I love this. Everybody wants competition back in rap right? And honestly, rap was always at it's best when regional rap was thriving. One of the things that made the 90's the Golden Era was how much regional rap dominated the game. You turn it on Rap City and you would see Pac, Nas, UGK, Scarface, OutKast, Cube, Snoop. All regions putting out 🔥 Joey clearly feels some sort of way about NY no longer being the face of rap and he wants to put on for the East coast the way Dot is putting on for the West. This is all healthy regional competition.
A good starting point that I haven't seen brought up is 1 Train A$AP Rocky. Its a posse cut featuring Kendrick Lamar, Joey Badass, and like 4 other rappers that I like but you probably dont rock with that were all coming up at the same time. Tbh even if this song isn’t the most amazing, I think Kendrick would respect the energy. My understanding is he and Joey are friendly, and this feels like the type of competition Kendrick was trying to prompt with control a whole decade ago. No malicious reason in my mind that Kendrick wouldn’t work with Joey or one of his producers in the future.
