Key advice for boarders. Don’t be afraid to beat them up with your crew. Majority of species evenly fight each other in combat and the mantis advantage isn’t even that drastic. If they get on board 4v2 or 3v2 and just cycle who gets hit appropriately. It’s nice and easy.
very late but mantis advantage is fucking insane, especially when they have hidden crew damage bonuses, if you mess up the timing of crew movement or decide to fight them evenly outside of the medbay you're so unbelievably destroyed if they manage to hit your crew mates with any ship damage. a 3 on 3 fight with full mantises can solo 3 rockmen easily. I've had so many normal games where i had a chance against flagship just get demolished by a 4 man mantis boarding party with bad ship battle RNG.
sometimes i watch nl play sporcle and i’m like “man nl is pretty smart huh” then i watch him play ftl and i’m like “intelligence do be manifesting in different forms”
I had a God run going the other day until I warped into an asteroid field with the random event that removes shields against a drone with 2...TWO!!! Mark II combat drones.
I think FTL was the first series I started watching on this channel about 7 years ago. It's been a wonderful experience watching everything here and on twitch ever since. Thanks for this trip down memory lane and for reigniting my interest in this game!
Never would have thought this entire video would be a single run... I really did forget how long FTL winning potential runs were. It's coming back to me now, back then when a video was like 30 minutes longer than normal you knew it was a won run or at least a flagship potential run

Dude, MALFs saga was short but intense. First he received mortal wounds on a mission so he had to be turned into an android. However, he caught an unknown virus in another expedition. Unexpectedly, he became one with the virus an received god-like powers only to die in the next combat at the hands of two bloodthirsty mantis attacking the ship.
I think FTL might be in my top 5 favourite games of all time, i dont recall if ive seen you do a series on it before, probably have and ive just forgotten, but man am i pogged to see this

FTL Games made 'Sundog: A Frozen Legacy' back in the 80's -- It looked a lot like this, with top-down views of the ships, etc. I wonder if any of the developer team is from back then, or if they're just fans of the game. They also made OIDS... That one would be worth revisiting too.

The moment he started auto-firing the chain laser, I knew we were in for a great ride. Noone is perfect, for sure (RIP Virus) but NL clearly has some muscle memory on playing FTL.
Actionable advice, vent the whole ship except the medbay and cockpit. Move your three crew to the medbay. The mantis will probably go to the medbay as its closer than the cockpit. Dead mantis.
38:20 the 2 things I think you could have done here, both with the doors. 1 don't remove a crewmember from the doors. 2 Venting is a puzzle at times, even with out sensors you can tell where the enemy is if you look at your systems display you will see a red fist, that will tell you what room the enemy crew are in. 2a You need to set up as many doors between your crew and them as you can, making sure there is no O2 on either side of the closed door. This means when the enemy crew breaks down the first door they are still in a room without O2. So in your video they were in engines room, vent the aft room and engine room trapping the mantis there, open a path to the vacuum along the top through weapons and o2 so when they break down that door in engines they are still in a vacuum, as soon as you think they are in the next room close the door just ahead of them.
