Question from a new guy wanting to get into leather works, what kind of leather do you recommend for wallets? I really like the type that was used in this video! I notice there are all different kinds of leather with many different thicknesses, grains, etc, which can be confusing sometimes when trying to decide what would be the right material to use.
Hard to go wrong with 2-3 ounce full grain (or top grain if budget is a major concern) veg tan, natural or dyed. You could get by with 3-4 ounce leather for a simpler design without much overlap, or if a fat bulky wallet is not a problem. any heavier and your getting into belt/strap territory.
Once you get a bit more experienced with different leather you can experiment with other finishes and tannage type. Just avoid oil tanned leather (AKA the leather they cover furniture with and make jackets out of) far too floppy and fabric like to get decent results in something like a wallet, though it does have its uses. and if it says "bonded" leather, it means the cut away underside fiber from full grain leather glued to a sheet of fabric. basically think of it like chipboard/particle board, but the leather version. it has its uses, just not small leather goods.
One thing thats fun to do is to go to local thrift stores and try to find cheap leather goods with damage, or low enough price that you can justify destroying it for materials. Ladies donate old purses and bags all the time that can be repurposed into wallets,

I’ve seen card holders put into these on both sides. It is the preference of the wallets owner.

What weight/thickness of leather would be best for something small like a wallet?
Very plain, very elegant, any gentlemen would give their eye tooth to be able to extract this wallet from their coat pocket or their jean hip pocket. Styled to suit all. Very nice.

I'm very interesting the way he was doing. He used genuine leather all and was stitching neat and tidy.
“Genuine leather” is one of the worst leathers there is. I’m pretty sure he was using top grain.

Olá, tô passando pra dizer que seu trabalho é muito bom, só nos falta as medidas e dizer o que vc usa , queremos aprender mas sem informações é impossível, por exemplo, que vc passa nas beiradas do couro, que couro vc usa, lixa qual? Ajuda aí.
Trabalho com madeira e posso dizer que sobre as lixas vai do feeling que tem para o acabamento que quer. Veja que ele usa lixas simples dessas que podem ser de base de papel ou mesmo de tecido. Já o martelinho é importante antes de lixar para achatar o couro parecendo que, depois de lixado fica parecendo uma só peça. A água humedece o couro apos o lixamento para tirar imperfeições e aquela ferramente de madeira com estrias de diversas medidas comprime o material para deixar arredondado.

why you didn't stetch the the pockets from the bottom, i just confused because you put the marked the stetch lines under each one? plus i see other makers, make stetches, ? is a glue enough?
They are stitched, just not shown in the video while he does it but you see the stitches at 10:30 and again later when he turns it around.
