What's your favorite thing about Frozen? :>
First Disney movie to show that love at first sight is dumb and that sibling love is more true than that. Also, Anna is so much like my sister in personality and morning hair, which only potencializes love for sibling love.
Elsa with barely any doubt.
@@DrawpinionDump The sisters. They are my favorite characters of all time. I love them more than I could ever put to words. I’m very glad they exist.
Favorite thing about frozen probably had to be the memories of freshman years of high school when the film came out. So many let it go jokes during finals, also it was a perfect winter movie during the break.
I saw this movie and it's sequel in theaters with my own sister and we often related to each respective sister. I related to Elsa as the oldest sister cuz her anxiety is something I personally struggle with and my confidence wasn't high to begin with. My sister who is the youngest is the biggest extrovert and hated being trapped inside wanting to explore the world and she still does
It's funny how people hate on Frozen because it was overexposed. My generation totally forgot how we drove our parents mad with The Lion King. In another ten years, we'll all love it again.
Personally as someone suffering from agoraphobia, Elsa's story hit me hard and I love her. It's insane how often I hear the advice, "Stop being afraid." Just as stupid as, "Stop having ice powers."
I was born in the post-renaissance era, so I never got to live during the hype of the renaissance, so the revival era is so special to me--even though we're now in the "Era of Missed Opportunities" with Raya, SW, and "Wish."
And no one asked, but I never got into TLK because I was never good with animal-centric movies due to perspective ("Zootopia" being an exception because they were humanoid, plus the plot was great), and I always wished Disney had done it with humans. It'd be such a huge film for the black community.
@@OpticalSorcerer Wish was not a missed opportunity, and is miles better than Raya or whatever the SW remake will be. Wish is actually genuinely quite original and well made.
@@thareelhelloagain Without it being a big thing, I definitely disagree.
@@OpticalSorcerer So what opportunity did it miss? I'm just confused. Wish is basically nothing like either Raya or the SW remake. Nobody is making anything a big thing, but you made a claim, and I think it's a really unjustified one, and so I'm just wondering if you can actually justify that assertion or comparison at all.
@@thareelhelloagain I was simply saying that those past films have been lackluster. It's not that they have something in common other than that; just that they all came out around the same time, with "Encanto" being the only success between them.
In short (needless to say, this is my opinion): Raya's story failed to translate the message well, "Strange World" was generic in terms of story and ideas, and I found the writing and music for "Wish" to be terrible--and that's without taking acrapped concepts into account.
As an autistic person, I don't think Elsa's journey is supposed to be a metaphor for being gay not for being neurodivergent nor for anything specific., I've always seen it as a literal message about not masking, whatever the mask is hiding.
I was always in the camp of Elsa’s story being related to neurodivergence rather than queerness, mostly bc a) her powers are harder to hide with strong emotions, especially negative ones. I know this is true with ADHD and autism, but I can’t think of anyone that acts more gay or trans bc theyre upset and b) Elsa only finds freedom in solitude, which absolutely rings true for my neurodivergence, but not for my queerness, or many other peoples’ queerness. A big part of finding yourself as a queer person means interacting with other queer people, and while I’m sure that’s true for some ND ppl, I’ve heard it said (and felt) that we can only truly be our ND selves when alone
This speculation is just for fun tho, any interpretation is cool
That makes sense! Plus something a bit odd about reading it as a literal queer analogy is it raises a question of why it would be something dangerous to Anna.
as an autistic lesbian, yes ! like, Elsa is gay to me,, because I want her to be lol. But the movie shows us her isolating when experiencing big emotions, and being misunderstood as hostile when she's afraid ,, that definitely struck home in a nd direction
They really didnt have to make Hans evil. If they just stick w him kissing Anna but the kiss not working, things will still play out like how the movie does, only we dont have to throw a decent character under the bus 😅😅😅.
Yeah, they only did that because they wanted the movie to have a mustache-twirling villain for no good reason. You can't convince me otherwise.
I’m not the biggest fan of Frozen. I agree it’s a great movie but I feel like people confuse the word “overrated” with overexposed. And I wholeheartedly agree that it’s overexposed. It’s probably the most overexposed movie of all time! Which is why I’m happy they got dethroned by Inside Out 2!
And the co-director, Jennifer Lee, was promoted to chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2018. Maybe she is a hard worker beyond just the Frozen stuff, but I wouldn’t blame fans blaming how successful Frozen was for why she got the job. It’d be like promoting Stephen Hillenburg as the head of Nickelodeon Animation. Are you really gonna let the person who just so happened to create the studio’s most successful project be in charge of that entire studio? And how much of that franchise is too much? Should this even be a franchise at all beyond just shorts and specials?
And it especially sucks how Disney sabotaged the sequel by forcing the studio to finish the movie before its’ release date even if it was never gonna be THE phenomenon the first was. Inside Out 2 actually accomplished that and maybe even then some. Think about that.
To be fair, Jennifer also worked on the script for "Wreck-It-Ralph." And while I DESPISE how Disney did "Frozen 2," I understand the concept of taking the kids' opinions at the initial screenings into account, since they did want the film to appeal to families, not just young adults.
