How to Create a Succulent Pocket Garden, with Laura Eubanks
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 июл 2024
- Garden designer Laura Eubanks (www.designforserenity.com) shows how to create a "mosaic-like" pocket garden of succulents, from start to finish. Laura's helpful tips include how she shops for succulents (she "counts heads"), and how she takes cuttings and plants them---resulting in a colorful, eye-catching and harmonious composition perfect for small gardens.
Although an in-ground garden like this is best for a mild, frost-free climate, many of Laura's ideas will apply to succulent container compositions that need to be overwintered indoors.
Video by Debra Lee Baldwin, author of three books about using succulent plants in gardens and containers: Designing with Succulents, Succulent Container Gardens, and Succulents Simplified.
Filmed in a private garden in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Size of the pocket garden shown in the video is approximately 9 square feet.

I have watched this video SO many times in the past few days because I have a small space that I am wanting to work on,. As a new succulent enthusiast this video is EVERYTHING I need to know. You are amazing Laura!
All my life, I thought I hated succulents because they were too barren and blah. Turns out I never saw any that were grouped in an actual creative DESIGN. This is so beautiful. Such an inspiration! I'm definitely going to add a rock garden to my yard now.
Love Laura Eubanks she’s an amazing designer with succulents.❤️
this lady is a genius. I love how she just goes in and starts cutting things apart.
Debra Lee Baldwin and Laura Eubanks!! two of the best in CA!
Thank you!
Amazing video Laura. Learnt more in the last 12 odd minutes than i've done in years of visiting nurseries. Something beautiful too about a knowledgeable gardneress!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for putting plant names on screen.
OMG Laura is a rebel succulent gardener! I so love this! I learned a lot just watching this video! Can't wait for my back to be better so I can dig more!
If the succulents stand you’ve done your job!
simply beautiful I think i will make one under my tree
Wow, this is exactly what I needed. A good dose of, just get on with it. I am planning a succulent rockery, tomorrow is the day thanks for the inspiration, ideas and bloody good grounding in not being so delicate.
OMG! I'm having a heart attack watching you clip the heads off the potted plant! Who knew? Here I am afraid to do hardly anything, and had no idea they were so easy to work with. Awesome!
No kidding. I've been growing succulents for years, long before they were so popular. And this seems totally brutal to me. Had me wincing.

