Great way to stop a lot of the cold air coming in, windows are always a huge problem with big old buildings, it’s one of the reasons we only got a small chateau 😅❤❤
It works ❤. You will see. 😊. Now….your chateau is not a tiny house….. just reminding you of your surrender situation. We are so happy that we all became friends. Love from Colombe 😊😊😊😊
Being frugal is a positive trait, never negative. I admire you for keeping your windows. They look wonderful and as the saying goes, if it ain't broke ...... don't fix it.
Doing the best with what you have is a great way to continue with many tasks. We don't always need new. I love to be frugal, it has positive outcomes on the wallet! Big hugs - have a great week ahead.
Great idea for the windows! I’m sure that has to help a lot. Good luck with the repair plans. I’m in the same repair (not replace) situation with my windows, slowly getting to each one. Mine are solid oak too. Luckily they’re only 100 years old and were mostly well maintained, so I can do the repairs myself. My house is quite small, but I have 35 windows! (The big front porch has 15 of those windows.) Well, if one counts winter storm windows separately, that’s… 15 + 8 = 23 more. 🤣🤦♀️ Lots of natural light though. And storm windows means I effectively have double-glazing… just with a 5” gap. 😉 At the antique fair, I saw a dining room table do like mine I did a double-take! Not exactly, but very similar. But I know it’s not for you - wrong style. But it’s fun to see something so like mine over in France. 😁
It was a great moment when we realised that our windows are old but in amazing shape. The insulation make a huge difference. We’d have to replace 56 windows……. We’d have to win the lottery 😂😂😂😂😂. Let us know how your restoration goes. Hugs and love from Colombe
Just repairing the windows to mitigate the air infiltration will dramatically improve the heating of your home. Good move! And, I am pollarding my mulberry tree this week. Great minds think alike. Moving forward in the move to Narbonne in 2025. So excited to have 3 years of research and planning coming into being.
Hello from Montreal Canada. I always enjoy your videos. They are so down to normality of life. And I like you attitude towards windows repairs. If something is not broken completely, why not to simply fix it instead of replacing. Happy New Year. All the best to you and successful year to your channel.😊
The window insulation is a grand idea as a temporary measure to keep out the cold weather. The antique show looked very nice. Take care my friends, Ralph Rocchiccioli
Brcontes are fun, and you did find some neat things. So, it was an added bonus to a lovely outing. Good luck with the windows. Glad you can repair rather than replace.
Work never ends in a chateau. Hopefully, it will be noticeably warmer now in those rooms. Tree trimming is also a necessity and it is great that you note when the locals do it and can follow suit in the same. An ounce of prevention per se goes a long way! Lovely purchases at the antiqite`.❤
If that works for the draught around the windows that’s great. I couldn’t believe the price of new windows for the Chateau. Outrageous. I always love getting a pe k of the Brocantes; etc over there in France there are some absolute treasures. Love that jug ❤
Thank you. The insulation is cheap and works amazingly. The jug is sooooooo pretty. The windows would be €8000 each….. we have 38 plus the next wing…….. 😮😮😮😮😮. Hope we will have a fun Brocante early February. ❤❤❤
I don't think that you are ever finished with repair work in home ownership. But, a château is definitely a lifetime commitment. You've found a good solution for temporarily insulating your drafty windows until you can implement a more permanent repair. Trim a tree... I prefer decorating a Christmas tree myself rather than all that hard yard work... but you did say Christmas was over 😅.😂 I always enjoy seeing you enjoy the company of Tony and Jane. You have become epic friends!
Dear Edward. We will never be done. Especially thinking about our outbuildings….. 😮and 😮😮😮temporary insulation. It works amazingly well. We saw Tony and Jane 5 out of 7 days….. and we love keeping company 😊❤😊
Glad you enjoyed the holiday, now back to work. I hope your insulating the windows keeps you all nice and toasty. Loved seeing all the supervisors 🦮 too. Till next time hugs and stay well.
Dear Ina. The insulation made such a huge difference. I’m so grateful for the tip. Buying expensive foam adhesive things….. that didn’t work…… 😮. And now having no more draft! I love it. And the supervisors deserve all the credit. 😊😂. Love from Colombe
Glad you enjoyed Christmas and were able to reward yourselves with an antique fair for the work with the trees and windows. Love your purchases, particularly the pitcher and vases. Have a wonderful New Year! ❤️❤️🐕🐈🥳🥳
Thank you so much for sharing your busy life with us. I really enjoy seeing how you live your life. The windows must be frustrating at times although they do look like they're in great condition. It makes me wonder if the windows just fit better when they were new, which I suppose was the case (sands shift with age) and I suppose if one has a limitless amount of wood from one's acres of land and servants to carry it in and build fires the rest is sort of immaterial. I know, as do you, that in the British Isles they use long narrow pillows to block air from coming in under doors. I wonder if there were other methods for blocking cold winter air movement. The trip to the market was fun, as always. The silver pitcher has beautiful lines. You have a great eye Patrick. Stuart, it looks like you were ready to breathe a sigh of relief and then, at the last minute... BOOM! (as Stephanie says) Enjoy! I do believe you live easily with each other, you're both such great hosts. Art makes life worth living. I always consider amortization.