@OpticalSorcerer You shouldn’t let kids givr their opinions on films. Most kids have pretty low standards of quality because well theyre kids…they don’t understand stuff like character development or pacing or three act structures…all they focus on is the pretty princesses in pretty dresses or magical powers or a goofy cute sidekick. And thats fine cuz they’re kids. But adults generally have higher standards of quality.
@@Nopeasaurus Well, if kids are a bulk of your audience (this is a "PG" film, so it includes them), then obviously you're gonna wanna take some of what they say into account, ie making things easier to understand and making the comedic sidekick more present, even if older audiences may not like it.
I think Anna's character was handled better in the sequel, funnily enough. In the first movie, she's a naive, quirky, helpless romantic with not much else going for her, but in the sequel, we see a different side to her. We see how devoted she is to the people she loves, we see how caring she is to Elsa and how adamant she is about comforting her when Elsa's clearly struggling. But not just that, in the sequel, Anna appears to be dependent on the love and connection she shares with the people she cares about. Once Elsa and Olaf are gone, she collapses into herself. Throughout Frozen 2, it's implied that she doesn't really, truly, love herself the way she loves others. She doesn't have that intrinsic validation one needs to feel whole. She relies on external validation, the love that other people give to her, and once that's taken away she doesn't know what to do with herself. You need to remember that Anna is a child of neglect. She was locked up inside the castle for most of her upbringing, and her parents likely spent a lot of their time worrying about Elsa, leaving Anna with, realistically, only the castle staff to talk to. For years she's roaming these empty halls all by herself, with no one to talk to. Her naivety stems from her isolated childhood; her quirky, excitable traits are the result of craving that connection that was stripped away from her, and we see that side of her a lot more in the sequel than in the original. She's selfless to a fault, she relies on other people to feel that sense of wholeness that she's been lacking due to not having the chance to find herself when she was younger. Anna doesn't know who she is, and so she tries to be as loving and giving as she can to other people, but lacks the self-awareness required to realise that. So, in that sense, I reckon she's a lot deeper than Frozen 1 lets on.
I really liked this video. This is like the first time I’ve seen someone say they like Elsa and don’t like Ana, usually for me it’s the other way around
I genuinely feel like the movie would be stronger if they simply focused more on Anna and Elsa’s relationship than trying to be self-aware with the whole evil Prince Charming twist. Also is it me, or did a lot of characters feel like they were super condescending to Anna in particular. Imo, The way Kristoff talked with her in the sleigh felt more bully-like in retrospect.
@@papermr.magolorguy7957 Yeah, they focused so much on subversions that they forgot what really matters in a movie: story and characters.
@@artbytesia ngl, I feel that sisterly embrace would have hit a lot harder had Anna just left the kingdom without anyone in charge due to her love and care for her sister. And the third act could be them trying to convince the people that Elsa is not a monster. Maybe Elsa saves everyone from an eternal winter by sacrificing herself and True Love (Anna's love for her sister) is able to wake her up again?
I'm just spit balling here. What do you think?
@@papermr.magolorguy7957 That does sound better than what we got, to an extent!
Isn't it interesting how hundreds, if not thousands, of people are throwing around their own ideas for how the plot for Frozen could have gone, and EVERY ONE OF THEM sounds better than what we actually have?! That should say so much about how bad the writing for this film is!
Frozen tried to be clever with the whole “you can’t marry a man you met” but completely fumbled with that message. For one, Anna is a 18th century princess, arranged marriages were the norm. But given this film isn’t trying to historally accurate, I’ll give it a pass (although i still think its stupid). But what I wont forgive is the writers directly contradicting that message with Anna kissing a different guy she just met by the end of the film. You cant marry a guy you jut met but you can kiss him? Uh huh. Great message for kids everywhere.
And I know Kristoff saved her life but, like you said, he kind of just mocked and ridiculed her. Like he didnt even bother to understand why she wanted to marry Hans (she was a touch starved naive sheltered woman), he just went “lol you want to marry a guy you just met, you must be stupid” and then she ends up with him? Disney really went “hey girls, lower your standards and settle for the guy who mocks and belittles you and if he saves your life then you’re obligated to give him a smooch and be his girlfriend because he deserves a reward”.
@@Nopeasaurus he came off as a bully. Heck, he’s not that different from Hans in being condescending towards Anna in the beginning. Does nobody else talk about that? Or are they just giving the bare minimum phrase of “a prince who’s evil, what an original idea.”
This is also part of me was sad we might not see a more sympathetic Disney Prince character for a long long time. Closest we got was the concept art for Wish. Even if they are just friends, a Prince type character who’s actually kind-hearted and means well would be super refreshing.
I’m still shocked that Disney executives thought Anna was going to be the popular sister when Elsa was basically made in a lab for little girls to want to be her. Royalty with a beautiful dress and hair, awesome powers, dramatic angsty backstory, everything a young girl assigns herself while playing pretend.
funny enough, I kind of always related to both sisters, but mainly Anna. Yeah I know the Disney Quirk trope, but she's always been a joy for me to watch ever since I was little, with her always admiring her big sister from afar and being an optimist just like myself who also has a big sister and always wants to see a positive way out, which can lead for both of us to be VERY naive and impulsive, which isn't always our best moments. Plus, there were even times where Anna herself was as lonely as Elsa growing up, and that might've resulted into her "quirky" persona since she seems like the type of person who is an empath and can somewhat see how people are feeling and feels her emotions just as deeply as Elsa, if not more which is probably why she got swept up by Hans' whimsy and almost "magical prince charming" appearance as if she were Cinderella.
