You should come do a video about the area I'm from. A small rural farm town in west/central IL. And I know all the surrounding towns I've lived in all across the area. I'm currently in another small rural farm town in the very northwest pocket of IL 15 min from WI. It's far less interesting or cultural up here.
People that complain about the boring existence in Kansas are boring unimaginable people to begin with. After living for an excruciating period of time in Washington and California I could not be happier to be in the Wichita area of Kansas now. Life is so much more peaceful and stress free. People are actually pleased to meet you and smile when they greet you. Kansas is a great place to live and raise a family.
@@woodardcreekcreations8234 man I’m in Washington too, been looking at Ohio since my most of my extended family live out there. Life is alright here but it’s expensive and I would like to be able to buy a house sooner than later lol

Holy crap, I'm impressed with how much better your recent videos are. Thanks for putting in the time and research. As a Kansan, I especially appreciate the effort. As a lifelong Kansan, I was eagerly awaiting this video- I was sure that someone who didn't live here wouldn't get a thing right about this state. And boy, was I wrong. You NAILED it. You got everything right. I live in "Rich Snob" JoCo, but I'm lower-middle working class. The real southern JoCo wouldn't be bothered to visit where I am. Congratulations, Nick on your pronunciation of Olathe! Most people don't ever get that right!
I spend 5 years in Kansas. Fort Riley. I love Kansas, and I enjoyed the time right there. now I station in S. Korea Camp Humphreys. HUGE difference between the two places. I still miss Kansas. quiet and peace.
The whole “crime” aspect was kind of overblown in this video too. You’re a lot more likely to get robbed or shot in any major inner city, than you are anywhere in rural Kansas.
Oh yeah the big towns like Wichita get pretty bad but then some smaller towns in south eastern Kansas have a bunch of meth heads which probably lead to more crime.
I’ve been helping my grandpa with wheat harvest this past week. A guy’s grain truck broke down in the middle of the road. He asked for a fire extinguisher or water since his brakes were literally on fire. Usually I wouldn’t get out of my car (truck in this case) and help someone in the city. Normally it would be very dangerous to get out of your car, leaving the keys in the ignition, but I always feel safe out in the country, even when I’m all alone with a stranger. After I helped him put out the fire with a bunch of water bottles. I was about to leave since I was driving to get some food from Yoder (an Amish town so you know it’s good food), but he stopped me and asked me how much the water bottles were worth and paid me for them. Good guys out here.
"People in Kansas don't want to change just for change. If there's a sensible reason for change, then they'll change." That's a good line, and one that I think a lot of coastal people misunderstand about Kansas and try to lump us in with Missouri or southern states. I've lived in Kansas for most of my life but never heard of Gay-U, lol. I've always said Lawrence:Manhattan::Boulder::Fort Collins
I'm pretty sure I either fell asleep or became hypnotized driving through the featureless landscape of western Kansas. The roads are so straight and flat that my car just kept going.
Lawrence ks here, I've lived pretty much everywhere, and Lawrence is my favorite, just a chill, cool vibe, always something to do and see!!! LFK is fun!!!!
Born and raised here in Kansas. I'm from Topeka ,lived in Wichita for a number of years, and currently in Austin, TX. Pretty much spot on with a lot your observations. Wichita also has Eastborough. Goddard an Maize out west and Andover in the east are really nice areas. If you aren't an engineer or working in Koch Industries there isn't much opportunities which is why I took off. All the drugs in Wichita are in the South side. Topeka also has a lot of rich history in the Civill Rights Movement with Brown Vs. Board of Education. Vice President Charles Curtis, first Native American to hold the office is from Topeka.
Drugs have gotten worse in Kansas. The smaller towns are being hit hard with meth cooks and their customers. As an ER Nurse it is unfortunately a plague in some areas we see too often. Narcan is a commonly used drug which is sad.
I've lived in Kansas most of my life. Live far enough outside the KC area to have the small town feel but can drive an hour and have a million things to do. Love it!
Thank you so much Nick Johnson for educating us on everything 🙏. You helped me decide which state i'll ever want to move to ever since the pandemic happened I couldn't see myself. So you've really been very useful for the past year. :)
@@NickJohnson Can you convince people where to move away from? There's this family on my street with old lawn mowers and refrigerators cluttering up their property...
As someone who lives in Missouri, I worked for a road work company and worked a lot of job sites in Olathe. Olathe was crazy cool. So many beautiful houses and 90 percent of the people that I with there were extremely kind. Granted we did residential roads so I had to knock on hundreds of peoples doors a week to let people know we were working on their roads. Really nice people and would love to live there.
I'm getting older so I'm done with the parties and crowds. I would move there. I'm 45 now with kids. I would be surrounded by cows and cornfields. Perfect 👍🤣
@@NickJohnson I'm in South Texas. San Antonio. So it's kind of the same thing. Unfortunately too many people are moving here. Maybe when my kids grow up and it's just me and my wife. Hehe
I've lived in Lenexa (Johnson County) since 1987. The growth in Lenexa the last five years is STAGGERING. When we first moved here it had somewhat of a sleepy suburb feel. No longer. It's growing TOO FAST.

