- JUST WHAT I NEEDED:
i don't mind you coming here
wasting all my time
'cause when you're standing oh so near
i kinda lose my mind
it's not the perfume that you wear
it's not the ribbons in your hair
i don't mind you coming here
and wasting all my time
i don't mind you hanging out
and talking in your sleep
it doesn't matter where you've been
as long as it was deep
you always knew to wear it well
you look so fancy i can tell
i don't mind you hanging out
and talking in your sleep
i guess you're just what i needed
i needed someone to feed
i guess you're just what i needed
i needed someone to bleed Видеоклипы
My mom still tells the story about how my uncle (her older brother) sat up in the middle of his sleep and said "I don't mind you coming here and wasting all my time" then falling dead asleep after he had been out all night at a concert.
Favorite comment on this video lol, love it
I don’t mind you comin’ here
And talking in your sleep......
Guess he took those lyrics to heart!
My son was out all night
I went to his room he was out.
I said
You are a real nowhere man ..
laying in your nowhere land..blah blah
He opened his eyes and turned his gaze to me
and croaked , “isn’t he a bit like you and me?”
It was a Freudian slip
I saw them in Denver. Benjamin Orr was incredible. I'm going to sing this on an album I'm getting ready to record. Love it. Used to play it in my live show. Grew up on it.
Hearing Ben Orr's voice on this track was just what I needed. Ben, you are missed.
This song is just what I needed.

I'm 43 and when I was a kid in the 90's I used to ride in the truck with my dad and he would bump this album I'm still bumping this in 2024 much luv and respect 🙏
Word! Me too. Listening to Def Leopord tapes too. 😂😂
This really is a wonderfull piece of music, still love it since i heard it for the first time in 1978..this was their best album, should have been much more famous in europe..such a shame it wasnt..Just what i needed, All mixed up, great songs..
The "time...time" bit is such a flex from a great band and I live for it. I like to imagine that's something they came up with for a band competition in high school.
Way ahead of its time, I wouldn't believe that this song is from 1978..
I know, it sounds like it could be a Sea Girls song
@@ESCMaia yes
It's just really good classic rock. It's timeless
@@marcusfarren7047 Yes it's the start of new wave too
This song is like a template for modern “Easycore” bands. It has Palm muted verses, synth, and gang vocals. Also catchy af. SOOO AHEAD OF ITS TIME. It honestly sounds like a song from late 00s
I remember my dad listening to this song in the garage all the time I just wish I could go back.I miss you dad🕊
One of the things that keep me going is exactly what you wrote; I hope my little boy will think exactly the same thign, when he's a grown man and I'm not here anymore, so he'll have music to remember me by.

One of the greatest rock songs ever written.
Hi I recommend a song called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
Totally ‘80s (OK, late ‘70’s!), completely entrancing and never gets old. A true classic.
I've been hooked to it since it came out. Not a month goes by without me listening to it
It stands the test of time. 😊
It is
These Cars are awesome !
The intro to this song is so badass especially when the drums come in.
i was just thinking that, that first drum kind of roll.....so awesome
And then the bass makes my pee pee tingle.
Crazy Benjamin Orr wrote their best song ☠️
@@ericsnyder6837 The crazy thing is David Robinson leaves out that drum roll every time he plays this after this studio version. It blows my mind cause that's what hooked me on the Cars when it was released.
@@Swazified Did he? I thought Ric wrote this and asked Ben to sing it.
Incredibly tasteful guitar playing.
I guess you could say it's just what you needed
No doubt about it