Plus, if we're gonna say that Elsa is a possible rainbow anxiety girlie, then I'd like to believe that our favorite little ginger girl that is Anna~ may have ADHD (or maybe I'm just projecting since I myself have ADHD, who knows? maybe I'm bluffing). Either way, I love and adore Anna for who she is, and my little self has always seen her as an almost perfect older cousin that she can somehow admire and learn from. The type of cousin that, while yes she's older, she's not the type to make you feel dumb and lecture you like how Elsa might.
Speaking of Elsa, I also LOVE her character arc! Like, yeah I know that we see her as a rainbow girl, but like Drawpinion said, I also can see that ADHD neurodivergent experience she possibly went through with hiding herself, especially with her she might've done a little bit of "masking" with her powers and even her emotions by how she puts up a front and literally wears her gloves to CONCEAL HERSELF AND NOT LET HER TRUE SELF SHOW, I SMELL THE ADHD/NEURODIVERGENCY DISNEY, YOU CAN'T HIDE THAT SHIT WITH AN ICE WALL!!!
Plus, I know that even in middle school, I almost had a phase where I was almost annoyed with Frozen songs like "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?" and "Let It Go", but~ . . . . . . . GOD DAMMIT, THE VOCALS ARE JUST REALLY NICE TO HEAR!!!!
oh, this thumbnail is a winner. I actually laughed ~
I don't think it's fair to say that Hans being a twist villain was completely unhinted at. Even if he never explicitly states or expresses his true motives until the reveal, the forced, contrived, tongue-in-cheek tone of his initial music number with Anna and the multiple characters that lampshade their decision to get engaged immediately set off more than enough red flags that I feel like the average viewer should be able to pick up on during their first watch.
I have only watched Frozen once (I've no idea how I managed to do that, since it was once my niece's favourite movie), and every now and then I see it on my dvd collection and think, "hey, I've only saw this once, should I watch it again?"... but then I remember the exact reason why this is - namely: the trolls - and go like, "nope!".
Seriously, I hate those trolls! People may say that I shouldn't let one moment destroy the whole movie for me, and normally I would agree, but in this case? It absolutely does.
I agree with you, I absolutely hate the trolls. They really ruined my enjoyment of this film
@@100lovenana Pretty much every character in this film is an idiot.
My biggest reason why I don't _care_ for frozen (more than don't _like_ it which would be stronger words than I feel), is that a lot of the supporting cast is just... meh. Elsa is great, Anna is great, but Hans's design has no charisma, Olaf is little more than a joke machine, the trolls are god awful, and reindeer guy, uh... insert negative opinion of him, I don't even know, he's so boys-band-non-threatening.
I remember when Frozen came out, I was obsessed with it. Whenever there was a chance to watch a movie, i would always pick Frozen. When let it go played on the radio, i would sit there until the song was over then leave. Guess you could say I had that Frozen Fever 😂 Also my favorite character was and still is Olaf. He's fun and silly but still delivers on heartfelt moments. Even one year for Halloween, I didn't want to be Anna or Elsa, I wanted to be Olaf. It's still crazy to me how it's almost been 12 years since it came out. When it came out i was 10 and now I'm 21 and I still find Frozen stuff everywhere. Even then it still holds a warm place in my heart^^
i hated Frozen as a teen because it was overexposed. then i actually watched the movie and i really like it! i even liked the sequel
edit: the intro song woth the ice cutting cannot be mentioned without me immediately feeling the need to watch the movie just for that scene alone
I kinda disagree with Anna not having any flaws. It’s clear to me she’s overly codependent and pretty selfish at times. I personally didn’t enjoy her because I’ve had to deal with such people irl, and it really wasn’t fun. She gained more respect from me in the sequel, but even there I feel she was barely developed and that her flaws were barely acknowledged by any of the characters in story.
This has nothing to do with the video itself but I've always found your voice incredibly soothing. And the way you say 'I'd like to talk about..." at the start of each video makes me shiver a bit
It‘s literally ASMR content I love it.
Great video, love all these different versions of understanding the movie, as a fellow kid that cried a lot haha
While it’s not my favorite movie, that movie will remain in my heart for being one that me and my friend watched before she passed away :)
I was 13 when frozen came out and I remember I loved it so much I used my birthday money to take a friend to go see it in theaters a second time. I still really enjoy rewatching it now but I can’t say I have much to defend about the movie other than “I enjoy my experience watching it”
Sometimes the memory of the experience can be much better than the film itself! I have plenty of movies I saw on my birthday that I enjoyed simply because... it was my birthday lol
I still say those damn Trolls are evil and were conspiring to make Hans the villain...
@@skullsquad900 Them being the true villains does explain why they recommended removing Anna's memories of Elsa having ice powers when she was obviously OK with them before, and why they sang a dumb song while Anna was FREEZING TO DEATH.
