xbox controls

Attack drones could be called Coffee Beans (partly because you are sending them into the "drone grinder" where they get smashed into tiny pieces) :D And I think you can exclude connectors from the P button? Not 100% sure and I don't have the game installed rn so I can't check easily, but I am pretty sure some blocks had that option
@@AndrewmanGaming You can exclude Connectors, Landing Gear, and Magplates in the control terminal. There's an option called "Use for Parking" or something like that.
Andrew, friend, buddy pal guy friendo french toast. While I love your "inovations" in swarm tactics, it might be helpful to send more than one drone in at a time. Look, build a bigger drone, with a strong core, and a becon. Have all the smaller ones follow the bigger drone using the "follow becon" command.
@@DizzyDJW Yes, but that doesn't mean you should allow yourself to get into the bad habit of hitting P. Which is easier, disabling "use for parking" on every connector, landing gear, and cockpit in your entire build, or stop using P and put "handbrake" on your hotbar?
Hahaha it's really a habit I need to get out of. The Pertam series finally got me to put connector on my hotbar. Maybe this series is the one that will get me to put handbrake on my hotbar.
To avoid the issue of pressing P disconnecting the drones, untick the 'Use For Parking' setting on each Small Connector. For the attack drones, I think you should call them Gnats (the G is silent) as while they are small, they have quite a bite to them.
I think a simple solution to your drone fail could be just having them set to follow the drone you control. Have that drone lead the charge into battle and their swarm tactic will protect them. That first drone will go down hard, so maybe instead of having it be a gatling drone, you could give it a nuke and have it kamakazie.
Instead of turning off the thrusters you can turn off the dampeners when you connect. It's done in the background when you connect to a static grid, but you need to do it manually when you connect to a rover ;)
Suggestion on drone attacking: While drones are not docked to a carrier, for each drone make groups of their own thruster groups, batteries, AI's etc... Then, when you dock them on a carrier, slap the timer blocks on a carrier and set the timer blocks to activate all the systems on a drone and undock them, you can also use event controllers to activate AI on each drone, just set it to detect the connector of a drone to be disconnected and activate the AI stuff. Ofc, you can go separate groups for each drone so you can release them one by 1 or whatever and also you can name everything same and activate all at once with 1 button press :D I know it is a lot of AI controller stuff settings to set but it works well for me :D One more thing, use the feature of turrets/AI aiming controllers and set them to target enemies weapon subsystems instead of any by default. That way, each drone/turret will always shot on enemy weapons until it's destroyed and it will stop shooting when it's done. I mean, you have better chance of winning the battle when all the guns are focusing on enemies weapon systems (guns/turrets etc) In multiplayer games, when I build turret(s) or some AI aiming thing(s), I always set them to target enemy weapons, weapons are only subsystems that are threat for my ship of being destroyed. My setting that I use for the aiming is always to target large or small grids, not to target enemy players, not to target meteorites, missiles etc, only target is a fixed weapon or turret weapon and that's it. I also usually slap only 1 or 2 anti personnel turrets which only target is enemy player and all other stuff is Off as well and they are not targeting grids, only players etc. Anyway, keep up great content Andrew and great channel. Can't wait for next adventure to see Hope this info gives you some ideas in the future. And don't forget to NOT use the P key for docking/parking (on rover hot bar, select cockpit from G menu and find option for toggle hand brake and put it to hot bar, I always put it on number 1, it is the best way to stop the vehicle fast without moving the hand all to the other side of keyboard ^^ and it is similar to P key but without side effects :D ). Also for docking, always use connector switch lock toggle on a toolbar. Anyway, keep up great work
👍 In the older versions the Splitsie mantra "Never press P" was a very good advice. When you routinely used P to park I had bad expectations. Will the P cause problems or will the toggle "Use for parking" on connectors save the day? Sadly - problems was caused. lol
One issue is that your drones are under powered. a single small battery can't power a single one of those engines so your just about maxing power just going up without heading in a direction. possibly adding a battery and getting rid of one of the downward facing thrusters may make your drones a little more survivable by making them faster and more responsive.
Think you hit peak space engineering as your backpack yeeted back to your base, casually respawn, build another drone and get back to it without missing a beat. x'D
I think you handled it pretty well. The only criticism I had was one you noted yourself, cheap attack drones are for swarm tactics or, as you did in the end, sneaky low-risk manual control. I haven't played Space Engineers in a long time and when I do I usually just mine and build, so I wasn't aware of the various inhibitor fields until I saw them in this video.
Instead of grinding down unwanted ore, just create a secondary tunnel offshooting where the ore is at. Make it at a 30 degree angel and deep enough to handle multiple boulders of unwanted ore. Then just empty your inventory at its edge and away rolls the unwanted stuff. You only have to dig the pit once and is much faster.
I always uncheck the box for connectors to be used for parking in all of my builds. Then they can't disconnect when you park. Also, how about Firefly for the new drones? Kinda multiple meanings there.
i realize this is very late, but i think it wouldve been cool to build some sort of long range railgun mounted on a chassis similar to an m1128. im not sure what that would entail, but i remember seeing a post about railgun drones being effective on space engineers
Batteries coming off of recharge on the "carrier" is because all the all the attack drones have the same grouping (same hot bar config) after building you have to set up Done A Battery group ... Done B Battery group...Done C Battery group ... while at base then you can use timer block on "carrier" to dispatch Drones at the same time. Braking/ turning on "ice" increase the friction on the perspective wheels Grinding the Remote block, Medbat, and Control seat(s) on the ""Outpost" will give you control of it
For the drones, I both suggest not usocking them before you enable AI, perhaps as some suggested, put a timer on each that you can trigger, that or make an encompassing group on the carrier that is all of them and have a hot bar that sets them in certain modes. Then all you need to do is set their batteries to auto, ai on and then undock them. Some may have some slight collisions, but that is better than sending them in one at a time. I also suggest changing out the gun for an auto cannon, they aren't as fast but they pack more of a punch and will be more effective against large calliber guns.
Thank you for the suggestions! I think you're right that giving them a go timer and sending them all off at once would be much more effective. I think an Mk 3 version of the drone is needed!
Funny thing is, the way those drones are set up, one COULD, if they needed to, just make them full time active so they were like their own little turrets on there before they went into total AI mode. Not sure what the scripting for that would be like [since I can't write code] but it would, in theory, be possible. Doubling as broadside turrets, AND aerial drones at the flick of a switch.
That Parallax base almost isn't worth claiming. It was a pain to find and hack every control block (lots of buried ones), and then I found that none of the pre-existing automation was connected up properly (like the med bay). I ended up grinding nearly everything down in order to connect things semi-properly.... and then when I was 99% done, a big Parallax ship showed and blasted everything to scrap :( /next time, I'll just scrap everything down to the bare ice
Adding 1 or 2 of the new (small) Flat Thrusters pointing down on the top of the rovers would give you more control. Turn on Thrust Override to about 50% power... you will see a huge difference in the way the rovers handle in the low gravity and ice. Just remember to turn them off when you get out/park the rover or they will drain your batteries.
Since your drone is really small and short, AND mounted on a ROTOR, you COULD just make the projector ROTATE and THAT would make it ALWAYS reach. ~( 'w')/
Still catching up on the series so ignore this if it was already said and tried later. Your biggest issue with the drones was starting and activating them manually.
