MIKA is the name of the new BLS trains, MIKA pour modern, innovative, compact all-round train, In German : moderner, innovativer, kompakter Allround-Zug , RABe 528, which is derived from the Stadler FLIRT 200. The contract signed in January 2018 for a value of 650 million euros 58 trains with a length of 105 meters is planned until 2026. 28 trains for the Bernese S-Bahn network. 30 for long-distance regional express services. Originally, BLS ordered 24 instead of 30 trains for regional express services after the Federal Office of Transport decided (March 2017) that it would no longer be part of the regional network. Since the trains were intended for long-distance traffic, the Bernese Railways finally ordered 6 more trains.