Frozen was one of the first movies I remember seeing in theaters and the musical recently ended up being the first musical i saw live, so I definitely have a lot of fondness for it because of that, but I think my most significant memory of it was being like 7 years old, at my kindergarten friend's house, who had recovered from a brain disease that had left her temporarily completely paralysed, rewatching this movie and when Hans appeared I said with all the hatred my little heart could muster "that guy deserves to die", and then my friend said, with atleast a thousand times more hatred in her heart, "that guy deserves to get sick and never be able to move or speak again"
I have personal connection with Frozen. My nieces were obsessed with it and often played as Anna and Elsa. It's like precious memories when they were still toddlers, now they're almost teens. Time flies.
My personal thoughts about Frozen are positive too. Sisterly love being the answer was refreshing, and still not enough stories focus on non romantic love. And Elsa is for gays, even if Disney afraid of dropping numbers in China.
To me the complexity of Anna comes from the lack of it. Let me explain: we have Elsa, who was forced to grow up quickly... And then Anna, who remainded a kid because she NEVER grew up. We have the two sides of a same coin, both related to toxic upbringing. And Anna was neglected, therefore is easily abused. In psyque, we have the opposites of attachment styles: anxious and avoidant (Anna was neglected because her parents were more focused on Elsa. Elsa, in the process, was emotionally neglected as well).
When i originally saw it as a teenager, i think i was too caught up in the logical fuckery of the movie to enjoy the deeper messages. Elsa was supposed to be evil originally and they changed it to make her good… but is she? Like… she wouldn’t’ve come back. Ppl wouldve died. Hans did technically save arendelle by bringing her in for execution. She also v intentionally made a monster that easily couldve killed anna. Didnt it chase them off a cliff?
Why did the townspeople just accept that she was good and hans was bad? They didn’t witness his plotting. He took care of them when BOTH their queen and princess disappeared into the mountains. For all any of them knew, his plan to kill elsa mightve worked. Me, personally, i’m not trusting someone who caused an eternal winter bc she felt big feelings. What happens if anna dies and she loses control again? I gotta die too?
Anyway, this was a beautiful video. Maybe i’d like it more if i watched it again
@@honestlythough7250 Yeah, the writing is just pathetic.
LOVED THE VIDEO! GOOD WORK!!!!
I will be honest and say that I was part of the Frozen hate discourse all those years ago. Part of the reason was that it was getting so much attention when other movies that I felt were more deserving weren't getting a fraction of that, like Rise of the Guardians (Not Disney but still) and The Princess and the Frog. I thankfully stopped hating it about 6 or so years ago. And looking back on the movie now, it's a great movie but it does have some issues, some of which you mentioned. Anna's personality feels too much like a Rapunzel knock-off but more dialed up and less organic (Even though she's not the worst case of the adorkable Disney heroines, which I have a video all about), the twist villain plot not being that well set-up (Even though it's a clever and relevant idea), Anna and Kristoff have no chemistry, Kristoff could've been cut, some comedy that ruins serious moments and feels shoehorned in (A problem that is plaguing Disney's movies, which again, I have a video all about), and the fact that I feel like it would've worked much better as a 2D animated movie. But it's still a great movie and I watched it several months back with my wife and it held up better than I thought. Elsa is a character I adore and I honestly relate a lot to her, the songs are fantastic (Apart from the Trolls song and maybe Olaf's song), the animation is beautiful even if it would've been better in traditional animation, while some jokes are forced a majority of them do work, the relationship between Anna and Elsa is definitely the heart of the film, and it's overall a great time.
I'm sorry for your videos not getting as much attention as they used to due to your hiatus. As a fellow RUclipsr that is struggling to make it, I do get how difficult the algorithm is. But I'm sure you're gonna get back to your glory soon because I actually subscribed to you while you were on your hiatus and your content is just too good not to regain that glory.
I can’t believe Frozen is 11 years old.
Hey, lovely to see you pop up on my feed again! Nice video as always, hope you're doing well
I think it's a good movie but the attempts at trying to be self aware aren't great and the last 10 minutes are ruined by the twist. The second film on the other hand tho is just awful. Boring as all hell
Not only are they not that great, but the movie keeps shoving down one's throat how "new" it is, even though it really isn't.
Agree. Frozen’s attempt to be meta critical and subversive was cinemasins level cringe. Its almost like its ashamed to be a disney movie. “You cant a marry a man you just met” is a line uttered by a queen in 18th century Norway. Prince charming character secretly being the villain is so stupid it hurts to watch. The fact that the trolls explicitly tell Anna “only AN ACT OF TRUE LOVE can thaw a frozen heart” and Anna somehow believes only a true love’s KISS can break the spell is just ridiculous. They didnt tell her it had to a be a kiss so why did she think that? Oh right because the movie was tryg so hard to hate on disney movies and girlish dreams of romance, that it didn’t even bother to add context.
And yeah the second film is horrendously written, held only by the animation and songs (into the unknown and whatever song olaf sang was hot garbage though). Seriously, I dont even consider it canon because of how far off it verges from everything the first film was about.
@@Nopeasaurus You know what really gets me? One of the co-directors of this very movie, Chris Buck, had just before this co-directed a smart, well-written movie that actually IS new in several ways: Surf's Up! And unlike Frozen, that movie knew how to go about being new and didn't constantly shove the new stuff in your face all the dang time, like "Oh, look at me, I'm the first animated feature film to be a mockumentary!" No! It just did what it wanted to do and let the viewers figure things out themselves!
