Band-Maid is what happens when you put 5 awesome humans together and they practice their tails off until they are all top tier musicians. Then, you have a songwriter and lyrics combo (Kanami/Miku) who can create masterpiece after masterpiece. Finally, they also happen to be very very good at connecting to their fans through music. They can reach right into your heart and you are completely at their mercy.

Since *BAND-MAID* has over 130 song and many of them are excellent, but one of my favorite is *BAND-MAID / Alone* which is the first song that their management company allowed them to write on their own, and after that they started writing their own material. 😊

Worth looking at the lyric translation after a few listens. Really a connection with the past, present, future.Oddly moving. But as always with Band Maid this is very much an albums worth of ideas in one track. Epic Narratives is an album worth listening to.

Sorry it's long but here's the thought process that went into the song - Kanami (lead guitar & composer, Saiki (vocals and lyrics in this case)
KANAMI: Yes. Actually, SAIKI had been telling me for a while that she wanted a song with a lot of development. And when I was making this song, I happened to have experienced the death of someone close to me, so I was thinking about things like "What is life?" and "What does it mean to live?" So I thought I'd like to try to express things like "What is a person's life?" and "Life has ups and downs" through music. Even though there are ups and downs and many changes, there should be a core that never changes, so I expressed that in the riff... I'm kind of embarrassed to say this myself (laughs).
    SAIKI: Don't be embarrassed! (laughs)
    Miku Kobato: That's cool!
-- So in other words, the riff is like a fixed point, and it feels like it's watching over the changes in life, right?
    KANAMI: That's right!
SAIKI: This is a song that I thought was very wonderful from the first time I heard it. I got a lot of images when I listened to it. This is exactly the kind of song I wanted.
──The lyrics of this song were written by SAIKI. It seems a little different from "life has ups and downs," but it seems to express a view of life. What did you want to express here?
SAIKI: Every day, I realize the greatness of music, and while I was researching the history of music, I learned that there were songs that were forbidden to be sung long ago, and stories that were forbidden to be told. But now, with modern technology, we have the chance to restore them and listen to them, and the reality is that we can now read stories that were once forbidden. That made me realize that art is something that never disappears, and I thought that this in itself is very romantic and beautiful. When I thought about what would happen if I expressed life in music, while asking the question "What is life?" that KANAMI asked, I thought that "living" means "we are here now." I wrote this song with the hope that even if our bodies were to disappear, someone might someday pass on this music. I thought it would be nice if our music would remain in the future. I thought it would be wonderful if people in the future who would never know BAND-MAID would find out about us through this song, and if our music could give someone a push. I've experienced something like that myself. There are many musicians who were no longer in this world when I started to like music, right? But their music gave me courage, taught me the greatness of music, and gave me a push, so I wrote these lyrics hoping that I could do that someday. AKANE:
When I listened to this song, I got a bright future and a positive and beautiful impression, so I didn't want to ruin it by filling it with clutter in terms of the performance. I wanted to make a song that would stick in people's ears and resonate with their hearts, so the drums are unusual for BAND-MAID songs, with the same rhythm repeated. Even though there were changes for each section, there were parts where the drums were focused on highlighting the melody, so that it would fit in the ears. I just had a strong desire to deliver the melody.
MISA: I felt that this song had a story and the development was interesting, so I played it while being conscious of making the different characters in each section while keeping it simple. I tried changing the touch of my picking and things like that.

This tale can be interpreted in different ways. It could well been a tragic love story, but it could also be about someone's life, music, unforeseen destiny, them as a band, or Saiki as a person.
I personally felt Saiki in the lyrics.
Music helps us through hard times and even could change our life.
People around you think they know about you but they really don't. It could be legend, or heartless rumours that could push you to the limit.
You don't have to hide your emotions, let it all out, let me hear your voice.
Words like "you" in this lyrics, could mean anyone, anything.
I can sing this song during those difficult times to move on, nobody can stop me from moving forward after all. For someone younger than us, may want their presence recognised, more shining moments. They have many years of life ahead them full of potentials, and guided to a bright future.

Thrill was their first MV 'B' side of their first single. My top 2 songs at the moment are 'Anemone' from the World Domination album and 'The One' off the new album Epic Narratives. No music videos or lives of them I'm afraid and they are very different from what you've heard so far, mellower and on the emotional side for me.

    A favorite Band-Maid track…😂 That’s like having a favorite child when you have 100+ kids. 😂
The joke with Maidiacs is that your favorite Band-Maid song is the one you’re currently listening to. They are arguably the most prolific songwriters ever, making great song after great song.
    But here goes:
    - “Real Existence” - LIVE version
    - “Puzzle” - LIVE
    - “Sayonakidori” - acoustic & electric LIVE (Miku song)
    - “Influencer” - OMV
    - “Hate?” - OLV
    - “Daydreaming” - OMV
    - “Why, Why, Why” - OLV (on Instrumental Maid YT channel)
The Maids don’t block, so you’re good with any version.
Enjoy the journey down the Pigeon Hole! 🎉😂
Take care and rock on 🤘🏼🔥🌎🎸🎤🥁🍺🙌🏼😎✌🏼☮️

On their past material, you can literally pick them at random and come up with a winner, but some of my faves are Real Existence Official LIVE, Daydreaming if you like a great power ballad, and especially Moratorium - although you'll have to go outside their official channel to get a video. Honestly though - they don't do bad or even mediocre songs.

For me as a fan it is hard/impossible to point to a favorite. It is often said your favorite Band-Maid song is the last one you listened to. I will point to some older MVs, others will likely go with various live songs. The MVs are "Dice", "Daydreaming" and a double which should be watched together in this order, "secret My lips" and "secret MAIKO lips". Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid.

Guys, if you haven't reacted to the video yet, you should react to "Bestie", the official music video. It was a partial collaboration with Mike Einziger of Incubus. I provided Kanami with the opening rift and some input on the tone of the song and Kanami did the rest. The video looks completely different from past and present Band-Maid videos.
"Thrill" was the first Band-Maid video that kept them together as a group, however there are several other videos I would suggest that are among the favorites of Maidiacs worldwide. "Moratorium", the official live video from the Tokyo Zepp Theatre, "Manners/Black Hole", a two-fer officlal live video filmed for an on-line concert during the pandemic, and "Wonderland", the official live video. These four songs show both their talent, and solid rock chops and their musical versatility.
They also do some wonderful rock ballads along with "Bestie", "Daydreaming", the official music video, is a must-see, "About Us", the official live video, again an on-line concert during the pandemic and "Memorable", the official music video.
They have over 130 songs in their catalog, so any song you react to will be worth it.

A BIG welcome to Maid Rock guys 👌🥳 As the Maids have plenty more songs than when I discovered them...I have a strong suggestion for a 2-Song reaction: Firstly the 'Thrill' MV was pivotal...it went viral in the west and saved them from the record company axing the project. Secondly, a jump forward to show their quality in my most-played addictive song and superb recording in the 'Dice' MV (if I was to jump another step in time...their recent 'Influencer' MV is pure contemporary Maid Rockin style...and wicked video location). Enjoy the pigeon hole 👍🤘🤘🤘
