Regarding Amazon satellite internet service .. to date, Amazon has [NOT] launched anything into space. Everything has been at most upper atmosphere launches in his penile rockets. So when I hear these grandiose plans of saturating space with his incredible number of satellites per day being made, I'll believe it when I see it.. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see him compete with Starlink.
I hope competition will be a good thing, but I wonder if they both are overestimating the market just as DirecTV and Dish did? Seems SpaceX is concentrating on being a solution mainly in the 2nd and 3rd world nations which don't have wired infrastructure already. But will they get enough subscribers to become profitable? The jury is still out on that. In any event, I hope the competition helps them focus on controlling costs. If they ever become competitive with Spectrum at my current $80/month, I'll switch in a heartbeat.
@@rosswarren436 .. 5G or even 4G LTE "could" solve the vast majority of rural internet needs especially if we followed the European / Asian market of a single but very robust shared internet and mobile phone model. Instead in the United States and other poorly planned "mine not yours / sharing" countries you have mediocre and mixed results requiring goofy solutions that are often so expensive their cost cannot be justified. Example in South Korea their 1/1Gbps all Fiber service 5-6+ years costs $19.99/mo and by now I'm certain it's even faster.
That would be stupid to charge for old television shows. Some of them can be found on RUclips. Bring some cable channels like MTV, CNN, FOX NEWS, ESPN, BET, TNT, AND NBA AND NFL TV and then I will pay 10 bucks or more.
@thedude5040 I don't need all that many channels. Most services ask for 50 to 80 dollars for 80 channels cable. I just need to top 12 channels. So 25 dollars is good enough, like the ones I already mentioned.
@@tamikemitchell4788 $25/mo for espn. Plus $20 for NBA and NFL. Plus $10 for the other channels. Sorry, but your price point is economically unsustainable for the networks.
Not surprised at all that D+ isn't profitable yet. They entered the market with such a low price a few years back and haven't raised it significantly (though they have raised it). I viewed it as a loss leader by them to establish market presence.
WoW that it great news if they start offering over the air TV thru 5G AND the internet. I sort of get that now thru an AIRTV2 DVR. All the local channels are integrated thru the Sling Free app and I can watch on multiple TV`s and phones but it relies on my indoor antenna which fortunately for me most of my channels come in crystal clear. Would be nice for people to get OTA thru the internet with consistently good reliable reception.
No it Does NOT surprise me at all that the Streaming services are NOT profitable. I have been in the Cable TV business for over 50 yrs. My family started a small Cable TV company in 1970 when it was just “OFF AIR” TV only. CATV stands for Community Antenna Television. No need for every house to have “Rabbit Ears” or a roof top antenna, when CATV came along. We wanted the customer to subscribe to “OUR” outside antenna service. We built a 500 ft tower and had individual antennas aimed at 4 different cities. We offered 8 channels for $6.00 a month. We launched 5 channels of Satellite TV in 1979. (CBN, A&E, USA, ESPN with HBO as the lone Pay Channel). The 80’s and 90’s is where the Satellite TV market started to skyrocket with all the additional channels we have today In 1992 Congress pass the Cable Act of 1992 and gave the “Off air Broadcasters ie. Networks like ABC/CBS/NBC/ FOX etc” the power to force Cable TV operators to elect “Must Carry” or “Retransmission Consent” status in order to carry their programming. The only way for “off air” broadcaster to make money was by selling ads. When the satellite channels started offering the Cable Operators 2 min an hour to “sell” advertising and insert into the respected channel, then this started to take its toll on the broadcasters. So, the broadcasters elected “retransmission consent” and forced the cable operator to “pay the price” for carriage or forced to drop them form their system lineup. So if the Local CBS station for example and local cable operator could not agree on fee, then Cable company had to drop the channel. Also, the Broadcasters has NETWORK NON-DUPLICATION protection rights in their ADI (Area of Dominant Influence). Cable operators could NOT get a “CBS” for example and “import” that channel from another ADI. So the Cable operator has NO CHOICE but to “pay up” for carriage. Seems that most of the negotiations happen during “Football” season. We have all seen the crawl at the bottom of a screen that say this channel is not available because so and so if asking for more money or so and so is NOT providing you with OUR programming, The Broadcaster blames the cable or satellite provider and vice versa. So, the customer’s BILL goes up and the customer thinks it is the BIG BAD cable tv operator who is “ripping them off”. During our ownership of the cable tv business, 50% of ALL our expenses went to “Programming cost”. One more thing that I failed to mention is that the Satellite