Chris, why didn't you take notes from your OWN STINKING MOVIE for THIS one?!?
The lyrics 'don't know if I'm elated or gassy, but I'm somewhere in that zone' will stand out to me as some of Disney's WORST songwriting. Period. No exaggeration. Fuck I hate those lines so much.
You're right and you should say it
Yeah, people give Wish a lot of flack for questionable songwriting, when this movie has songs with writing just as bad, if not worse.
I love this film, and while I have issues with it (ie villain Hans), I feel like it's underrated in two respects: it's the last Disney animated film based on a fairy tale, and the franchise is the only Disney (not Pixar) thing the Anderson-Lopez team has been involved in, which is a WASTE. I wanted Disney to use them for more outside the franchise, especially when "Gigantic" got cancelled.
That's a frustration I know too well. Way too often a movie makes it huge and all I can say is "It's nice"
It's like being at a party where the whole world is having the time of their lives and you're just in a corner taping your foot at the rithm
Frozen might've been the most profitable Disney animation movie, but it isn't a perfect movie. It's always bothered me how Elsa's problem isn't really resolved, mainly how unrealistic it is that at the end of the film literally everyone in the kingdom accepts her and stops fearing her THAT quickly. That's not what would happen in real life. If the writing hadn't forced the happily ever after, then multiple people within the kingdom would still hate Elsa for causing a supernatural winter, even if she thawed it afterwards.
And let's go beyond that. It was well established in the film that the people of that world fear magic just like how people in previous centuries were supersticious of witches and "dark arts". Elsa's parents feared specifically that people would try to kill her, (not much so that Elsa would hurt others, that was her own personal fear). The duke even accuses sorcery when Elsa's powers are revealed, and I have a feeling he originaly was going to say "witchcraft" but the executives probably forced the change to make it more "kid-friendly". You'd think that after news break out about how a young queen from a certain small kingdom has magical powers, there would be some sort of panic outside of Arendelle. Aren't there witchunters and Witch Trials in that world? I honestly think they should've made the sequel about Elsa trying to escape from witchunters, maybe even making it a journey where she must prove to people from other regions that magic can be a good thing.
On the one hand, yes, how it would play out in real life would look like that. There WOULD be a lot of people who felt that way even after Elsa lifts the winter. And if Frozen had received a series maybe they could have touched on how people are still afraid of Elsa. But this is a fairy-tale movie and it needs to wrap up *somehow*. The story is focused on repairing Elsa and Anna’s relationship, and pushing Elsa towards being less afraid of herself. How well this is achieved is completely up for debate.
@@foxpokemonforever4775 This just proves to me that a series is a better format for telling stories. A 1 hour and a half film can only show so much, especially when a story has so many aspects going on. I'm shocked Disney didn't jump the band wagon with Frozen's popularity and create a TV series out of it, just like they did with Tangled. In the Tangled series they even go deeper into the origin of Rapunzel's powers, why couldn't they do the same with Elsa? Especially when her powers have caused more of an effect on their wielder and the world around her.
Besides, I always wondered why they didn't make the sequel film about witch hunters trying to get to Elsa. It would've given validation to her parents' fears (even if they still handled it badly) while also expanding the worldbuilding. All while still keeping the part about Elsa discovering the origin of her powers. In fact, it would've been much more connected to the rest of the story, by proving to those scared of her that her powers came for a good action and they are not meant for evil.
@@100lovenana Yeah, the writing is more forced than a jigsaw puzzle piece that doesn't fit another jigsaw puzzle.
Anna has flaws. She desperate and jumps into the first relationship she can see. She has no social cues and shes implusive and naïve. She has no tact so in alot of cases she ends up making things worse. I love anna as a character its just the fact that the quirky girl has become so mainstream that you can't actually see her for her character only her character type.
Am i the only one who won't forgive Elsa after all she did? She send a giant monster after her sister, refuses Anna's help, doesn't want to save her kingdom, she froze Anna's heart and NEVER appologise for that. Elsa also did horrible things in the second movie like leaving Anna on a river full fo giants... they can easily crush her and kill her. I'm sure it won't put her life in danger 😑The queen could told her to return with the Northuldians but forgot apparently!
She never saw her mistakes, never appologise for them and doesn't care about her sister's safety. I am supposed to like her? Nope, can't happen 😅The queen is not as horrible as Gabriel from Miraluculous ladybug but still a horrible person!
I remember back then when it was coming out I wanted to hate this movie so bad. The trailers didn't catch my interest and neither did the characters...but when we went to watch it in theaters when it dropped, I remember very vividly the feeling of adoration I gained. For the beauty of storytelling, animation and cinema.
I have never loved an experience of going to the movies as much as that day, and I couldn't be more thankful that me and my family gave it a chance 💖
I still fully believe that the "underwhelming twist villain" trope in Disney movies actually started because of Wreck-It Ralph. That was the big Disney movie right before Frozen, and it actually had an AMAZING twist villain, because he was established at the start of the movie, and then he kept acting like an asshole to Ralph after he meets him, with enough separation between his backstory and his introduction to keep audiences from putting the pieces together that he is actually the villain, even though they had all of the pieces of the puzzle long before the twist is revealed.