When a song that you have heard thousands of times can still give you the chills and make you sing along at the top of your lungs you know it's both epic and timeless!! It's just what I needed!!
This reminds of my first boyfriend
Yes
Exactly. This is one of those songs.
or, and just please hear this ...
hear meh, you have had too much to drink lol. Me too :)
This song is rooted in a very specific point in time. It is not timeless. It is the opposite of timeless.
This band was so popular when I was in high-school, on Friday nights after the football game we would cruise main street with friends and among other very popular music at that time you heard a lot of The Cars coming out of people's cars...What a time to be a teenager, Nothing but love ❤️
Your so right ! The late 70's & the 80's truly were a great time to be a teenager , with no major responsibilities , just partying with so many great friends that I still have today....
I feel you but this was a private room album by yourself or with the girl you loved for me . The car blasting cruiser was the follow up , the Candy O album .
ya' mean you don't like RAP!!! Ha ha ha ha ha trash "mucic"!!!!!!-
My dad grew was in high school in socal in the 80s, he told me a saying him and his friends had: “There’s music, and then there’s The Cars.”
You said it! I graduated HS in 1983 which was a perfect age to experience the best of both eras. Right around 1990 it seemed like someone turned off the light switch on the music we loved, just bad timing I suppose, bands can’t stay together forever but, it was AMAZING!! Now my daughters are loving the same music I grew up with, I wish they could’ve experienced a Friday night down cruising main on a summers evening.
The left-handed lead guitarist, Eliot Easton, has really flown under the radar forever. He is one of the best guitarists there's ever been. Such a clever guitarists. With headphone, you can hear layers of his geniuses in every note. His leads sound simple until you learn to play them. Great stuff.
Agreed! I learned it for my cover band, that last phrase of the solo is tough
True genius
All great musicians, but yes, he is not given the credit he deserves.
He certainly has a unique style. Wonder what he's up to nowadays since The Cars are no more.
Agreed! I have said this kind of thing to people for years. Easton is distinctive and awesome.
I've been unwell for over 2 years with an illness that apparently has been unable to diagnose. My entire life is upside down and very limited. Thank God for The Cars ... as ridiculous as it may sound. They have kept me from slipping into insane and kept me positive. Have been a fan from the instant I heard them on the radio !!! And never have stopped playing their music. I wish Ben was still with us so I could thank him for keeping me going ♥️
I hope that you are doing better.
Yeah
Get well soon Cassandra.x
Thank you everyone. So kind 👍🎶🎶🎶
I hope you get a diagnosis...don't give up! With me, it took almost dying, and a cortisol test to find that it was Addison's Disease (adrenals). I'm OK now. Get a second, third opinion if you can. Good luck!
Just a great pop song. Love it.

Nostalgic! Back in 79 when a girl named Tess hated this song. 50 years later she's still my wifey ahaha

I'm spaniard, 58 y.o. and when I was a student pilot I used to play this song in my "walkman" after a nice & smooth landing. I don't know why.
After more than 30 years flying all around the world I still do it sometime . . . and even now I don't know why.
Funny how the Cars are considered a quintessential 80’s band , yet so much of their best songs were written in the 70’s !!!
Same could be said of both Dire Straits and The Police.
U got that right Jason and roger
Yep, they were 1978 and 1979. Candy-o I need you so.
@@jasonnstegall Blondie, too.
The 80s really started in the late 70s, if you consider some of the New Wave bands from then. "Cars" by Gary Numan can be considered the first New Wave song, and that came out I think in 78 or 79.
Rest in Peace, Ric Ocasek!! At least you get to see Benjamin again!!!
Just heard too flew to this song
Yup. Sucks. Very sad news :(.
Yesterday was listening to Eddie Money remembering him, and then 4 hours ago I heard The Cars in the car, and said I should listen to some cars, not knowing, then I heard. Fuckin trippy man. Fuck.
Sad news from 2019 worst year for lives
Cheers. mate. That's why I showed up
I may not have been born in the 70s or the 80s or even the 90s but I still listen to these songs even though I am from the 2000s. They make music differently these days and what they did before, and yet I am still listening to these songs because of how good they are.