I love when she says "I don't know any situation more stressful than getting your head cut off"
Yes, she is right you know..that would be pretty darn stressful.
This is amongst my favorite of Laura Eubanks videos. Inspirational, now I want to go out and start creating my own pocket garden, she makes it look so easy!!
I'm glad.
Finally! After eating 30+ videos I found a tutorial where she gets to the point. Love your video and I sure will subscribe. Thank you I learned so much ❤️🌱🌱❤️Laura.
Yay! Thank you!
I learned so much watching this video!..you really know how to talk to an audience...i am going to do this for sure.....
I love the way the rosemary fits in with the succulents, but i have had such difficulty growing that herb.
You don’t mention your location. It’s super easy to grow here in Southern CA.
i bought some hens and chicks last summer. they are the only plants in my garden that survived the snow and frost, as well as this year’s heatwave in the uk! so easy … just design and neglect 🤣
Yes! If it's any consolation, those don't thrive here in Southern CA. They seldom make it through our hot summers.
Absolutely stunning!!!! I can't hardly wait to do this to my garden!!!
This is the first video I saw about succulents and I just fell love!! ❤️
I just loved your video with so much care and love I thought it was only me but you have inspired me more I am just starting my second Rock garden and you have given me so much to work on thankyou from the UK
Thanks, Rosemary, I know a lot of Laura's followers feel the same!
I am absolutely very empress with your beautiful idea , you’re very artistic and I honestly love watching and support with you .
Every time I hear this music, I think if lady bugs dancing a Spanish dance, whipping their red and black skirts in the air.
Ha-ha! Love it!
Very beautiful arrangement
Oh wow, I'm swooning over the design of this little pocket garden! I lived almost my whole life in zone 9a in N. CA but now live in the high desert of Nevada in zone 6b. I miss my outdoor succulents so much but recently learned that many of the sempervivum are hardy to zone 5! As well as many stone crop. I'm definitely going to try this but I won't have nearly the variety that she has.
Absolutely gorgeous! For decades I have wanted to recreate the mass plantings of succulents that drape the landscape in CAL. My most favorite thing to do while visiting is go for a walk by myself around some random neighborhood searching for succulents. Its better for me to do that alone because I tend to forget I am right in the middle of a conversation, stop and stare in awe while the other person keeps on walking..and talking. Obviously I love succulents but I am hesitant to put them in the ground since its such a harsh environment here in the desert of Southeastern Arizona. We live in a cabin on 8 acres out in the desert which has a little private mountain covered with all kinds of cactus & desert shrubs. I am turning it into one massive wildflower/vegetable garden. I want it to look like it is overflowing with life, literally pouring down the sides and flowing into our valley mesquite food forest. When we moved here the whole property was covered in tumbleweeds. Most of the 200+ mesquite trees and shrubs were way overgrown and half dead. My boyfriend and I have worked very hard over the last year to clean it up but now its time to make it beautiful. After watching many of your awesome videos I think I am finally ready to take the plunge and make my dreams come true..I just decided on the perfect spot to showcase my little collection of succulents..Ohh yahh its happening today..no, more like its happening right now..I wish I could just show you what you have inspired me to do..you would love it, I hope.
I LOVE this video, SO informative and the succulent arrangements are GORGEOUS!! :)
Thank you so much for sharing this! It was very enlightening. I made my first attempt with succulents trying to do the same thing, but silly me, I spaced them out like perennials and waited forever for them to grow and fill the space. When they finally did, it looked off, so I pulled them all out to try again. :/ I just couldn't figure out how to get them to look so elegantly full. Now I get it! Thank you so much, I appreciate you posting and Laura demonstrating it!
Thanks, your comment was very helpful, too!
How beautiful! This totally inspired me to make a succulents garden in my backyard, very inspiring...thank you! 🙏❤😘
So informative for a newbie succulent gardener. I am inspired! You make it look so easy. I think I have been too gentle with my plants and now realize how sturdy they are. Thank you!
Wow! Thanks for this video! I never knew it was that easy! I always treat all plants even succulents with so much care when re-potting... And worry about them staying alive! But know I know!

Thanks. So so beautiful.❤❤❤
Omg!!!!!Wat a marvellous creation,Gud job.
WOW!!! So beautiful and such an informational video. Thanks for the share. Cheers!
I am in the UK and just created a small rock garden in the corner of my otherwise-boring, flat, geometrically-shaped front garden to give more of a 3-dimensional aspect to it and was looking for more ideas. Alpine plants dotted around protruding rocks with a covering of small, white limestone, chippings to show up the developing greenery and coloured flowers. It is placed in the corner of a level, bark-covered area about 9 ft x 12 ft with a few planted shrubs.
I would like to do the same thing as you but being in NW UK, with cold, damp, wet weather conditions much of the year (unlike the very SW corner of Cornwall and Devon) it looks difficult. However, a quick search online tell me I can try to cover them in winter to protect from frost or put in pots and bring indoors for winter - not practical in my little house. However, I have much enjoyed watching you demonstrate your obvious skills in creating such a beautiful Succulent "Pocket Garden", an unfamiliar over here. Many thanks from across the "Pond" for your interesting video.
Wow, Amazing!
absolutely beautiful. watching you work is mesmerizing
Beautiful garden! I have just started raising my own echeverias and cobweb hen and chick. I have hopes to create my own garden in the next few months! Thank you for the great videos and tips!
Admirable el trabajo desarrollado por Debra Lee Baldwin. Mis felicitaciones y la exhorto a continuar el mismo.