channels would NOT let us offer their programming “ala carte”. Take Viacom for instance. They have many channels under their company and they price their channels in a way that the cable operation needs to “take or carry” them all for the same price as the most popular channels under their brand. That is where the HGHT COST of cable tv started. The GREEDY Broadcaster and Satellite delivered channels forced the Cable operator to pass those cost to the consumer. It is like when you go a restaurant, you get a menu, they don’t say you have to order everything on the left side or right side, you get to pick A la carte. The cable tv industry fought hard to get a la carte from content providers, but got struck down and failed. So now the “public” got so tired of the HIGH PRICE of Cable TV, that the streaming service started popping up just offering a handful of channels. Research told us that every cable tv customer had 8 to 15 favorite channels they watch. So why are they forced to take 90 plus channels? The streaming service have tried to put together those smaller packages of channels. BUT it looks like the CONTENT OWNERS are still just as greedy and force those rate hikes on them like they did the cable operators (and Dish and Direct TV). So, to me it is no wonder the streaming services are losing money or just not profitable. The cable tv industry is slowly transitioning from a Video Voice and Data company to just being an INTERNT only provider. The cable operator doesn’t care where you get programming from as long as you get your internet from them. It is very interesting to me to look back and see how where and why we got here some 53 years later. Happy Hunting!
They call it low cost, but $400 for the equipment is not low cost. And what's the monthly fee? Low cost, in my opinion, would be $25 a month max, and no more than $100 for the hardware. Think it cannot be done? Back when DirecTV sold receivers (SOLD, not leased), you could get the whole kit for $49 and you owned the hardware. That was two decades ago. Technology has advanced along with what it is being asked to do but costs to make it should be less per unit.
I like your videos and the content that you cover. May I suggest that you slow down a bit when you speak? It’s hard to understand what you are saying (or perhaps my hearing has just gotten bad, which is entirely possible)?
Glad Tubi has come out that they will not charge, I just love what the have. I ‘d like to see South Park come out with a Harry & wife 2.0 episode 😂. I am surprised to see Disney not doing so well, and it across the board for them. I really enjoy their content and have even been on a couple of their Caribbean Cruises. What you see them offering for viewing is exactly what you see in their staterooms. Disney has been so big, for so long and eventually it has to change. I am not that surprised , but I am disappointed. Thank you for your continued cutting edge info.👍
It does not surprise me that many streaming services aren't profitable or yet profitable.... If you're in technology and know a bit about what makes the cloud "go" then you know that the cloud is expensive - when someone watches something on-demand / streams content that data is housed somewhere and pushed through networks that cost someone a bunch of money. It does though amaze me that there isn't more live streaming options as that might be done with less infrastructure (I'd think) than everything on-demand....
Yes, to solar powered cell towers. They need to do this for Electric vehicles as well but mainly for long distance. Having the option versus having to wait and charge makes more since to me especially when you are traveling several hours on long trips.
Im an electrical engineer. solar powered cell towers is not a thing. They use so much power you would need more land than the tower takes up. Also zero of the existing cell towers were designed for the extra wind loading of panels mounted on the tower. Its just green washing with the general public too ill-educated to know any better.
Commercial solar powered car chargers is not really a thing either unless it connected to like a 20 acre solar farm. You struggle with how low density solar power is. For comparison the average amount of solar panels on a house roof is 5kw. A 5g cell tower needs 11kw. A 5kw solar array is only a 30A level 2 car charger
Disney+ not being profitable is obvious and well as the rest of streaming services. They started the cost way too low to get subscribers. Now it's going to continue to increase in price for a time.
I am envious of all of the people who have access to 5G signals. You can get discounts on subscriptions if you use a VPN and subscribe through a location in India. You will need a currency conversion calculator for the exact cost but it works.
@@jimroscovius It's just life on the mountain where I am. Therre's only power and phone with DSL for service. I had to cut the cord because there isn't even a coax line, lol. They did however run a new FO line so there should be drops installed on the houses soon and then I can make an appointment to get fully connected after that. I'm paying $70/ month for 10M now, lol. For $80/ month I can have a 1 Gig line, so I can't wait.