I am a Kansan through and through. I was born here and have lived here all my life. I love Kansas because it's my home but I won't lie, I wouldn't mind moving to another state like Arizona or Florida where it's warmer. Kirstie Alley is from Wichita and even though she lives in Los Angeles, she still has a home in Wichita and comes back periodically. She loves it here. I was born in Wichita as well and do miss it from time to time. Kansas really isn't a bad state to live in. It's cheaper to live and safer to live and really is a beautiful state. This video made me roll my eyes in places, made me laugh in places and also made me nod my head in places. Thank you for giving Kansas credit and helping us get noticed. Kansas is a place that will never leave you. 😊
i drove through Kansas once on my way to Colorado, and in one of the Rest Stop bathrooms there was a poster on the back of the bathroom stall that gave a number to call if you're the victim of human trafficking. Its the only place I've ever been where I've seen that.
@@jenniferkeane2455 yeah ☹️ I’m glad they have numbers up. It’s very easy to lose people out here and we don’t have much CCTV capabilities out in the country.
Considering that human trafficking is a huge problem in a number of states, that's pretty sad. I'm glad my state cares enough to try to help people get the help they need.
You nailed it on this video. I live in Topeka, it’s a dump unfortunately in at least half the city. Property crime is ridiculous and the police just can’t get a handle on it. I lived and worked in Johnson County and it is a really nice place. If you know where to live, or enjoy country living, Kansas is a good place to live. I like the slower family life, so I am here to stay. Thanks for sharing your videos. Peace
Hi Nick. I am one of the few tourists visiting Kansas from time to time. I live in Sweden in Europe and not many people know anything about Kansas, It was very interesting to look at your video. Last time i drove from Colorado Springs CO to Lindsborg KS. Now i understand why they call I 70 the lonley highway :)
@@KrissiCreates Hi. The first time in 1988 i was on the midsommer festival in Lindsborg with a Swedish folkdance group. I met some people that become friends so i brougt my family to Lindsborg next time also at midsummer festival :). Last time i visited Lindsborg was in 2015.
@@hakanhellgren I've been to the Swedish Dance festival many times in my life. My Grandmother lived in Hillsboro, not far from Lindsborg. We loved sharing that time together. I was adopted . Blonde haired, blue eyed. She always called me her little Swede. I found out through DNA that she wasn't far off. Norwegian, Swedish and European. Anyway, so glad you enjoyed your visits to Kansas.
I got pulled over twice within an hour for speeding in western Kansas. We were heading west. The first time I got a ticket, but the second time I told the cop that I couldn't stand how flat and empty the state was. I told him I just needed to get out of Kansas, and he sympathized with me and let me go. He said that sort of thing happens a lot.
Went to school in Lawrence from growing up in Seattle suburbs. I liked Kansas, just hotter than hell and colder than hell. Pretty brown and ugly in winter.
As a child we moved around a lot. My Dad was a government employee. I was adopted so there was a big difference in age between my parents and I. Consequently, I was only 12 when dad retired. By that time I had lived in 7 different states. When dad retired, we moved to extreme north western Kansas. Like, 30 minute drive to the nearest store kinda rural. I did end up graduating from high school there but I simply could wait to get out. The hunting and fishing are great but there wasn’t much else to do. I.n a time before the internet there wasn’t really much opportunity for education or expansion. In short, I can see why young people are leaving in droves. There simply isn’t a good reason to stay unless you’re in an agricultural family.
Just drove through Kansas. Almost 6 hrs West to East. Amazing to see nothing but prairie and farmland in every direction clear out to the horizon. Peaceful
I'm a native Texan who has lived in all geographical regions of the U.S. I do a lot of over-the-road traveling throughout the lower 48 states. (No, I'm not a trucker.) I have been to or through Kansas a number of times, and I like Kansas. I generally drive the beautiful wide-open spaces of Kansas on I-70, I-135 and I-35. It's especially a pleasure driving in Kansas after I'm been stuck in traffic on the East or West Coasts, where it is heavily populated and very congested. The Kansans whom I've encountered have always been polite, friendly and down-to-earth - the kind of people that I like. No matter where you live, there are always going to be pros and cons. If there are any Kansans reading my comment, know that this Texan gives your state a thumbs up. You should be proud of Kansas! P.S. I don't give that rating to some of the other states.
I used to work in Topeka. Never lived there. I had a saying that was "I've been working in Topeka for __ years, and I'm still trying to find the good part of town".
As someone who went to high school and university in the Sunflower State, I too agree that this video is pretty much spot on to how Kansas really is. I would say Kansas is a great place to be . . . from. No, I do not miss living in Kansas as I now live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. When I do drive back to Kansas to visit friends and family, I do enjoy the fact there are few crowds and traffic issues, but the super, slow pace of life there with few opportunities does not make me want to move back there. I have also said that when I need to get away from the hustle of the big city, Kansas is a great place to get some sleep, rest, and relaxation.
