Hi Gary Just wanted to say how deeply moved I am by your song. It’s such a beautiful piece that really resonates on a personal level. I love the way you address fear, and how it can hold us back. It is so powerful and thought-provoking. It’s a good reminder that we shouldn’t let fear dictate our lives, even though it’s so easy to fall into sometimes🫣 Thank you❤
So many good lines in this song that this old guy can relate to. With a beautiful melody to carry it home. I look forward to the full album. You doing the piano as well? Best wishes for 2025.
@@tomkat69pc so you were kidding about this song sounding a lot like Mary Jane’s last dance? What you actually meant was WFTS? Anyway, either way, yeah.
@@JosephRMitch I wasn't kidding - I just read some comments here. But I see: Jayhawks were 92, Petty 93. Don't really want to discuss which came first, the egg or the hen. But the first notes from "Getting Older" sound far more similar to MJ than WFTS .. .
I’d love to hear another Ready for the Flood album…. Another Gary and Mark. Not Mark with the Jayhawks. Just Gary and Mark, one more time…. At least once more.
@@dougedart Tom’s wrote many great albums. He even let Sam Smith slide. I don’t think Tom needed to copy Gary. lol. Stuff seeps into the mind sure. But if you knew who Tom was … But in 2025 to put out something that sound like a Petty song When Tom has a massive following compared to the Jayhawks. Just seems odd. And I do like the Jays going back to Blue etc.
Lol funny you should mention that. Now compare Petty's Mary Janes Last Dance (came out in 1993) and the Jayhawks Waiing For the Sun (came out in 92) Lots of discussion about this online. ✌️
@ One gotta be tone deaf to call that a ripoff. Tom Petty didn’t steal from anyone, that’s why he was in a band with Bob Dylan and a Beatle. Similarities in pop music does happen due to certain chord progression, riffs and such, it has happened to a lot of well known musicians, much bigger than the Jayhawks. Plus, Tom Petty is no longer among us, have some freakin respect !
Beautiful. Feels like a song that could have come from Hollywood Town Hall. The bass and harmonica reminds me of Waiting For The Sun.

Love the stripped down vibe of this. Classic Louris.
I love the Lo-Fi. Fantastic!
sweet song :)) 🌻🍃🤍🍃🌻 big Love
Great and beautiful song ! Thanks Gary ! Waiting for the album🎸
Good one, Gary. Looking forward to the new album. How about 2 or 3 gigs in Scotland, sometime? 👍🏴🎸🇺🇸
music that goes H A R D
Love it!
Great tune. Love to see Gary playing Godins, too.
Me too, but I Don't think we will ever see him play any live, I think Godin asked him to play them in the video, my opinion.
I am with Godin Guitars. We did not ask, nor pay him to play anything. We are huge fans of his and are thrilled to see our guitars in the video! :)
Oh thank you, I'm happy for you then , since you are also a fan, all the best ! :)
Beginning sounds like "Waiting For The Sun" to me. Maybe a nod, maybe a coincidence. Dunno.
My first thought.
The beginning is also similar to Tom Petty’s Last Dance With Mary Jane. Seems like a nod
This is so good.

Isn’t something how there are musicians that can write songs that we can relate without absolutely pandering.
@
Well said. I see a whole lotta pandering and fakery out there in the music space, and very little truly real, sincere music like Gary’s.
Feeln it...dreams ran in 2nd place...
Looking forward to the new album! ✌️
It would be great if the Jayhawks bring out an ne w album.
Maybe give him a minute to promote this one first?
Waiting for the Sun + You Look So Young.
It appears life in Onterrible has been somewhat productive.
I was waiting for the Sun…….
Today, it’s my Birthday, i’m getting older..
maybe the similarities to "last dance with mj" are done on purpose - like painters give references ..
.
Ever heard the song Waiting For The Sun?
@@JosephRMitch you mean the first song on "Hollywood Town Hall"? yep ..

The odds of the Vikings winning a Super Bowl are higher than that ever happening.
Sounds like a Tom petty song last dance Mary Jane
because it is exactly the same chorus!
@ sorry Gary. But you’ve written better songs
And Tom Petty’s song sounded like The Jayhawks’s Waiting For The Sun which came out a year before Petty’s song.
@@dougedart Came here to say that.. thanks.. no shade to Petty, but yah... Hollywood Town Hall was already out!

Good song. But yeah, Tom Petty for sure.
Opening riff sounds a lot like TP’s ‘’Last Dance with Mary Jane’’ ! Not a direct ripoff but that happens in pop music quite a bit I suppose.
had the exact same impression, even the harmonica midsong.

agree..and it's not a bad thing..
Tom Petty ripped off the part from Waiting for the Sun. Tom also stole lyrics from the Replacements