@MakeitZUPER I pay $80 for 600Mbps cable internet through Sparklight. I'm happy with the speed, and there's no data cap. I just wish there were options. I guess I really want 5G phone service.
@@jimroscovius There was an 80M service offered for $60/ month but I want the full Gig anyway. There's less of a chance of them throttling my service since I'm going for the mid grade option. I'm only one person but I want to be able to use my laptop, cell and streaming services all at the same time without problems. The 10M I'm supposed to be getting sits around 4-6M instead and I have had enough of that. I lose Paramount all the time and it's really annoying for my TV to suddenly change over to it's own TV service by default. I can use my cell through the wireless for FB and messenger as well as internet but I can't make calls or use the text service attached to my phone number. My other cell phone does the same thing so I know it's not the phones, it's the crappy WiFi that comes with the DSL service.
Solar powered 5G towers would be fantastic during black/brown outs. Several years ago, my neighborhood experienced a week long black out, and while my home had power restored in 24 hours, there was no internet/cable til the rest of the neighborhood got power back.
Given that the launch of the prototype satellites has been delayed yet again, perhaps it isn't yet time to continuously promote the product on your channel.
Would there be an app you could use to get the over there TV on your phone or tablet? Like would there be a general TV tuner app? That would be really neat. Cuz I use an Android phone an Android tablet and so on.
Tubi app hasn't work on Roku for me last few times i tried it in the last week or so.... Rarely seen value in it anyways so feel free to charge i won't be paying them! :)
6:45 paramount owns the copyright so if I was MAX, I'd keep quiet and accept what's given. Paramount could stop allowing MAX to show their content. If they do that, paramount should tell them "screw you guys. I'm going home" 😂😂😂 11:35 the Disney plus app plays on my cube until there's a commercial. Then it freezes and doesn't want to play any further. If they want to make money, make the app work
It will take a good while for Amazon to get 3000 satellites in orbit. Right now, they don't even have a ride. ULA's Vulcan\Centaur's first test flight likely won't happen until very late this year if not Q1 of 2024. Arianespace just launched their last Ariane 5 vehicle and the follow-on Ariane 6 probably won't be flying till 2024. Blue Origin hasn't even shown a New Glenn launch vehicle yet and it may remain vaporware for many more years. Lofting 3000 Project Kuiper satellites on these non-reusable launch vehicles won't be cheap. I don't see how they are going to effectively compete with Starlink. And the 500-lb. gorilla in the room will be the availability and ease of installation - and the reliability - for their ground stations (and what they will cost consumers). SpaceX's Starlink is prohibitively expensive compared to even shitty Spectrum at $80/month. T-Mobile and Verizon both offer cellular 5G wireless Internet for just $50/month in many markets and hopefully will be expanding soon. (I sure wish they were in my area of NC). Starlink and Kuiper satellite Internet is mainly an expensive solution for those well out in the boonies or those with more dollars than sense, who just want to be on the bleeding edge. Satellite based Internet will mainly be useful for serving countries that don't have a good, wired infrastructure already - unless they can one day become cost competitive with the likes of Comcast, Spectrum, and other snakes.
Price hike from Disney. When my deal is up Disney may loose me. I'm surprised that there not making a profit. I know thing's go up it's just thing's either price gouging any money you have or get doesn't keep up. Do think CEOs take an actual price cut? Not just a suspension or a back door deal. It doesn't do good when a CEO fails he still gets paid the same amount or a parachute deal. I know you own your own company. Frankly I rely on the on the free apps. If I have to watch commercials so be it. I remember a time when there were so many channels and having to sit through commercials.
Really?? You think they make money on chump change for disney plus. Disney plus and all espn channels together are a $50/mo service in order to be profitable.
It doesn`t surprise Disney streaming is not profitable. Parents are concerned about them indoctrinating their children. Even their theme parks are losing money.
South Park can go away permanently. Also, sure would be nice to have 5G where I live. It's 90 miles south of me and 75 miles north of me, and I live in a 125,000 metro area.
