I was born in 1950. But love the big band sound and this style music. When I was little the family would go for Saturday or Sunday drives. Usually not getting home till late at night. The other 4 kids and my mom would be fast asleep. Dad would tune in a radio station playing this great music and we would just drive and listen. Sometimes he would tell me of the happy memories these tunes would bring back to him, and now to me. Just he and I. The rest of the world just spinning by. Great memories. I sorely wish we could do it all again. I dearly miss him and his always good council, and rye humor.

I cry listening to Gershwin not only because he was a genius and the music itself is extraordinarily romantic, but also because my beloved Daddy was a huge fan and got me started on classical music and jazz through Gershwin, and in particular Rhapsody in Blue. Dad played clarinet as a child and teen, moved to do so by the opening notes. Dad passed away in 1996 and I am sure to listen to this and all the Gershwin there is both for enjoyment and in remembrance of George M. Robinette, Jr., 1944-1996. I miss you.

This music helps me forget, deal, survive, the wars, all I have been through. On a mental level, reading, seeing the extreme wrath, evils done in WWI, WWII, The Civil War, Korean War, Afghanistan, Vietnam... and future wars. I didn't serve in all these wars during my active duty of course, but what I have been through this music is like an escape, a way of dealing with loss of life. Blessings George Gershwin, I understand.

There's no mistaking the opening clarinet solo. It makes your ears perk up and puts a huge smile on your face. Then there's Walking The Dog and An American In Paris and so many more. There's just such a kinetic joy to it all. I wonder what else he would have created had he not died so young? Of course the same could be said of Mozart too.

This is a wonderful recording to have that sets the pace of this
remarkable piece. The 1924 written manuscripts have been organized and
scored in a new critical edition by Dr. Ryan Banagale, through the
University of Michigan Gershwin Initiative. The first recording of this
edition has been released on August 27, 2021. It brings together the
Adrian Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Bruce Kiesling and yours truly. I
have studied the many recordings, the printed scores, the Alicia Zizzo
'Annotated Rhapsody in Blue' for solo piano, and Dr. Banagale's new
edition. Hope readers will find the new recording enjoyable!

Gershwin captures so much by his playing. The fast tempo seems to forewarn the listener of his excruciatingly short life.
Perhaps the greatest American composer knew he had to get it out there- - to the public in a hurry.

Another composition was Cuban Overthure because in a visit to Havana in the 1930's decade he was impressed
with a cuban rithm that heard and composed this overture in which we can iudentified variations of the3 cuban "son"
he listened to. As cuban I love thuis overture and I love very much the Piano Concerto in F and some others son as
":Someone to watch over me": in the voice of Zola Taylor ( RIP ) and, of course, his great opera : Porgy and Bess

Many years ago I heard an interview with Ira Gershwin and he said that the Labec sisters ( not sure if I spelled it right but one of them used to be married to John McLaughlin of the mahavishnu orchestra ) when they played Rhapsody In Blue sounded most like his brother more than any other artist

The Labeque sisters, Katia and Marielle, play Gershwin's original two-piano versions with a real down-and-dirty percussive attack, just the way GG did when he recorded his own works. Many concert pianists today tend to great Gershwin as if he was Chopin and miss the spectacular contrast between the jazz and lyrical romantic elements of his music. Too much Rhapsody and not enough Blues.

Nós tivemos um Cole Porter: Ary Barroso. Tivemos também Villa Lobos, Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolin, Ernesto Nazareth. Todos reconhecidos internacionalmente e pouco valorizados no Brasil.