Another 70s-80s band that sounded like NO one else. Every member a true talent, and if you were lucky enough to be around when that debut album dropped, you remember how amazing it all was. Every. Track. Wonderful music.
they sound soo modern in those time it must be pretty revolutinery
probably high as f and speading STIs too
One of the tightest drummers ever to sit their ass down behind a kit
Yeah I get it. I was totally there, just graduating from high school, MTV debute era.
BT Design I was majoring in “cafeteria” @ Massasoit Community Collage in 1977-78 and one night Busch Beer staged a promotional concert there 50cents to see three bands about a buck a beer ... by the time the third band came up I was basically shit faced and all danced out ... then something virtually out of the blue happened ... The Cars came on ... no stage ... right on the floor directly in front of me were the strangest bunch of blokes I had ever seen with the weirdest set up to boot ... I had not a clue who they were but as a result of WBCN Charles Laqadera having been playing all the demos from this album relentlessly for probably a solid year before it was released which was unheard of then and still is now ... I knew every freakin song ... which required me to sober up right quick as I knew straight away I was witnessing musical history from the very first note played and seeing this skinny as a rail tall dude in a black leather and black shades and pointy boots shimmy and slide to a type of music previously unheard of . Mind blown ... they played every track from the album which was to debut with a few weeks after that . Few things musically ever topped that a case in point was seeing Floyd perform Dark Side in quad sound cover to cover a few years before . Not to be repeated ever .
I love the echoed “just what I needed “. Just a great great song 🎶.
R.I.P Ric Ocasek...A rock legend of my era
Just found out … one of the first albums I bought....
@Crazy Train Dude he played in the band . Doesn't matter . Let us mourn on peace .

I fell in love with that smooth Moog sound when I was just a kid. I was obsessed with New Wave as a teenager. I used to listen to this song and other Cars hits on my portable cd player, every day, when I was 14-16. Now I'm 38 and coming back for more. So many great memories. This song still makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
Are you me?
Love this song, it always reminds of the days when I encountered the pretty girls in my neighborhood as a boy. Sigh! I wish I was a kid again.
I’m 36 and have a similar experience, except with both new wave and classic rock. Currently there’s at least synthwave, retro wave and vaporwave to satiate the craving. But nothing beats the real deal. And there’s really only a couple of current bands that even attempt the classic rock sound.
I live that noise to I need more of it😭😭
The synth used in this song was actually a Minikorg, not a Moog!
These guys played at my high school a month before this album was released. Our student body at the private school I went to had met a fundraising goal for an annual raffle and the administration said they'd get us a concert since we met our goal. One of the English teachers was hooked into the Boston club and entertainment scene and he booked us J. Geils. The Cars were the warm up band. The production company crammed a rock concert stage into our gym. I can't recall what the tickets cost, but they were pretty steep. Just the same, we couldn't believe it: Xaverian Brother's High School, March, 1978. 'So long ago now.

That's Maxanne Sartori in the photo. She's a Boston DJ who played The Cars demo tapes on the air!!! When I first looked at the photo I thought she was wearing a hat but at a closer look, it's her arm across her forehead. It would have been so much cooler if it were a hat... but that's just me. RIP Benjamin Orr! He was a great singer and amazing musician. aside from being really good looking , I'm glad to hear from people that knew him and met him attest to the fact that he was genuinely an awesome person as well. the tracks that he sang for the Cars ("Just What I needed", "Drive,""All Mixed Up","bye bye love","let's go", "Candy O", "Moving in Stereo" and others) are my favorites!

What a thumping track this is! I play their greatest hits album almost every day just because I enjoy mixing it all up (there's a pun in there somewhere). I remember when this album first came out in the UK. I think the biggest hit was "My Best Friend's Girl" (in the UK). I was chucked in a boarding school for years (until I was expelled), and this was always on the turntable. Joe Jackson's "I'm The Man" was the other I remember. Boarding school made music extremely important because it gave you an outlet. This album was perfect!
The Cars one the greatest bands ever. I don't mind hanging out listening to great songs. Just what I needed.

Rick Beato did a what makes this song great episode on this song. It's sounds simple, but really, it's loaded with layers of all the instruments. Hearing each instrument isolated playing parts that sound so different , and then how it all works together is amazing. The arrangement is a masterpiece. I was in high school when this song came out, I've heard it a million times. And never noticed in one section of the song that the snair drum switches from the third beat to the first beat. I'm 28 y/o from a distant country. I have been watching Rick Beato's videos and getting into 70s, 80s, 90s American classics. Thanks Rick for reviving these masterpieces.
The simplicity blows my mind. So well put together and the guitar/keyboard harmonies. Add the soul and passion; All they needed was a few chords. Much like a lot of their songs. Most of the good 70/80,s bands for that matter. They don’t make them like they used to.
Dude, you nailed it!! Music (I use the term music loosely) today is just plain sad. Down load you some beat and there ya go. Like anyone is going to take the time to learn an instrument that is sad too.
