A scene where Casita "appears" i missed in this video:
During "We don't talk about bruno" in the first Dolores part, Casita rises and opens a drawer chest so Dolores could stand on it, you know, that part where Dolores looks down at Mirabel saying "Do you understand?"

One of the film's artists posted early artwork on Instagram of Casita being a "bad house". Doing things that could severely hurt Mirabel to stop her from learning secrets. I got the impression Casita may have been malevolent at one point (or at least, an antagonist), but the filmmakers changed it because they wanted the house to be a safe haven.

I find it interesting how in the movie, mirabel is the one character who is most shown interacting with the house, i think this has something to do with the fact that mirabel is the one to "substitute" abuela's role in the family
This gets a bit more obvious when mirabel opens the rebuilt house and it gains it's life again, just like how it happened to abuela.
I think that scene was meant to show how mirabel is following the cicle (and that her gift is actually connected to taking care of her family and the house.)

Okay watching this sends it home for me that Casita is infused with Pedro’s spirit. The first is that right after Pedro perishes, the house comes to life by the candle, a candle that has butterflies on it. Butterflies are symbolic of many things, one being a passing of a loved one, ie Pedro. Second is how Maribel says goodmorning to Pedro’s painting/picture. We can probably assume she does that every morning, and how she talks to Casita, specifically the line “the house isn’t going to decorate itself… sorry you look great”, with how respectful she is to the house and how she treats it like family rather than a house, and how it worries when she’s about to enter Bruno’s room, shows a connection that I recognize. When my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, he moved in with me and my mom. I was never too close to him before, but when he moved in we developed a connection like Maribel and Casita have. Saying good morning, helping each other out where we can, wishing we could help the other where we couldnt, being there for him in his last moments and trying my best to keep him around. Maribel trying to save casita at the end made me think of how hard to tried to keep my grandfather living for another day. Helping my mom give him his meds, cleaning his at home hospital bed and sheets, making sure he ate and drank even tho he could barely move, trying to save the miracle of life that I wished he could keep longer, but couldn’t, because he was breaking. His body was breaking, just like casita broke and Mirabel tried so hard to keep it from doing so. I know it’s a stretch and I know it’s kinda dark and sad to connect it to my own story but the symbolism I found in these scenes between Casita and Mirabel felt too close to home to not be proof. And rereading this makes this seem messy but ah well. Also, Mirabel and miracle have the same letter except for the b and c and almost are in the same order. Interesting

    • @timy.9512
      @timy.9512 2 года назад +12

That's so beautiful! Seems like through the miracle, Pedro, in a way, got the life that he was denied back; just inside a house- he'd do anything for Alma, and nothing was too good for his family. Notice also that the look of the house demarcates the Madrigals as a rich family, if you look at historical & cultural context. Perhaps this was something that Pedro promised Alma in life, to build her such a house; through the miracle he got his wish.

@@zyrevelvrein2388 i was thinking that it's affected by both abuela and mirabel, as the house reacts to both of them. The cracks started happening way back bc of abuela, but it became more prominent after mirabel got older and couldn't contain her negative feelings anymore (with the house starting to visibly crack literally after mirabel sung Waiting on a Miracle, this was also when mirabel started realizing how flawed the family really was i think). Casita recognized abuela and mirabel as the current and future "ilaw ng tahanan" so while i think the house responds to each family memeber, it responds to those two the most
("ilaw ng tahanan" is a filipino term, not colombian, but basically translates to "light of the house", and it's a term mostly applied to the mother of the house, the one who provides the light and warmth to the family, the one who holds the family together through love and care. Mirabel isn't a mother but she's essentially filling the role of caregiver to the family's well-being, which is also abuela's original role in the family)

like in that one scene where casita's floors started breaking when she and Mirabel were fighting, was an example of abuela's emotion, since she was upset. pretty sure the animators did not want to cut out that part of Alma's "powers" or relation entirely from the plot?

The thing that kinda messed with me in this movie is that when the house is wrecked at the end, no one properly mourns Casita. Casita is a living thing, and they pretty much just died. And sure they rebuild the house, but they don't know for sure that it will bring back Casita. I don't know, it just rubs me the wrong way that they basically just lost a family member and no one really acknowledges it. Justice for Casita.

abuela: the mother goddess/founder/primordial (not saying she has powers but that's just what she represents to me)
    peppa: weather goddess
dollores: messenger/observer goddess (since she can literally monitor everything)
camillo: shapeshifter god/mischief god(much like loki)
    antonio: patron/protector god of beasts
    bruno: seer/destiny god
    julieta: healer/stove goddess
luisa: warrior goddess (since most warrior gods/goddesses are associated with strength)

@@AnEffingPinkCatThatBreathes maybe it's because Abuela has never really gotten over Pedro's death so maybe Mirabel has taken to referring to Casita as 'the house' instead of 'Abuelo' because bringing him up or talking about him within earshot of her is a touchy subject, like how Bruno is to Pepa and the rest of the family. Plus, I can't imagine Abuela would take it well if she sees her least favourite grandchild being closer to her husband than she is if she interprets the house as an embodiment of his spirit so maybe Casita never revealed that it's Pedro to be polite and not stir up trouble, similar to how the family tends to prefer to keep quiet about sensitive issues instead of addressing them.

Casita is Abuelo. That's my theory. In the flashback, we don't actually see him dying but we know he did. And the miracle was given almost immediately after. I think he 'stayed' behind and became the miracle or the house to watch and protect his family even though he was still gone. Why else would the house have such an expressive personality if it wasn't inspired by someone. Even when we see him and Abuela together when she lets him know they are having triplets, he is so animated in his reaction. Also, I think that he's a part of the reason the house was cracking and the miracle was dying. He was seeing how his family had grown to be in just 2 generations and didn't want that. He couldn't bare for the family to lose sight of their gifts just for the sake of being someone perfect that Abuela had in mind. I think he was disappointed in her and when Mirabel came along, he saw no need to give her gift. Like it was stated, she already was the gift and he needed her to change the family, not the community and encanto, for the better.

it's crazy how casita had enough (?) rooms for everyone when it was just built, it's like it predicted the number of children the triplets will have.

I love casita but I genuinely don’t know how anyone would be able to be intimate in a living fk house I’d just be embarrassed.
The real miracle is the fact that there were actually more generations in the first place

I love how the grandmother tried to pin the magic dying on mirabela. The magic was dying before she went on her “quest”. In my opinion Mirabelas powers is making people sing which is mixed with reality warping abilities and a ton of other cool powers.

I don't know why the crumbling house moving furniture to protect Mirabel from itself made me cry that fucking hard. Both in theater and now.

I thought that Casita made sure Bruno was okay by distorting itself. Looking at the size of the hole and how he flew out. Casita just broke just to make sure Bruno was safe and away from debris.