Very good video, it inspired me to have succulents in a part of my garden. Thanks.
Wow incredible! You have to trust the process
Very inspiring! Thank you so much for a lovely creation of succulent garden. My husband and I are planning to visit nursery so we can start our own little pocket garden.
So stunning! this has totally inspired me to create one this summer ❤️ Thank you for showing this slowly and step by step 🙏
You are so welcome!
Very nice presentation. Thank you.
Always....always wonderful and beautiful.
So so beautiful 🤩
wow that is so pretty
Loved this video!! Just beginning my first succulent garden outdoors (Z7a) and would most certainly have made more straight lines, even numbers of plants, not grouping and packing them in, etc. Thank you for giving me the confidence to "attack" this project. Thanks again!!
So nice love it
This is so beautiful 😍😍😍
Excellent video! I've been gardening with succulents for years but learned a lot of new tricks, especially that I've been too careful planting them. This video will help me get more massing in my yard. Thank you!
You're welcome, Marina. Glad you found it helpful!
😦 She’s brutal!
But knowledgeable. What a wonderfully educational video on how to handle succulents.
That garden came out beautiful ❣️
It is gorgeous. And I also love the big big Aloe Vera behind you .
I think it's an Agave plant. I don't think Aloe's get that large. But, I could be wrong.
Love love love. Thumbs up
I started my little succulent journey with a tiny little Sedum....those little berry leaves fall off if you sneeze in thier direction so I grew very scared and thought they were super frail. I'm excited to have seen in many videos how tough these guys really are. Not just Sedums but all kinds of succulents! AWESOME video....in my favorites list!
I loveeee sedums!! They are so hardy and grow from just the smallest clipping! You can even clip them and put them in water and they root!
The ground sedums are beautiful to fill in gardens!!! And they look amazing with chicks and hens!
They have tall sedums to and they look beautiful aswell! I have all different kinds of them :)

Beautiful
Love watching your video. Very amazing. Have a blessed day
Thanks so much
Beautifully done. Thanks.
Thank you too!
Gosto muito desse cultivo de suculentas e cactos ao tempo, estou ansiosa pra fazer um jardim assim com muitas pedras, como se elas estivessem em seu habitat natural
I wish we could plant succulents that BIG in Wisconsin! Around there our only choice is hardy sempervivum varieties! Great video, I love what your doing
This is so inspirational, thank you for sharing and for all the tips! I’m new to succulents and would have done things all wrong. I appreciate this so much.
Thank YOU, DeeAnn!
Very helpful!! Had me laughing too... 'what's more stressful than having your head cut off' ;) Thanks!
me encanta !!!!!
Great video. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Que hermoso jardín
Enjoy very much. Thank You. Bennie
My goal is to have my side garden looking similar to this. Great aesthetic!
Im supposed to be going to Las Vegas with my family this spring break (road trip from south Texas) and I'm planning to collect decorative rocks & maybe some cuttings along the way to set & plant. Great video! 👍🌿
Thank you! Laura Eubanks has many more videos on her own channel, too. Best of luck with your garden!
Love watching you video is amazing 😍
In a tropical country will succulents take full sun? Learned a lot from your creativity!
It depends on how hot it gets. All but a few (cacti, dasylirions, agaves, Portulacaria afra) can't take full hot sun in temps above 85 degrees F.
Nice!
Omg amazing!!! I want to be a succulent bada*s like Laura one day!!!
Laura's gone on to create her own highly popular RUclips channel. Check it out!
Wow!!!!
great video
Nice beautiful
Can you please do an update video pleaseeee👍👍👍👍I would love to see how they are doing. TFS
As last commentator “Jones “ mentioned “ would love to see a 2022 update on the patch you made
The garden has since changed hands, but I do have other before-and-after gardens on my channel, as does designer Laura Eubanks---she's really good about doing updates and showing how succulent gardens change and grow. ruclips.net/user/LauraEubanks