Thank you for being with us ❤❤❤. The insulation makes a huge difference. Amazing. They did fit once….. and we hope they will again. Having servants……. OK, it would be easier and that’s how Reese estates work. We used to call them sausages……. Blocking drafts 😂😂😂😂 Indeed, we are happy here. Hugs from Colombe 😊
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I will look up Reese estates! thanks for diligently responding to my rambling Patrick!! You and Stuart are amazing chateau guardians!!😍😍
Hi Honey Bunnies, I too had my huge pin oak tree trimmed back, Sooooo glad I did it had regrown beautifully, however in May I had a tornado go right over my block, while he was up in the bucket he trimmed a branch a huge widow maker branch that was hidden in the foliage and down it came it surprised him and me thank God I was far away, but had the neighbors his truck or his child’s truck been there and a strong wind had gone by could’ve nailed them. Some reason the good Lord gives you a hidden message and and prompted I asked, my tree guy to trim this year I guess that was the reason so they do grow back. Cuddles to the fir babies and hugs to you two. For Donna go chiefs!❤
Isn’t that the truth! Sometimes the good lord gives us an intuition….. better listen to it. So glad the tornado didn’t do horrible damage to you. Love from Colombe ❤

I saw you up, in the windows and thought: 'Who cares, as long as it is warm inside'. The epic battle with the little chainsaw happened. I am looking for such a thing! You did demonstrate it perfectly. Little chainsaw it is, I need it electric. Thanks for the idea.
Good to see your smiling faces again. I took a break from social media in December. Too busy! I look forward to catching up with you both and look forward to seeing all your new adventures in 2025. ❤️

Who would have thought to insulate windows in such a way, very clever. I wonder was Jane sparkling more than usual, as you know she has a beautiful new kitchen, that she is very proud of. So glad you like the fudge. I’ll double the Irish Cream….. I think. 😊😮. I’m so glad we got the input for the insulation….. love it. Jane in her new kitchen was truly sparkling. It’s amazing ❤❤❤❤. Hugs
Grate job on the windows guys. Loved the outing as well. Such lovely countryside in any weather I feel. Ahh Christmas is over and soi is the bulk pf the entertaining... a rest for us all now. 😘😘
Hugs darling. Thank you. And the fireplaces….. if we want it warm…. We have it. 😊. We are back to work and wish you’d be here to cheer us on. 😊😊❤❤😊😊. We are still entertaining throughout January and may have another big event……. Ha. You thought we’d become lazy 😂😂😂. Kidding. Love from Colombe
TinTin!!! Oh, I loved reading TinTin as a kid. And the little elephant, too, can't remember his name at the moment. You know, of all the brocantes you've been to this year, this has to be your finest. I'd have remortaged my land for the many things I saw there. Ahhhh, to be 40 years younger and living in France still.
I too loved TinTin….. what fun. This was a wonderful antiques show. There were items we absolutely loved. I’d love to be 20 years younger myself. Late 30s would help 😂😂😂😂. Love and hugs
Hi sweeties. I'm just home after a fun night. I hope filling the gaps will help against the draft. I think it's the right time to trim back the maple trees. Love the purchases you made. The vases will look beautiful against the light blue wall. Now it's time to take down the Christmas decorations. In the Netherlands, it's tradition to remove the tree after the 6th of January. My balcony lights will also be removed them. I hope you're doing something fun on New Year's Eve. Our Salsa group will dance into New Year💃💃. Have a great weekend. Hugs and kisses also for the furries and Figaro. 🥰🥰😘🐕🐈
Hi darling. Glad you had fun. The rooms are so much warmer. It is amazing. Ohhhh you will have a wonderful dance into 2025. Here we take the decorations down by January 12. No idea why 😂😂😂😂. But we will start soon with some rooms. New Year’s Eve Florence is here. She sends her regards as do Tony and Jane. Love you ❤❤❤❤.
