      Ca fait plaisir! Effectivement, le fait que ce soit un all-in-one tu peux juste mettre tes différents plans de cordes ensemble, et dans ce cas ci j’en avais que 3 plutôt que 5. Après pour les bois et les cuivres même chose, tu sépare par plan!

    I wonder why you didn't use both the strings and the woodwinds legato patches for the melody, especially since Albion ONE has a very good high strings octave legato patch. Cheers!

      Thanks a lot! Indeed I could have used this! I wonder how big is the difference...Although you do have the advantage when playing the octaves to have less of the higher octave and more of the lower octave, which can be useful sometimes.

    Albion One is still my go to library after many years…someone who was looking to buy his first orchestral library once commented that he was unsure if Albion One still was a good choice as it has been around for quite a while and maybe would sound old. I told him that it isn’t the age of a library that is important, it’s how it sounds and iits features that is important. I have libraries that date back to 2005 and still sound amazing..I mean, an orchestra is an orchestra. If I may comment on your piece (I hope I won’t offend you) it seems or sounds like you haven’t used any expression or dynamics when you recorded it which makes it sound somewhat flat. Otherwise it is a great piece!

    • @adavidcompo
      @adavidcompo  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Marc! Yes I can believe some of these sounds are that old!
      And no offence I appreciate the feedback :)
      maybe I haven’t showed them all but I did program the expression on the melodies in the strings and woodwinds, although I’ve found that to have a sustained intensity on these sounds I need to keep the velocity quite high for those. For the brasses the same.
      For the spiccato or shorts notes (med-low strings and percs) I did the opposite : no mod wheel but a little bit more velocity control.
      The only one I kept flat was the piano, just because I wanted it to cut through.
      I might present the rest of the trailer eventually, since there’s a buildup and this is pretty much the moment I go all in, so not much dynamic range I agree! But definitely, there’s always room for improvement with MIDI programming :)

    • @marcdeschryver7687
      @marcdeschryver7687 7 месяцев назад

      @@adavidcompo people mostly talk about using expression but, it’s more important to play with the ”dynamics” parameter. Expression is a pure volume control, while dynamics adjusts the instruments intensity…e.g. The brass playing softly (muffled) or loud (sharp and metallic)…For the best results, one should use a combination of expression, dynamics and vibrato. This will make the performance really come alive. 😉

    • @adavidcompo
      @adavidcompo  7 месяцев назад

      @@marcdeschryver7687 Right! I just find sometimes that when you add or take of like 5-10 velocity, sometimes there's a bump in the difference in timber you don't necessarily want when you want something that is sustained (like the high brasses, when going over a threshold at like 115 or 120, they just become suddenly very brassy and more obvious). I might need some more work with these libraries to finding the sweet spots where I can vary a bit the dynamic in a generally loud section!

      @@adavidcompo yeah..- I know what you mean…isn’t incredible that we can have an orchestra under our fingers nowadays…I just love listening to the instruments as they come alive while I play. And so many libraries to choose from. If you need a really EPIC library, you should listen to Orechestral Tools Metropolis Ark1. It sounds enormous but can only be used in that context of course. The Spitfire BBCSO is also beutiful and Cinesamples. But Incould go on forever because there are so many great sounding orchestral libraries out there. And the same with Choir libraries😀

    Hey Alexandre,
    nice breakdown of your composition. There are not a lot of videos of scoring in Ableton. Maybe you can show us some specialities of your type of composing in Ableton? That would be very kind.
    Anyway, nice video and subscribed...

    • @adavidcompo
      @adavidcompo  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks a lot for the subscription! Indeed, Ableton is often used for electronic or live music (which I also do), but I’ve found no problem in doing orchestral in there. I’m just used to the software when working on my own, but I do use Pro Tools when working with other composers or sound designers since it’s more commonly used in the film industry.
      But yeah, writing and programming MIDI in Ableton is very user friendly, and I just work much faster in there. There’s no such thing as a perfect software for certain genres, it’s just a tool you can use to your own will!
      I could go more into details in how I program the MIDI, good idea for a future video!

      I’ve had a couple of people asking me about this already, as Ableton is more seen as a DAW for electronic music (which I produce too, and the reason why I’m mostly working with Ableton now). It’s definitely on my video to-do list!

    The dynamic range just isn't there. It sounds "big" sure but can't be cracking MF let alone FFF.
    On the other side of things the intimacy isn't there either, I mean maybe with close mics, but the quieter dynamics just don't seem to be there either.
    I guess you can fake it with processing and using the synth to create fake FFF layers for blending, maybe that's what they meant by "all in one" 😁
    I'm not really sure why they're still selling this package. Colossus will get there much easier, plus it has the chamber orchestra. Abby Road One or BBCSO will be far more convincing/diverse overall, and Albion legacy is available on the cheap doing pretty much everything Albion One does.
    Maybe it would have it's place if there weren't so many cheaper options available from other sample developers, and they weren't trying to charge the same price as their other flagship products.
    The fact is it doesn't sound convincing/dynamic enough, I'd rather work with something like Audio Imperia's Nucleus Lite, even without Legatos.
    I don't find much benefit in having Legatos on large sections anyways (the ear kind of fakes it for the big stuff if you blend them properly).
    And if something doesn't sound convincing you might as well be using a lighter/cheaper library for sketching, saving the $ for a top of the line product or subscription.

    • @adavidcompo
      @adavidcompo  2 месяца назад

      I’m also looking into Nucleus, I’m really feeling the limitations of not having individual sections or instruments !

    • @user-eh1vp3ev3c
      @user-eh1vp3ev3c 2 месяца назад

      @adavidcompo
      The full version Nucleus is for sure a much more capable product than Albion One. The dynamics, the solo instruments, even the fine grain control over attack/decay. It has a much more neutral sound out of the box, but can certainly be eq'd to sound more like Albion if that's what you want.
      Another hidden gem I keep going back to is East West Symphony Orchestra. It goes on sale for dirt cheap and has a ton of flexibility, despite being a bit older it has a very natural sound to it.

    I deciding between Albion One and Albion Colossus. What do you suggest?

    • @adavidcompo
      @adavidcompo  7 месяцев назад

      Good question, it depends on what kind of music you're aiming for.
      From what I've seen and heard of Albion Colossus, it's a good library if you want your electronics to be in the front, and an orchestra backing the track. It seems they recorded the orchestra in a specific way, there's a 'hype' wheel you can bring up that can make the orchestra sound fake or overprocessed, but maybe it can be an interesting effect.
      From the production I did here, I can say that Albion One can provide by itself a great orchestra sound without electronic sounds backing it, but you do have access to a bunch of electronic sound design with Albion One that are really cool.
      I would go with Albion One, but it all depends on what you're looking for!

    • @EnrizeStockMusic
      @EnrizeStockMusic 7 месяцев назад

      @@adavidcompo Thanks! This is exactly answer i need. I do hybrid electronic-orchestra music with electronic stuff in the front and orchestra on the back, like you said. So Colossus should be the right choice.

    • @adavidcompo
      @adavidcompo  7 месяцев назад

      Hey there!
      Like I say at the end of my video, it's good if you want a big ensemble sound. But the fact that you can't control the different instruments in the sections (like flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon are all tied in the same patch), makes me think this might not be a good orchestral vst by itself. You can't have a solo flute for instance.
      If you want a lot of control for a similar quality and the same price, I would encourage you to check out Nucleus from Audio Imperia.
      Here's the video presenting all the patches : ruclips.net/video/kbdZ6UK1Ae0/видео.html
