The success of the Venom movies and at the same time failure of movies like Morbius, Madame Webb and now Kraven clued me in on what Sony’s issue is, they’re just not good at writing serious movies, the Venom trilogy all seemed to have this funny sense of humor to them, whereas Morbius, Madame Webb and Kraven all wanted to be taken seriously, which Sony just isn’t as good at, and I think the failure of Kraven finally confirms that suspicion, especially because it came out the same year as Venom 3, which had the opposite kind of tone and delivered a (In my opinion) enjoyable movie, I’m not saying that making fun movies is the end all be all solution to Sony’s problem but I’ll say this, it’s an environment they can definitely work better in than this one
I think the Venom movies worked because Tom Hardy is fully aware that those movies are not to be taken seriously. Plus, he was a producer and conceived the story of Venom 2 and Venom 3 so he understands what he’s trying to do.
Maybe Sony need advice from James Gunn since he has experience in making movies on characters that are very lease known. Examples: Guardians of the Galaxy by Marvel and The Suicide Squad (not the 2016, the sequel) by DC Comics.
I haven’t seen Kraven but is it actually worse than Madame Web? Madame Web being horrible is not surprising because it was directed by a first time director. I would have expected Kraven to be better because JC Chandor actually has several movies under his belt.
12:40 yes, and most of us love the first venom too. The problem is that, putting that love aside, venom is still a bad movie. The story took too much time between the beginning and the symbiote making contact with Eddie, then everything felt so rushed. Yes, Sony may have the potential to make good movies but when it comes to this "sonyverse" they don't seem to care, and it is more than clear that these movies can't work WITHOUT a spiderman, as simple as that. They can't keep doing this because they proofed the focus is wrong. God! Madam Webb even reused some footage from spiderman 2, and they're not even in the same universe.
I remember saying back then that I liked Venom but Sony had to correct a lot of things in the other Spiderman villain movies if they wanted continued success and not a flash in the pan. He dismissed me saying that with 800 million grosses proved that they didn't have to change anything. Guess who is laughing now John.
DC first Aquaman was good. First Wonder Woman was great but even they knew it was time to pack it up and start over. You can only ride Spiderverse animated movies for so long. All the live action Spiderless movies were not good. Including the Venom movies imo
I was going to see Kraven until I saw your (JC) review & Dan Murrell's review. I liked the 8 minute preview but you said that was the best part... I'll watch it on streaming.
Just saw the movie. Its a tv movie. Nothing special. A Fail. I give it 3.5/10.. But better than Morbius, Madame Webb and much better than Joker 2. Does not warrant the hate.
To tell the truth, Venom Series are bad as well. I think these success makes Sony misjudege how to make movies. Finally they made very bad movies, Morbius, Mobiaus Madam Web, Kraven.

Not sure how it had a John Wick feel. Look at both trailers, John Wick 1 had plenty of action and lines like the "yeah! I'm thinking i'm back!" Line that is loved. Kraven had no action or lines that made me want to watch it, Kraven comes from a known source and I like comics. Wick was an unknown but they made you want to check it out.
It all comes down to Amy Pascal and Avi Arad as producers. All the movies they produce have been terrible. They just need to look at Spiderman games and animated films to show that Sony can make good spiderman stories.

Sony was set up to make a few movies after No Way Home. They could have made two Spider-Man movies. One following Tobey Macguire and the other following Andrew Garfield. It could have shown them going back to their universes after the events of No Way Home and how their worlds are and how they are changed from the events of No Way Home.
By an Andrew Garfield-led film, do you mean the Amazing Spider-Man 3 or something original instead? From my point of view, it makes no sense to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 because as great Andrew was in No Way Home, it DOESN’T change the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a disappointment critically and financially. I can tell you that I would have had no interest in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 because of how bad the second one was.