Wreck it Ralph ran so Frozen could crawl
@@Hey-Its-Dingo You know what's odd? Both movies were written by the same person!
Okay I loved this video until you started talking about Anna not having any real flaws. Her flaws
wasn't being quirky, it was being overly trusting and nieve, no matter how evil Hans was she married him way too quickly, it was supposed to be commentary on how past princesses married men they just met. This applys to here whole character btw not just her marrying hans. Think about the confrontation scene between her and Elsa, she practically ignored all of Elsas problems because "if we just do this together, everything will be solved!!" And I get there was truth to that but it was obviously the wrong approach when trying to get through to Elsa. I will admit that Anna is a but boring but I think that's kinda the point if her character, a lot of it is a parody of clasic disney princesses to a certain extent. She was one of the first quirky characters for Disney and I get that they ended up overdoing it later on but it worked for Anna, she had narrative and backstory reasons to act that way.
Thank you for doing this video Drawpinion!! For the longest time since I first saw this movie I loved Elsa and and she was my favorite character but my sister well she didn't like this movie for a very long time....but then I begged her to rewatch it with me and well after a couple begging she said yes and well she still doesn't like the movie too much but she likes Anna and Krisoff and Sven...and Olaf but still doesn't like Elsa all that much....😅 Also I always saw myself as Elsa and my sister as Anna despite the fact I'm the younger sibling and she is the older one....well that's it really I'm glad to see you back again I did miss your videos I like them they are very chill and peaceful.....ok well bye!!

for the first time in forever was a banger tho
Gotta say, watching those clips it’s hitting me, A) how gorgeous this movie is and, B) how much I am not a fan of the facial structure of these girls.
writes angry 11 year old comment as a 17 y/o FROZNE IS THE BEST!!!! (i have symptoms of autism)
Great video. I think Frozen is a great film. I never really got behind the whole "quirky girl=bad" trend. Maybe if they were annoying chatterboxes that wouldn't freaking shut up or were loud, obnoxious, and irresponsible. I think Disney has had a really good track record making their leading ladies in their films well rounded, bubbly, optimistic, and funny characters. I think Anna is a very likable and relatable character, especially to people who drifted apart from their siblings or best friends when they used to be really close once upon a time.
I also think Hans being a surprise villain works really well. His reveal was as much a shock to the audience as it was to Anna because he was posed as her Prince Charming and proposed to her less than a day after they met. His true intentions were hinted at subtly with him saying "that's what I was going to say" during Love Is An Open Door (sure pal, sure), and that he had 12 older brothers making it very unlikely for him to be king. If it had been hinted at more clearly with a devilish smile, that would distract from the main story, which is about Anna and Elsa's relationship.
@@benjaminfenty8745 OK, good for you.
I disagree with what you said about Hans at the very end; a bigger hint would have been proper foreshadowing, and I don't see how it would distract from Anna and Elsa's relationship.
@artbytesia A bigger hint would've made the reveal lackluster and not surprising. While the audience is invested in Anna and Elsa's relationship, they shouldn't suspect Hans is the villain until the third act. It distracts from the main conflict as he puts on a less than convincing act in front of the citizens of Arendell. He needed appear as a genuinely good person so that the reveal of his true colors could be more effective. That's how proper screenwriting works: you don't let the audience in on the surprise too early
@@benjaminfenty8745 Well, they could've done what Wreck-It Ralph did and have several hints that are a mix between subtle and clear. But no.
And no, a few lyrics in a song do not count that much. Those were way too subtle, and throughout the movie, he acts WAY too nice for the twist to be believable. It feels like two different ideas mashed into the same movie, which is NOT proper screenwriting.
@@artbytesia did you ever consider Hans is a very convincing actor? Because those types of people exist irl. They come off as so nice and considerate that when their true colors are revealed, it's all the more painful.
@benjaminfenty8745 Yes. The problem is, it's TOO convincing.
Nobody--and I mean NOBODY--can act THAT well if they actually have ulterior motives. *NOBODY.* At least, not in real life, they can't.
Definitely infectious when it came out with it’s songs and characters and story, and I was 12 back then. Now, as an adult years later, it has its moments but now it’s pretty annoying and has some questionable writing in some areas.
Even after all these years, I still love Frozen very much! While I agree with your critique that making Anna the main character instead of the more complex Elsa was a bad move, I was still grateful that Elsa was the first Disney character that showed her inner struggles to such a relatable degree. Honestly surprised we didn't get more protagonists like her, and instead more quirky ones. I mean, Disney must know that people mostly loved the movie because of Elsa, right? Without her, it still would've been a solid Disney movie, but for me, she was the one that made it stand out among many others.
Thankful to see some love for the movie, despite the flaws it has.
new drawniondump yay!!!!
i don't really know how i feel about this intepretation tbh, i'm not gay but i am autistic and i dunno, i don't really like elsa's ice powers being used as metaphor for that sort of difference, mostly cause of the scene where elsa hurts anna on accident as a child, it's not her lashing out like later one in the movie, it's just her hurting someone by accident, and i know people can accidentally say things to hurt others but given the person anna is and was, metahporically... i don't think that would happen.