It's not a matter of if they can, it's the backlash that will happen if they do. ESPN and cable TV are joined at the hip like no other. They will not take it well if Disney goes looking for some action on the side. Between cable subscriptions dropping by 20% or more within 6 months (just my guess), and the industry likely going scorched earth on what's left of Disney properties on their platforms, where would that leave Disney's cable TV revenue? Cut in half? Does Disney really want to get in that battle? Is their app going to make up for that lost revenue? What would all the contracts that ESPN has signed with various sports leagues have to say about engaging in a death match with cable TV? From what little info is out there on potential pricing for an ESPN app from the analysts and 'experts,' it's a lot more than $22.
They are also encrypting the signal to where you got to have a special chip and your receiver to record and play it back I think they are thinking about charging for over the air signals before it's over with
"Tubi is 100%free and will remain 100% free!" Yeh, well.... once upon a time, not so many years ago, there was a dial-up internet provider named "NetZero" who was 100%free internet, and they advertised that they would always be free... forever... today, they still exist, but their dialup access is gone, and guess what.... they aren't free anymore.... So..... i definitely wouldn't hold your breath or put any money on that promise that they will remain free, short-term or long-term.

Thanks for the content. Is it possible to include timestamps since you cover a lot of topics in each video?
There is another notable possiblity of off grid 5G. This would make placing towers in remote locales without electrical infrastructure a reality.
So will we need newer TVs or other devices to receive the 5G channels?🤔 Just curious.

Perhaps Disney should try producing quality content that is not 'reimagined' to meet their agenda.
If Disney learned to produce content that people actually enjoyed watching it might go a long way towards profitability.
And stop with the diversity and inclusion garbage.

What if it's cloudy ☁️
Amazon has come a long way away
Solar powered 5G towers would be fantastic during black/brown outs. Several years ago, my neighborhood experienced a week long black out, and while my home had power restored in 24 hours, there was no internet/cable til the rest of the neighborhood got power back.
Free internet is a lot different than a free streaming service. I wouldn't want free internet - it would be slow and crappy.
Hdhomerun with a Plex Pass account.
Tubi app hasn't work on Roku for me last few times i tried it in the last week or so.... Rarely seen value in it anyways so feel free to charge i won't be paying them! :)
If your Roku is older the Tubi app might no longer be supported.
My older Panasonic Smart TV stopped supporting Hulu a couple of years ago. It happens. I bought a Fire Cube, and now can get everything.
Sorry .Did you try clearing the cache? If that does not work.Maybe uninstall and reinstall it?
@@rickygonzalez2519 sadly i just bought a brand new roku due to youtube locking up and my new one still wouldn't load Tubi......
6:45 paramount owns the copyright so if I was MAX, I'd keep quiet and accept what's given. Paramount could stop allowing MAX to show their content. If they do that, paramount should tell them "screw you guys. I'm going home" 😂😂😂
11:35 the Disney plus app plays on my cube until there's a commercial.
Disney plus and all espn channels together are a $50/mo service in order to be profitable.
probably a competitor put that rumor out about tubi
crazy that bezos sat internet is gonna cost 10x more than starlink to get all the sat in orbit.
ESPN app $22 dollars need it now what the problem Disney
Because it takes time to do one.Doesn’t happen overnight.
No one NEEDS ESPN. It's a want.
Well its what $45/mo with sling orange
Just one channels for $22 dollars next year about this time
Solar powered 5G! Wooohoo!
Why don't they just use what's already up there and save the money from building and launching lol
Do some research. anything that is unused up there was designed with circuits that are now 20 years old and in the wrong orbit.
They are also encrypting the signal to where you got to have a special chip and your receiver to record and play it back I think they are thinking about charging for over the air signals before it's over with
Same stuff every day. Getting old.if your woke you will never be profitable.
It shows you don’t care about anything
@robertmustain5951 He's right. Go woke, go broke.
"Tubi is 100%free and will remain 100% free!"
Yeh, well.... once upon a time, not so many years ago, there was a dial-up internet provider named "NetZero" who was 100%free internet, and they advertised that they would always be free... forever... today, they still exist, but their dialup access is gone, and guess what.... they aren't free anymore.... So..... i definitely wouldn't hold your breath or put any money on that promise that they will remain free, short-term or long-term.
It’s called Tubi not Tubie
True ,you never really know .
