Great instructional maintenance video Russell. SMG should compensate you for your endorsement. Good idea marking the guide wheel location first before taking them off. THAT would have saved me lots of time. I agree with you about it being the best manual mill on the market. It’s so well designed with ease of use in mind. Thanks for the shout out! Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks for watching and the comments, trust me you won’t regret it, they are great sawmills it’s why they’re a bit more expensive but there’s a reason. Good luck if you have any questions about it please reach out.
Very interesting set up you got there. This is the first video of yours I've seen but if you've not shown the details of how the backstops for the cant hinge up, I'd appreciate a minute or two on that component. I've not seen the SMG before, and it looks to be a really decent setup.
Great sawmill, I've always like the fit and finish of the SMG mills. Russell, excellent job as usual. I use 4 degree blades for knotty spruce. What hook angle are you cutting with ? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot for watching and the comment, I have no idea what degree my blades are, I buy them by the box they are Lennox and I have a local guy set and sharpen them. Thanks again !
How's she goin'? That's a nice looking mill Russell. It sure can saw logs eh. Nice to get the maintenance done and now your good to go. Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to part 2!!!
Its a great little mill and seems to be or have what I call user friendly adjustments. I can hope that its in a decent price range for most are too poor to buy a good quality mill. I seen a good stable frame for the logs to rest on as well as the saw carriage to run on. I make these statements because I just build the mills I use for the timber its going to be operating in. You have a wide enough frame for stable milling as well meaning this mill doesn't vibrate or shake when in use. I am going to share this video with some homesteaders that need to learn how to just set the log in its milling position, how to get finished boards without having a large pile of lumber still needing a trim on one side or even getting the most out of a board that is already sawed. I like the fact that you don't pass a side by rolling this log the least amount of turns.,... two sides trimmed and then the actual cuts for dimensions. As we go on an maybe converse on here, I will share some of my own tricks of the trade..... just a few but helpful tricks to help keep down waste. I see by the way your running this mill, that your still in that getting used to how it performs.... I have about forty years on just running a mill of different types, both band and circular mills. The latter is the best for high production but a band mill saves a ton on waste and can perform just as well. I gave a like and did subscribe.... lets hope your list of subscribers will grow substantially
Thanks so much Morgan for watching and commenting. It’s a great mill has more than exceeding my expectations and performance. Would like to chat with you about your experience with sawmills. Check out my other sawmill videos and I look forward to your comments and ideas. Again welcome and thank you!
I'm guessing you didn't need any factory tech support? I bought a SMG J100 chainsaw mill. I tried getting some questions answered. No luck getting a response. They used to have 1 employee that spoke English that I was able to talk to once , but he quit or so I was told. If you speak French then maybe you will get some support ? Have changed now? Don't know. But I'm not too impressed with the after sale service.
I pretty much do all the repairs and maintenance myself and have an uncle who is a great mechanic so I wouldn’t need any tech support from them, thankfully if what you say is true. Unfortunately they are based in Quebec so limited English I would guess and that’s unfortunate because the product is top notch. Sorry to hear of your bad experience and thanks for sharing.
Hi Russell , it depends where U live Here in Germany the best choice for a mill is Woodmizer. There is no any other good one.... If I live in Canada, sure I take a look at SMG, timberking, barker und WM... The SMG is available in France, but they don't like Germans.... I tried calling them, I gave up...so I bought a new Woodmizer LT40. If I win in the lottery I go Serra me 90. Greetings Wolfgang