You had me until you said Anna doens't have flaws. Sure, she's on of the early "quirky" Disney characters but I'd argue she's not as bad as some recent examples of the trope. I think she works similarly (if not to the same effect) as Rapunzel due to growing up isolated from the world (because Elsa and Anna's parents are some of the worst parents in fiction imho), with nothing but her imagination and stories to fill in the gaps. Of course Anna would have a naive look on love and relationships and that's why (as bad as it was executed and I hate the Hans twist villain reveal so much) a manipulator like Hans took advantage of that for his own gain. Anna was so desperate for companionship and bonds of any kind that she got swooped by the first nice person in the room, especially when Elsa continued to shut her out.
I suppose for me, it's this:
While I don't like the movie or its characters (with the exception of Olaf), and prefer other films about sisterhood- I can appreciate what it means for so many people and the value they can find within it.
Like at the end of the day, even if a piece of media didn't work for you, it does mean something for someone else, and do I keep that in mind when I talk about movies, or anything in general, that I'm not a fan of.
I do enjoy its broadway iteration over any of the films, though 😅.
I remember when I first saw this movie in theater, I was extremely disappointed. I was hoping that its story was on part with Tangled. I didn't want to watch its sequel, because I didn't like the 1st.
The fact that Jennifer Lee was promoted despite her mediocre successful movie really speaks volume of the quality of the movies from her era (Especially Wish). I'm so glad she was fired.
Unpopular opinion: i love frozen 2 way more than the 1 film
NEW DRAWPINION DUMP DROP LET'S GOOOOO!
Mumin lady talks about non-Mumin stuff?
Unexpected, but I like it! ❤
Wahh i like your analysis on Olaf.....
Omg frozen 2 is amazing tho 🥲 my ultimate crying in the car soundtrack
Beautiful video, I was nodding all along! I didn't like Frozen and was, huh, a hater I guess, but I agree with everything you say. Maybe not about Olaf, but it can be explained because of the Spanish dub I guess? Thank you for this video!
I've only seen the Brazilian dub (aside from the original) and I also enjoyed it!
I feel like a lot of people hate Elsa purely because she isn’t evil and then love Tiana and Ariel even though in the original books they were selfish jerks. Especially Tiana. Don’t get me wrong, I like them both a lot but like it feels a bit unfair that Elsa is the only one to get hate for it
I want to add another layer or pov to see frozen with! aka, that of a kingdom hearts fan! when frozen released, everyone pretty much immeditately clocked elsa as being hella gay and her story and her dynamic with anna being super close to what is the core of the kh series, aka sora, the protagonist, and riku (who is hella gay for him in many similar elsa screams gay vibes in general, mainly the hiding away and leaving to protect anna). when kh3 then came out, we were all very much pleasantly surprised to see how directly and outloud the game directly puts the comparisons on the forefront of the story, and in the meantime even shaved off all the obstrusives weakeness the original frozen plot has in the movie, pretty much leaving only the elsa and anna stuff for the most part, which is great! the director of the series was then revealed to have decided immeidately to use frozen for kh3, back to a moment where frozen hadnt even come out and so he didnt know of the success it would have, so just for the story and character parallels, which is both really funny and juicy! and now, luca came out which is somehow even gayer and more 1 to 1 to kh's main core dynamic, so i am quite excited to see how it will be most likely be added in the future and go even harder on the gayness than elsa was allowed to!
I liked it when it came out since I was like 10 and still in the target audience, but it was never my favorite anything (princesses, songs, story). It is good, and that's about it.
Aaaaah, I’m so glad to see a new video from you! I love your stuff. Somehow, I never got on the Frozen hate train. I agree it’s not the best movie ever and it’s certainly everywhere, but it’s one of my favorite modern Disney movies. And I worry that with the second Frozen not being so good, they’re going to take a pretty decent story and turn it into soulless crap.
This vid was solid... like ICE
Elsa having powers (being other) caused her anxiety and social isolation, as well as hurting her sister by being too open with it... If Elsa was an X-man then it could be swept away more but I don't mind people connecting with her over something personal. I also don't know what to think about their true love subversion, sure sisterly love is just as powerful as a one day relationship people think of with Disney romances, but it should be kept even further away from the gay identity. Elsa's still a great character for all kinds of girls and liberation, I don't mind people liking her for that and it's still a high point even when the rest of the movie can feel very mid.
I’m Elsa’s biggest fan!!!
OMG YES MORE OF U!!!!!!!!!!!
Thumbnail is great
my final opinion is :
it's a good movie
it is not a good movie after re-watching it 10 times in a row time with your little cousin and then having to not cringe when every single birthday party is elsa themed for the next five years.
overall, i blame the marketing team. they created crack for kids in the form of a movie and then forced us to deal with it for years to come
I'm going to say it. This movie is NOT overrated! It's UNDERrated! True, maybe it WAS overrated, but the hype for this movie completely died down all the way back in 2015! Ever since then, barely anyone's ever talked about it! And even when they do, they only ever talk about what this movie does WRONG instead of what it does RIGHT! And before you say "Oh well that's because everything good that could be said about this movie has already been said multiple times." Well you know what? Nowadays that's exactly what I can say about everything BAD that people have said about this movie! If anything, I'd argue that this movie's complaints have arguably been stated more times than this movie's strengths! Oh, but this movie's still bad because everyone just can't learn to put the past behind them. People are clearly ignorant to the fact that if nearly EVERYONE is calling a movie overrated, then it becomes UNDERrated.