I think cutting your trees back that way is called pollarding or coppicing which I think is originally a firewood management practice. I could very well be wrong. Anyway just a bit of quite likely use less bit of trivia
It’s always very satisfying watching others work in their gardens - especially when I’m inside in the warmth 😂. As always, enjoyed going around the antiques fair with you. The jug was a good buy and will add even more elegance to your table. 😊
Hello my Darling Stuart and Patrick , sorry I missed the live vlog but we have rented an air bnb cottage on the coast off the west coast of Ireland for a week. I can’t tell you what the view is like as it’s pitch black but we can hear the waves crashing over the rocks( wonderful). I needed this wee break. Stuart you always manage to match the right piece of music to every scene. I did love Toreador for Patrick cutting the trees. My favourite is The Parisian Cafe, it just reminds me of sitting outside one in Paris many years ago just people watching. I do hope that all the work you put in to stop the draughts will make a huge difference . I’ve seen it done successfully on outdoor cabins in sub zero temperatures in these Alaska in the wild vlogs. Wishing you both a very Happy and healthy New year. Hugs from me.🥰🇨🇮🥃 P.S. Patrick I have sent you a message. 😘
Hello sweet lady. Enjoy your time off. I have Stuart back. Hurrah. You deserve a break. The insulation makes an amazing difference. We are both exhausted see you on New Year’s Day ❤❤❤. Be kind to yourself. We love you. 😊
Again I just relish going to the wonderful Anti quite Markets and shops. Your excellent filming is allowing me to really enjoy and even pause. When I see something I would llove.. Enjoyable. Window glad you can fix them, such a headache they are, costly!
What a great idea you using insulation, I hope it helps and does not get wet and trap the water so the window panels rot fingers crossed it doesn't, great job on the tree's too.I see you guy's got some bargains once again love the vases and can you believe it candle stick for one euro fantastic 😍 take care and see you both next time all the best for 2025 and more 🎉💕🌼🤗
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I was looking for a heart to put on your comment but it did not appear. Something wrong with my cellphone. Actually we are going through a DIY installing a door in the pantry. See you soon
I believe your newest acquisition is/was properly called a ewer, at least in English. I only learned that word when I dug part of one up on an excavation, and as it's a word that is fading from use, I like to throw it about whenever possible! Hahahaha!
In French it is a carafe and as far as I know it is a decanter. However….. there are multiple nouns that fit. I love your input. There is another term. Love it 🥰
Hoping that material clading will now, keep the draft out, of the chateau, until the windows are repaired. Beaut work Patrick, trimming the maple trees. The tool you were using, looked brilliant, to do that job well. I love visiting Salon antiques in France via vlogs, the silver port wine pitcher was a wonderful find. The delft vases are lovely too and a candle stick holder for a dollar Wow.
While you were shopping, I had to stop on the mantle clock to see if the make was 'BOXELL Brighton' not that I could afford another one, but... I love the Delph Vases, they are beautiful, the silver pitcher is a nice addition. We have casement windows, that are over 100 yrs old upstairs. Because they are two windows, an inside window and then either screen or storm windows for the outside, three of the storm windows are missing, other than that they are really good. We used magnetic strips on the screen wood frames and on plexiglass to act as the storm window, no climbing ladders to put them up, it works really well. Could you do something similar. Build a frame attach plexiglass to it and attach that frame to the inside, using something like your shutter hold back catches on the inside? Put in place during the cold months, remove and store in the warmer weather. Jusr a thought. Our main floor windows are 1960 or 1970s replacement and they are really really drafty because they built up the original framework to fit smaller windows into the openings. We have to keep the curtains shut all winter to not lose the heat from the radiators. Like you we do not want to replace with modern plastic / vinyl frame windows, we want wood and those have to be custom made, $$$s! we do not have.. I hope the insulation works in the mean time. Oops! It is kind of long. 🙃 Ronnie in Saskatchewan
Thank you so much. The materials here for 38 windows are so expensive. But the insulation stuffing is absolutely amazing. We will get an offer to repair the windows soon. Can’t wait. Stay warm Ronnie. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the draught extruder idea! Years ago a friends Mum said she had draughty windows at University and was told to stuff newspaper in ladies tights and to close the windows with them!! Your idea feels easier…?!
THANK YOU for the Colombe Christmas card!! I love it. Seeing where the card was mailed from and Stuart's comment about temperatures, I have to wonder IF he might be in Chicago visiting his parents. Anyway....HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 to Colombe!!
Don’t you love chainsaws, I have a battery power one like the one you used. I can’t wait for spring now. Good job on those windows, keep warm and have a great weekend.
I survived Christmas but have a second one after the new year to deal with. My daughter is travel nursing in Kansas and won't have time off until then. So I get to enjoy the Christmas craziness twice! We might have snow in Colorado when she comes. Looking forward to seeing her and her husband. Hope you guys enjoy the quiet before New Years!