Nick, I've noticed you're more recent state unboxings are much more in depth than your earlier unboxings are you going to redo the earlier ones when you finish the rest of the states?
Place is great after living in Florida 63 years. Heat not as bad (no sticky heat) and neither is the traffic, unless you live in one of the cities. No free land here though. Kansas does help out of staters start a farm, but you must have a business plan and qualify for lots. But it's not free land, though easier to get than most anywhere. You will still need lots of money. For a sparse and conservative state, there are enough Democrats in the 3 cities alone to elect a Democrat governor. Question is, what do young people do here for fun? Not much for them to do here. What I like about Kansas over Florida is due to it's sparsness, meaning less idiots per square inch around you.
@jason royale I don't know bud, I've yet to figure out Kansas politics. Some claim it to be a red state, as the members in Congress would suggest, but DMV was closed for 3 months over covid. Apparently, Republicans in Kansas are OK with this. Did not happen in Florida, mask and an appt was all you need. Florida voters signed enough petitions to create a referendum on the ballot, and Floridains voted to pass medicinal Marijuana. However, still, the state is dragging their feet to make this legal. Kansas seems to be the Bible belt. I cannot understand why Christains vote Republican. I mean, what has Republicans ever done for Christians? I was in grade school when they took the Bible out of schools. This was in the early 60s. Then abortion became legal in 73. Since then, Republicans have done nothing for the cause of Christians. Perhaps they vote Republican as the lesser of 2 evils. Christians haven't figured out, they are still voting for evil. I hate politics, but hate worse, like you, they intrude upon my liberty the Constitution guarantees. No one seems to care bud, and as long as the 2 major parties control everything, nothing will ever change for the good of our liberty.
Ok I’m from Kansas and you are right about a lot of this except the farming part and how it works. It’s a lot different and the gps and technology is misunderstood. There is no technology where they can operate their farm equipment from hundreds of miles away. A person is always in the tractor.
Several years ago I took my grandson to Hutchinson and we did so many wonderful things. We toured the Cosmosphere and learned all about the space program. We went to a place called “Flight Safety” which was a company where pilots from all over were trained on simulators. My grandson got use one to Iand a big jet and later to fly an actual Cessna. We toured a salt mine where lots of Hollywood props were stored. There were many Mennonite families in the area. That vacation was one if the best memories my grandson has. It was a Road Scholar inter generational trip. If they still offer it I highly recommend a trip to Hutchinson.
I'm in my 20's and moved back to Kansas 3 years ago, the Manhattan area to be more specific. Manhattan is a wonderful area to live, nice friendly community, good schools, diversity and relatively low crime compared to other cities similar to it's size. With any college town your gonna have petty crime, but violent crimes out here don't happen very much. (unlike the wonderful state capital 40 miles to the east). Tons to do if you like the outdoors, lots of fishing, hiking, or partying since its a college town. Also jobs are starting to move in with Kansas State being a major agriculture college. They just built a massive NBAF facility by the university with tons of new jobs. In general the Manhattan area is a fun family friendly place with a lot to offer, my wife and I really enjoy and love this place.
NBAF has been supposedly being built for the last 10 years. They will not hire locals. K-state will hire out of states or foreigners to work there. I know I lived in this police town called the little apple for over 20 years. Don’t you notice all the restaurants/ businesses closed? Cocobolos, Hastings, Varneys book store etc.. It’s a dying town.
@@sandilobianco6734 Hastings closed everywhere. Yes its unfortunate about Coco Bolos but they are still operating out of there catering kitchen. Alot of places come and go from Aggieville its expensive to rent that's normal for College Districts in every college town. Varney's has been closed for like 5-6 years who would of ever guessed a book store would close, since most people use Audiobooks or some other kind of internet form of reading. If that is the logic your going by every place in America is dying because places close down everyday. In order for places to be dying they need to stop gaining population, Manhattan has continued to grow every census.
Thank you Nick, I enjoyed this video! I was born in Topeka and spent most of my in Kansas. It is a great place to raise a family! Living in fly over land definitely has its advantages, especially these days! 😃
Hi, exactly! I live in the Piper area of KCK and I feel like people not from here don't understand that the county has changed. Both myself and my husband were born and raised here, went to college and wanted to move to the coasts but we couldn't do it 15 years ago and now we couldn't be happier here. I feel like more diverse areas get a bad rap but I love how multicultural WYCO is. And yes, it is the snobby area!!

