This is false advertising as there is no way I can play like Chris ha ha Sounds fantastic, great work Thorpey and Buck! "For all your tube pedal needs"
I need one of these - for the sole reason I grew up in "air cadets" and am military aircraft mad - the English Electric Lightning is my favorite aircraft ever lol. Its worth it for the graphic on the front alone.
I am so beyond hyped. I’ve watched as many videos as possible on this since the news officially dropped. Chris Buck is literally my guitar idol and I’m gonna scrape together the bottle caps and get this if it kills me 😂 Fangirling aside, this sounds lush in all the contexts I’ve heard and while I no longer own any valve amps, I’m hoping I get that valve feel through my catalyst.
I watched a few demos before this one, and the pedal sounded bright and harsh in all of them. Now that I’ve watched this demo with Chris it makes sense. His clean tone is quite dark.
Chris Buck is the king of little witty and mildly self-deprecating comments subtly thrown into his conversations lol. His speaking almost has as much dynamic as his playing hahaha. Love listening to both!
Another great video from my favourite RUclips channel. I finally was able to call in to Andertons today. Great to be surrounded by guitar gear, and the staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming.
Over £400 for a double overdrive , Chris can indeed play , good luck to him and his career, a bit juicy for most pub club non pro players .... there are other cheaper valve pedals out there , try the Orange Floor Stomp , its amazing
Half bends are the new bends 😝 Great work again by Adrian and the team at Thorpy but are we surprised. He's been consistently producing great pedals for years 🔥
Love it! I always love a good tube pedal on a tube amp since the Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n. Hey you guys touched on compression briefly. A major sleeper pedal that really needs a good demo is the Donner LAX COMP. It's a pedal based on the Universal Audio 1176LN Limiting Amplifier. There is even an encrypted "1176" in the simple artwork. Donner had first class engineers on this one. Donner LAX COMP is designed around the LM3080 OTA ( Operational Transconductance Amplifier , see an excellent article on the CA3080 OTA in Internet Archives- Radio Electronics magazine May 1988 pages 63-68. Also in the circuit are 3 transistors and approx 50 surface mount resistors and capacitors. Using the pedal is almost a set it and forget it, but it's always 'on' at or near the beginning of my non-looped chained making everything after it sound better. 🙂
Seems in keeping with what people seem to charge for other boutique/high end valve ODs (similar to kingsley? I guess) Though I am curious as to how the cost breaks down for pedal like this vs a solid state od.. parts, labour etc.. Also I guess not everything can be affordable for everyone
@@MrAwesomeSaucesome No, affordable is affordable. When referencing that term it is implying that the layman can afford it, not some well off gent with money to blow while he can't muster a bar chord but can warrant spending 500 smackers on a drive pedal.
Great new product..love all the new gear but…is it me thinking of that or is actually the prices of new gear starting to be out of this world…yesterday the 724€ strymon big sky and now the over 400€ drive pedal with a tube in it..actually is pricier than the victory preamps 😮
Who ever said Chris plays the same thing over and over only wishs they could play 1/10 of what he can do and they have no soul and have absolutely atrocious taste. I'm a predominantly Death Metal listener and player and know greatness when I see it. I've been follow Chris for a long time now and his playing is soooo expressive.
It sounds good. I've modified a few ODs with a tube gain stage. However i did it more out of a sense of irony than because i wanted to use it. It just seemed ridiculous to have a tube screamer with a tube stage, like dropping a 460 into a late 90s Ford Escort. This sounds much better than those did. Granted they were Tube Screamers, i think if i had used an OD with a more neutral EQ curve it would have been more useful.
I did post about a few things negatively on the RUclips channel but forgot to say we'll done Chris on an excellent collaboration with Thorpy a builder I do admire but can never afford sadly and maybe now the snouse blackbox may be off the list of too pricey because its used by a legend
Would this pedals drive work OK through a solid state? Got a Marshall mg50fx for playing at home and would love this pedal - if it works well with that kind of amp! Love Chris's playing so much :)
@@markseymour8365 I know. I once remarked in his videos about his submariner being 3 links too many and how he only wears it to show off. Funny how, like a lot of folks here, this is beyond my budget. Yet, if they develop a pedal that makes me actually sound like Chris Buck playing, I'd sell my non-essential organs on the black market to get it.
According to Thorpy it will work on 500ma with 12 v if you have that option. Pedal designed to work on 700ma. Power supply included but still a pain if you don't have the 12v 500ma option.
All things come in price brackets. Guitar gear is no exception (squier vs. custom shop fender, PRS SE vs. private stock, dumbles and two rock amps and so on). This looks a high end intensely researched model so will cost big versus a cheap drive and boost pedal. Having seen Chris play live, i can attest his tone is sublime in the room.
This is like the 3rd or 4th video in a row from Anderton's that I know from the title I don't need to even bother watching- anything from Thorpy is grossly overpriced- just like anything from Strymon or Gibson.

For sure. There are definitely not thousands of slow blues players who cream as they play.

Best thing about playing multiple strats, you can find out what specs you like and don’t like, and then put it together yourself fairly easy.