I think it is great that you keep the old windows, you could make xtra panels for insulation, I lived some years ago in a renovated military camp and they had windows with panels, it was great.
Happy New Year Patrick and Stewart! When I saw Patrick working with the insulation all I could think of was I hope that’s not fiberglass because that is so itchy! I have not worked with rockwool. Also, I wish I was there visiting the Salon antiquité with you! As a silver collector I loved your purchase! Is it solid silver or plate?
Well done on the pollarding of the trees, and the music edit added to the gun! When in Rome, right? 😂 Once again the shopping looks like the perfect day out. ❤
Quisiera tanto ir a los basares En Europa y encontrar artículos repletos de historia , mi país Colombia sur América y les envío un saludo lleno de mucho cariño. Mil bendiciones.Constanza Murad
Hugs. Stuart speaks English and Spanish and is now learning French. I speak German, English, French, Frisian and flat German. And a little Swedish and Afrikaans.
Will the insulation that you pushed in come out when you open the window? We fixed some old drafty double-hung windows (100+ years old). We were concerned that the painted surfaces would stick, so we glued strips of felt to one side and it worked like a charm to reduce drafts. We did this 30 years ago and they still work! ❤
Yes, of course it will come out. It is just temporary insulation for the windows over the winter. As we said, we are getting estimates on getting the windows repaired to fit properly for next year.
Great way to stop a lot of the cold air coming in, windows are always a huge problem with big old buildings, it’s one of the reasons we only got a small chateau 😅❤❤

I think cutting your trees back that way is called pollarding or coppicing which I think is originally a firewood management practice. I could very well be wrong. Anyway just a bit of quite likely use less bit of trivia
What a wonderful idea! Someone really helped y'all out! Happy New Year guys!
Great tree trimming music!!!
Of course….. Stuart is always spot on! ❤❤❤❤
Happy. Holiday. 🎄🧚♂️🧚🥂🍾
Same to you 🍾🥂🍾
It’s always very satisfying watching others work in their gardens - especially when I’m inside in the warmth 😂. As always, enjoyed going around the antiques fair with you. The jug was a good buy and will add even more elegance to your table. 😊
Hi John. I absolutely agree with you ❤. Watching others work is incredibly satisfying 😊😂😊. Sending you a big hug 😊
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 love you two to the moon and back🌙🌗❤
A Good new year🕊️🌸🍀
Happy New Year to you ❤❤❤😊
Again I just relish going to the wonderful Anti quite Markets
and shops. Your excellent filming is allowing me to really enjoy and even pause. When I see something I would llove.. Enjoyable. Window glad you can fix them, such a headache they are, costly!
I absolutely love your comment 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Merry Christmas to you both and a very happy new year.
Happy New Year to you too ❤❤❤
See you soon 🎄 😘
❤❤❤❤
🥂 Wishing you both a very happy and joyful New Year ✨❤️✨
Same to you ❤❤❤❤
No central heating in houses in rural Mexico -with big spaces under doors-so I feel your pain 🥶🥶🥶🥶
What a great idea you using insulation, I hope it helps and does not get wet and trap the water so the window panels rot fingers crossed it doesn't, great job on the tree's too.I see you guy's got some bargains once again love the vases and can you believe it candle stick for one euro fantastic 😍 take care and see you both next time all the best for 2025 and more 🎉💕🌼🤗
It is amazing! So much warmer. It won’t affect the windows because the possible moisture is not trapped. See you in 2025. Huge hugs😊
Have a lovely weekend! Xo❤❤
You too. ❤❤❤
Looking forward to Next years shopping/ DIY ‘s and all the other fun stuff 😃
Love from Colombe Lori ❤❤❤

Happy Holidays Sharon ❤❤❤
See you next week. ❤
Looking forward to seeing you ❤❤❤
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I was looking for a heart to put on your comment but it did not appear. Something wrong with my cellphone. Actually we are going through a DIY installing a door in the pantry. See you soon
I love your videos because you post often so we get interested 😊good job.
Thank you very much indeed Michael. Truly kind of you 😊😊😊😊
I wish i could see the old furniture and cabinet hardware.
It was amazing ❤❤❤❤
Enjoyed your videos all year long. Thank you for sharing your progress this year. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you. 😊
Love it 🥰
Happy Christmas 🎄 💓
❤❤❤
You can also mulch some paper with a bit of water and push it in.. They make insulation out of mulched paper here.
Have a great weekend ❤
You too ❤❤❤
Hoping that
material clading
will
now, keep the
draft out, of the chateau, until
the windows
are repaired.