@@KS5040 I am a KU grad. My living boundary is limited to the only two blue counties in entire states, Douglas and Johnson. To be fair, Kansas red counties residents are no where as red as Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. We do have a work life balance and good schools in JoCo. However, if we want to visit a decent national parks or a large city, it is too far to drive. The cost to go out of town is limiting the people going out to see other states or get to know other cultures oversea. Over time, people would become a product of the environment.
I've lived in Kansas since 1972. My family transfered here from Kentucky due to my Dad's job. When we arrived here, Olathe's population was around 25,000 residents. It's now around 142,000. I went to Emporia State University in Emporia, Lived in Wichita, KS for a year after graduating and moved to Shawnee, KS, then to Lenexa KS and then back to Olathe. I've been to the Kansas National Guard base in Salina Kansas and Fort Riley, Kansas Military Base over 22 years of Kansas National Guard Service. I've also been to Topeka quite a bit but the areas I've been through are not very impressive. Fore being a Capital one would think it's wouldn't look like a dump but it does. Maybe the newer housing areas may be nice but the City proper looks really run down and in disrepair. Homeless: Yes, we have homeless in Kansas but we don't have huge Homeless camps like in California. We have a homeless camp on the West side of Olathe that is hidden but I've dealt with people from that camp before. You will see the occasional begger at intersection in Kansas City, MO, Kansas City, KS, Olathe and Wichita. I'm pretty much done with Living in Johnson County. There are way too many people moving here from the Coasts, buying up those $550K plus homes and bringing their politics with them. I'm working to prepare my house for sale and move out to the Country where I can have 20 acres and be able to work on my hobbies without restrictions. I'm not sure where we we will be moving as we haven't gone out and really researched in person, areas we would like to live yet but I have some Ideas I don't want to share because I don't want a bunch of Left Wing crazy people following.

