    So, about the SKROM stuff . . . in 2015, Ali Express was just starting to become mainstream in retro gaming as a source for bootleg games. Some people were still re-flashing donor carts to produce new games rather than just finding someone in China to work with using new parts.

    • @SparkY0
      @SparkY0  6 месяцев назад +2

      Were many people reselling donor carts with new roms, or was this mostly something people did at home?

    • @spittertron4920
      @spittertron4920 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@SparkY0 Both, really. There was also a third category of people offering re-flashing services to customers who supplied the correct donor.

    This is the most accurate representation of Iowa I have ever seen. The NFT industry here is real, and so many farmers are in it. Since the farmers get paid to NOT grow anything, they figure "hey, I may as well mint some NFT's in the barn" and boy howdy do they! You can always tell who the NFT minters are because they are at the Tractor Supply buying NFT materials in bulk, and their kids always have colds so are in constant need of decongestants. You make more money minting NFT's than growing corn anyway, particularly since most of the farmers here suck at actually farming and are terrible land stewards who can longer actually grow anything on their nutrient depleted dirt.

      The song as I put it in the NES is Digifunk by Divkid from the youtube audio library. Then the game starts playing an 8 bit version of One More Time by daft punk.

      Apparently you can't say 'meth' on RUclips without messing up the algorithm/monetization, so he just replaced it with 'NFTs' instead.

    Pretty good video but I feel like the complaining is a bit unwarranted considering that the game is clearly meant to just be a novelty joke.
    Especially the seizure comments about the creator wanting to "intentionally cause seizures". Kind of comes off as a bit of pearl clutching.
    Though, I suppose some of the novelty of it is worn from it being from 2015. If the game was released in the late 2000s it'd be way more impressive that it's actually in a cartridge that works on the NES at all. Overall fine video though, I appreciate the effort that went into combining a game review format with a "open up the cartridge and go over what's inside" format.

      I know 2015 is a little late to have been riding the fad of anonymous kiddos making flashing troll posts everywhere to try and cause seizures for 'teh lulz', but clearly an impressive amount of work went into this game. It probably took a long time to finish, and it definitely has the vibe of something that originated from that era of 4chan. But if you have a better idea why those rooms are in this game, if not as a joke, I would love to hear it.
      But I didn't lay into the seizures out of pearl clutching, but out of personal disappointment. When I've tried to stream the game while capturing footage (granted, not to many people) enough viewers voiced epilepsy concerns and/or dropped off that I understood I would need to edit around these rooms and give adequate warning to viewers, who might also play the game. The game itself gives no warning. It instead uses that space to give players a real-looking recipe for biker crank.
      I want people to understand these rooms are a significant part of the game without just suddenly cutting to full screen footage like it's no big deal, which would just cause the problem I'm trying to prevent.
      Personally I'm usually ambivalent to this kind of thing. I don't think reasonable people need to be warned that a video about DOOM is going to have flashing guns and gore splatter. But people don't expect a Zelda-type game to randomly flash 1/10 rooms for no reason.
      So where the disappointment comes in is that behind the jokes, an impressive amount of work went into a fleshed-out game that does some unique things that recapture the sense of exploration and discovery of playing that original Zelda. But the presentation of that content means that streaming or a full play through is off the table as I am not a 14 year old troll trying to give people seizures for fun. Also, the topic of the game is not ad-friendly. I have no advertisers nor even basic channel monetization enabled, but that means this video would have been algorithmically killed by this platform, and probably every platform.
      I make videos because I get excited to share them with people. Still, it would have been a complete waste of roughly 100 hours of my time to put together a version of this video to just tell it the way it is - which would have been both easier to make and more entertaining to watch.
      I believe that annoying self-censoring made the difference between 7,000 people occasionally being able to find this video over a couple years and 70 views total, forever (most of which would have involved me manually pulling up the video and begging people I know to watch it). Its lame, but that difference matters to me.