Beaut work
Patrick, trimming
the maple trees.
The tool you were using, looked brilliant, to do that job well.
I love visiting Salon antiques in France
via vlogs,
the silver port wine pitcher was a wonderful find. The delft vases are lovely too and a candle stick holder for a dollar Wow.
Thank you so much. The drafts are gone. It is amazing. 😊. And now the new jobs……. It is wonderful. Love from Colombe
Im glad your channel is growing! 🎉Happy New Year 2025 🎉
❤❤❤ thank you Wanda ❤❤❤. Hugs
Thank you for the draught extruder idea! Years ago a friends Mum said she had draughty windows at University and was told to stuff newspaper in ladies tights and to close the windows with them!! Your idea feels easier…?!
😂😂😂. Both are great ideas and both work. Love your comment ❤❤❤
🥰🥰🥰🥰 Yes he was in Chicago😘
Thank you for all, your support! ❤❤❤❤
Don’t you love chainsaws, I have a battery power one like the one you used. I can’t wait for spring now. Good job on those windows, keep warm and have a great weekend.
I adore chainsaws. Like for you, it is an essential. There are so many trees who need it. Drafts are diminished…… huge hugs and wishing for spring 😊❤😊
There is never an end to the work!
No, you are right 😂😂😂 We couldn’t live without projects. Keeps us active 😊😂😊. Huge hugs
We wish you two amazing Christmasses and all that goes with it. Please enjoy every moment. Love from Colombe 😊
Pollarding the trees.
Yes. We pollard our crepe myrtles every second year.
❤❤❤
@@dotwillcoxson5352I love crepe myrtles ❤❤❤❤
I think it is great that you keep the old windows, you could make xtra panels for insulation, I lived some years ago in a renovated military camp and they had windows with panels, it was great.
I absolutely love your comment. 100% spot on. ❤❤❤😊
Hello there from America!!
Stuart just came back fro Chicago. Hugs ❤
My dad made me work with fibreglass as a child….. never again. Rock wool. Love it. It is plate. We cannot afford silver. But we love it ❤
You can safe the cutten branches for the tomato plants next summer
We have the stalks from the hazelnut shrubs. These will be kindling 😊😊😊😊. But great thinking. Hugs ❤
Well done on the pollarding of the trees, and the music edit added to the gun! When in Rome, right? 😂
Once again the shopping looks like the perfect day out. ❤
Thank you so much. Great comment. And indeed…. When in France…..😊😂😮
happy new year to you both , p.s hemp is good for insulation 😘
Indeed. This what we could get here 😊❤😊.
Many Blessings for 2025 💖🥂
Same for you Marguerite. ❤❤❤
You find wonderful fun things,do you ever get rid of things you no longer love ?
Hi Mark. Thank you. Yes we are thinking about selling a few amazing things. Great question ❤

What we do for authenticity!
Absolutely ❤❤❤
Patrick & Stuart I know you both said what languages you both speak, but I forgot. Could you be so kind as to refresh my memory. Thanks ❤
Hugs. Stuart speaks English and Spanish and is now learning French. I speak German, English, French, Frisian and flat German. And a little Swedish and Afrikaans.
@ Patrick you are lucky and smart. Both of you. ❤️

Thank you ❤❤
Just curious if you had to do it over again would you have bought a smaller chateau?
No. In fact I wish we would have bought a slightly larger one.
I agree with Stuart. ❤❤❤
❤🙂🇨🇦
❤
Thank you ❤
What kind of maples are those? Happy 2025🎉
Hi Susan. One is a green leaved and one red leaved variety. We have no idea but they have been cut like this for over 30 years. 😊
🤗🎉🎉🤗🎉🤗🎉🤗🎉🎉🤗🎉🙏🙏🙏
❤😊❤😊❤😊❤😊❤

😊😊😊😊
I guess its bye all
Bye to 2024/❤
Will the insulation that you pushed in come out when you open the window? We fixed some old drafty double-hung windows (100+ years old). We were concerned that the painted surfaces would stick, so we glued strips of felt to one side and it worked like a charm to reduce drafts. We did this 30 years ago and they still work! ❤
Yes, of course it will come out. It is just temporary insulation for the windows over the winter. As we said, we are getting estimates on getting the windows repaired to fit properly for next year.
Yes and we have a plan to fix them….. or an artisan 😊😂😊. Wish we could fix them ourselves. Great comment
Gentlemen, how could you have two whole days off? You should be ashamed of yourselves slacking like that!!! 😂
I absolutely agree with you 😂❤😂
Crack On!
Absolutely ❤❤❤❤