I have lived in several of the "cool" places, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona,, Denver, Albuquerque , Oregon. I have been all over the entire West, the National Parks, Rocky Mountains, both high desert and low desert, the entire California Coast but nowhere I have been to where I truly felt like I was in heaven on the highway approach into Lawrence, Kansas. To me it is the most spiritual and gratifying city and state on this planet. Sound crazy? My roots are there. Even though I left just before the age of 10, my first decade of life there was enough to cement Kansas into my heart and soul. I didn't realize that until I came back for my first visit in 1991 and was totally blown away with emotion. Then in 1994 during a visit to KU , in the library basement I saw a very kind senior man who turned and looked at me and said, "Welcome home." I smiled and walked away, then I went back to look for him and he was gone. There were no windows and doors in the basement, nowhere for him to go. The man was wearing a mechanics uniform and later found out that's what my grandfather liked to wear. He had been deceased 30 years at the time. That was my sign to keep coming back to Kansas.

I’m from Topeka. I lived in Wichita and Lawrence for 3 years and I’m now in Overland Park to be closer to work. Each town has something nice to offer, Lawrence has been my favorite place so far. I loved Wichita too, but didn’t feel super safe there and avoided going out once it got dark.
Where I live in Texas, cow tipping has been attempted a few times by high school kids. It’s super dangerous because most of the time, people assume you’re cattle rustlers, and you might get shot.
I'm honestly surprised by how dangerous the cities in Kansas are. Are you and Mappy going to do a duet someday? Also, Nick, did you know that Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita? When I first heard that fact, I remember wondering why an Italian restaurant chain would be founded in a place like Kansas. Then it hit me: to make pizza, you need to bake bread. . . .
It is unusual in that Wichita was actually the founding location of several nationwide restaurant chains. Great place for interesting fast-food places, horrible place for anything else.
It makes sense. Kansas is so rural and decentralized that it seems like criminal activities may be less reported on than in urban areas It feels like something out of courage the cowardly dog because well, that's where the show takes place. Nowhere, Kansas!
I was born on Grandma's farm, 2 miles north of Herington, and grew up on a farm and went to school in Woodbine, about 20 miles SE of Abilene and went to high school in Chapman and then to KU in Lawrence. Haven't been back to Kansas since 2005 for a family reunion. Haven't lived there since 1966.

Moved to Wichita from Washington state 3 years ago. Best decision I ever made. All the so-called "exciting" cities to live are now completely trashed with homeless, drugs, crime, and expensive cost of living, and traffic. I feel like my stress level has almost disappeared living in Wichita.

Windy! I live in a Wichita suburb. They say when the wind stops in Kansas, the people fall over. It's a great place to learn to fly a plane! Me and many of my friends have gotten our pilot licenses. It's affordable, and the state does not tax your plane. Wichita is actually quite nice. I grew up in Omaha, which is a bit bigger. I lived in San Diego for six years, much bigger and more expensive. Wichita is great for us. We will probably move when we retire, though.
I lost everything in the Camp Fire, and am now in Sonoma county living in a relative's spare bedroom. Median home price here is now $780,000 and the most basic apartment you're going to find around here will cost $1,700 a month.
Wanting to get out of the hell that is Washington . Taking a look at Kansas. 👍
Boring is totally fine with me. My Dad for some reason wanted to move to Kansas so it's always been in the back of my mind.

How's fort riley? What's up with the housing on base and off base? Did you buy. A house? Should you buy a house or just rent. For the 3 years?
The whole “crime” aspect was kind of overblown in this video too. You’re a lot more likely to get robbed or shot in any major inner city, than you are anywhere in rural Kansas.
But cities have more people and should have more crimes. If you have to compare rural areas to cities, that’s not good lol
Depends on the farmer lol
Try Salina, or junction city.
Wichita is a different story with a whole new level of crime.
Oh yeah the big towns like Wichita get pretty bad but then some smaller towns in south eastern Kansas have a bunch of meth heads which probably lead to more crime.
Been waiting on this video for a while and it was worth the wait, everything is SPOT ON!!!

Drugs have gotten worse in Kansas. The smaller towns are being hit hard with meth cooks and their customers. As an ER Nurse it is unfortunately a plague in some areas we see too often. Narcan is a commonly used drug which is sad.

I have been to or through Kansas a number of times, and I like Kansas.