Edit: Oh, and P.S. Most people who hate Elsa only hate her because they're mindless sheep who treat Schaffrillas Productions' every word like it's the Bible.
Hope you do a video in Portuguese!
Its fine as it is, but people are acting like its the best thing they ever seen that trumps all the other disney movies. I still remember all the hardcore fans claiming shit like “first disney movie to do this and that” claiming it was original, forgetting the fact that all disney movies already did half of the stuff Frozen has done, its really not uniqe aside from having two princesses, though lets be real, they probably added Elsa in the lineup because she’s popular.
I really think its not a great movie and i’m glad more people are realizing how below average it is. Setting the standards for all the future Disney (not Pixar!) film to be lower than their predecessors
@Freezient Yeah, somehow, some way, people were brainwashed into thinking it's a "masterpiece" and "original."
@@artbytesia That’s the Disney brainrot for you..
@@Freezient *Sigh* Of course.
@@Freezient Remember in The Return of Harmony how Rarity was brainwashed into seeing a huge rock as a giant diamond? Frozen is the rock, Rarity is the fans who worship the ground on which it stands, and the diamond disguise is Frozen appearing to be the masterpiece it CLAIMS it is.
Bro just needs to talk abt severance
ONCE UPON A TIME MENTION!
Verdade. Concordo, linda! Nunca errou.
Like frozen feels boring they took the fairy tale of the Snow Queen and then made it boring like we look at the concept art for the movie back when Elsa was a villain there was more artistic inspiration when it came to the movie back when like Elsa was a villain / maybe a villain who gets redeemed Elsa should have seen a villain that eventually got redeemed because the concept art and early concept for the movie was better than anything they had in the movie like in the early cause of Frozen Anna actually had a motivation she wanted people to depend on her she wanted people to take her seriously but then movie Her motivation is just gone and also I will forever cry knowing how to remove that very very very very very very very cute dressing where Anna tries on some of Elsa's dresses and it's like very cute and like if they wanted to go for the sisterly love thing they should have kept that seen because it was just so cute and I'm forever crying when they removed it and I know why they removed it cuz it wouldn't make sense for Elsa and Anna to have a scene like that but I wish they did cuz it was cute and I thought there was a lot of interesting things I could have done with Elsa being a villain who then gets redeemed that they just didn't do because in this movie she's not a Villain at all I honestly I wish she was a villain cuz back when she was a villain she had a lot more personality than now where she just kind of boring
@@a.t.trujillo9970 I wouldn't say they made it "boring," just an incoherent, non-cohesive, poorly-written mess.

I don't really have anything to say, but Algorithm requires me to post.
Not really, it's mostly just the one song
The plot is dogshit and the meta-commentary is played out.
That's why Frozen sucks.
The plot is pretty bad, all right.
Hi 😊
No, It was never good
Hi (first)
Hi! (Second)
I think frozen is overrated
😑 how come that side never tries to go off canonical information from the Creator if a character swings that way or not
why not leave one comment that's five (well, three maybe. two even? your commentary is redundant) times longer, rather than spamming 5 comments. and what's with the emojis. who are you.
(...also, "side?" one should not treat people interpreting a character as gay as an enemy faction. and those sorts DO take information from the Creator (unless you mean god?) into account, arguably TOO much, somebody briefly involved in storyboarding a show can completely define a characters sexuality from a fandom perspective with a tweet or two. But for a goddamn disney movie in the 2010s expecting "the creator" to confirm the character to be gay was an exercise in fututility. As evidenced by it never happening. A death of the author AND 'coding' both mean that reading identities not directly stated into characters has worth from an audience perspective. whether members of said audience insist its "canon" is another matter. are you even human? i might be wasting my time.)
😔 no matter the OC character from any franchise never make assumptions about their sexuality wait for canonical data
😒 because of this thought process this is exactly why Inside Out 2 refused that toxic agenda
😑 If Frozen or Frozen 2 went with the alphabet Community agenda inside out to work became a flop just like all the rest
😑 a ♀️ isn't necessarily lesbo/bi just because she doesn't wanna be with a ♂️ same for the reverse gender
It's Disney, even if they ment she's gay, they'll never showed it cause of international homophobia and "what about kids" reasons. Also in sequel they didn't gave Elsa partner, it's like very sus. Also there's whole history of queer readings starting with Haze code, check Alex Avila "Are they gay?" series
I know these five comments are probably not exactly in the _best_ faith, but frankly I always saw Elsa as just not being attracted to anyone. Just flat-out. Boy, girl, anything else, doesn't matter. She just doesn't seem like the kind of person to want to be with anyone in any kind of romantic way, and I think that's pretty nifty.
@@lalas181 They are, most definitely, not here in good faith. One glance at their account shows that they are deep into the far right pipeline. But hey, at least their comments help the video in the algorithm.