Unfortunately...we drink.
Been waiting for this.
As someone from kansas, same

I'm not sure where we we will be moving as we haven't gone out and really researched in person, areas we would like to live yet but I have some Ideas I don't want to share because I don't want a bunch of Left Wing crazy people following.

@@mrpoopoohead7668 Rent in Jonson County, KS is around $1,200 to 1,400 for a two bedroom apartment. It's probably about the same in Emporia, KS due to the University creating demand for rentals.
I absolutely love these unboxing vids. What’re you going to do once you cover all states? You should do countries! Or idk what else🤔
I'm a minority in a small western Kansas town with a population of 2,000 if that. Never have had a problem or any racists remarks . my neighbor is a retired sherriff and we'll talk for hours and mow each other's yard. It's quiet, very safe, calm, friendly. My gym membership is 10$ a month. If you want a calm , safe living, do research of where to live here in Kansas and live out your years
👍👍
My state Kansas! Home Sweet Home! Lived here all my life. This video did a great job. Also we are next to Missouri so we just cross the state line and there is plenty to do there. I am not saying Kansas is not great. It is home and is really is beautiful. It is not all flat like people think. There are many landscapes with beautiful rolling hills too which is even more beautiful in the fall with all the colors. Have you ever seen a Kansas sunset? Breathtaking! Just saying! Thank you for this video about my state
Ok Jackie ❤️❤️
I’m from Topeka. I lived in Wichita and Lawrence for 3 years and I’m now in Overland Park to be closer to work. Each town has something nice to offer, Lawrence has been my favorite place so far. I loved Wichita too, but didn’t feel super safe there and avoided going out once it got dark.
When you recagnize the apple bee's less than half a mile from your house: Oh hey look I can even see the hampton inn. lol
Then it hit me: to make pizza, you need to bake bread. . . .
Yes! You do! Mappy and I did a duet once but I can't remember which video. I think it was like about poor people or something
White Castle was founded in Wichita as well, it's strange how there's not a single one left in the state though
It is unusual in that Wichita was actually the founding location of several nationwide restaurant chains. Great place for interesting fast-food places, horrible place for anything else.
as a Kansan we are too. when you encounter a hostile person it always throws us off even being a Kansan native.
It makes sense. Kansas is so rural and decentralized that it seems like criminal activities may be less reported on than in urban areas
It feels like something out of courage the cowardly dog because well, that's where the show takes place.
Haven't lived there since 1966.
...and your point is?
Another great video. I just remember it's Tuesday and then I saw your video. Watching now. Thanks.😁
Hope you enjoyed it Maret!
@@NickJohnson Very much. Thank you.😁 Look forward to your next video.
been here 24 years I love here I won't move out of KS anytime soon before retire
When I think of Kansas, I think of The Wizard Of Oz.
Lol
Me too
When I think of Kansas,I think of 🌪 tornados, and losing everything I worked for the last 50 years. I pass.
That and Superman lol.
I think of meth lol
Not really sure how I feel about this video....from Wichita and currently in Lawrence. Also Mizzou is no longer a KU rival since they left the conference like 10 years agog
Is mission Hill actually a hill suburb? For example, Cashmere in Christchurch New Zealand is on hills that are several hundred feet high.
@@KS5040 Thanks, it sounds a bit like Cashmere.
Moved to Wichita from Washington state 3 years ago. Best decision I ever made. All the so-called "exciting" cities to live are now completely trashed with homeless, drugs, crime, and expensive cost of living, and traffic. I feel like my stress level has almost disappeared living in Wichita.
I'm from WA and look in Kansas as the houses are way cheap compared to here now. especially for what one gets here. do you miss the ocean or other aspects that make WA a great place?
@@kingshanethe1st No, not at all. I lived there 31 years and have seen it all and could go back and visit any time if I wanted to, but I don't. Here's the thing....I have everything I need here for my daily life at a reasonable price, in peace, with no chaos, and I live 10 minutes from a large airport in the center of the country and can hop on a plane and be anywhere in a very short time. To me it's the best of all worlds.
Watching now on a long busride
Great videos !
Who does the map illustations?
Kansas too flat for me but I have people beinh offered cash to move to Topeka

I hope you do a series titled “Revisiting…. State.” You do a great job and I’d like to get more of your insights on some of the states you’ve already done.
like re-do the earlier ones?
Maybe do biggest cities/state capitals in each state. More of a micro approach
Yes like that
I was thinking the same thing. There are videos that are a couple years old and I’m sure things have changed (housing prices, job’s, etc.). Plus the interviews give an interesting perspective.
I'm from Kansas and this video is pretty accurate.
Always
I am actually coming to Kansas this week staying for two weeks. My boyfriend moved back there. We are planning to get a home here. This helped.. I am a little worried I’m from LA . My daughter and I are little worried about the move.
@@beinggreen24 Which part of the state?
Cool! I just watched the dust bowl documentary it's great and really sad too!
I lost everything in the Camp Fire, and am now in Sonoma county living in a relative's spare bedroom. Median home price here is now $780,000 and the most basic apartment you're going to find around here will cost $1,700 a month. Traffic and parking are always a nightmare, water rationing is looming, and this could well be the worst fire season ever. I'm a CA native who is done with CA.
Go to Arizona
@@NickJohnson I lived in Tucson in 1992/94 and it was too hot for me. My brother lives near Wichita now, going to visit him soon and see how I like it.
🤣🤣 I love your intro’s 👍🏻👍🏻 Kansas actually looks really nice , 🌻
It does!
its quite which i like, i have bad anxiety from my 10 years in the army, so large populations and crowds sketch me out so its perfect. but not for everyone
@@aviator2252 I’m in the west. My favorite thing to do before bed is listen to the silence while I’m watching the stars.
@@caitlynguthrie5641 the stars are beautiful here when you get away from the cities, they pale in comparison to out in Kuwait and Iraq, i have never seen the milkyway so clearly. best memory from my time there by far
@@aviator2252 I would LOVE to see that some day. The best Milky Way sky I’ve ever seen was back in the 90s all the way down in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. It was like we could reach out and take a bite off. It was a whole other world. My best friend and I would climb up on her mom’s roof and lay there until we fell asleep. We’d always get our asses kicked for that one 🤣 But it was always worth it.
It's surreal to hear someone talk about suburbs as being desirable places. I can't imagine why anyone would want to live in a suburb.
Wichita has bad traffic twice a day and the aerospace industry turns over hard.
So says the person who did not have to drive into and out of Charlotte North Carolina when the city decided to go from two lanes to four. It would take me two to three hours to get home.
Yes, aerospace turns over hard and I’ll never forgive Boeing ever. But the traffic is nothing. There’s always more than one way to get to where you want to go.
I've been to Charlotte only for an all star race and the 600. It was the one Dale Jr looked like he won until he ran out of gas.
@@1Mhoram9 Agreed....never, never forgive Boeing!
I love that you tell it like it is and don’t sugarcoat things

AMAZING how people can run down a State. At least we ARE NOT and DO NOT want to be like California and other States. You CAN NOT beat the BEAUTY of the Flint Hills in Kansas and many other beautiful spots. Not mentioned Senator Alan Spector is also from Kansas. He and Senator Bob Dole both were from Russell. I can go on and on as to WHY you SHOULD live here. YES, it is small, I had 9 in my graduating class, and 7 of us went all 12 years together.
Yeah, my graduating class was 12. Argonia. I think I know you. I remember your name, but you were older than me. Vineyards and Jones' age....
If you're the Wayne Wilson I remember. You'd play basketball at the city park sometimes.
@@boodro2122 I did play a lot of basketball, that was our main sport in school, but I grew up at Rosalia (just east of ElDorado). I was very active in 4-H and won many trips and showed cattle at many shows. Nothing wrong with the small schools. Looked back thru my memories and Richard Theurer, jim Shetlar and Carol Harris all from Sumner County would have been some names I was in 4-H with. We were all Sate winners in 1962 and 1963. I was State Rabbit in 1962 and State Jr. Leadership in 1963. I also knew a Larry Dugan from S. Haven very well and used to work with him.
@@waynewilson8775 ok, that's awesome Wayne. Probably not the one I remember.(His graduating class would have been early 90's) But, yeah!
