She believed, “she had no purpose in life.” But she truly did, “she helped bring awareness to high functioning depression.

But you don’t write a book if you don’t think you have purpose. She even speaks of important events in her life. She was excited about her book! Trust and believe…that poor woman was triggered by something or someone.

I still think about her. I saw this book at Target and it was the only copy on the shelf. I’m currently reading it now and it’s so helpful. Has allowed me to think about things in life a little differently.

As someone who was diagnosed with clinical depression (through Generalized Anxiety Disorder), I pray that after this, we "pierce the veil" of shame of mental health awareness (especially within the African-American community). I have learned to "Do The Work" to remain healthy...I go to therapy, I minimize toxic relationships, I identify "triggers" by acknowledging healthy boundaries, I take my mental health medication and I take "mental health breaks" from toxic variables (people, places, things or ideas) that are not for my highest good.
Information and awareness are key! R.I.P., Queen Cheslie!

She was probably bullied and ostracized for being a beautiful and smart woman (she was a lawyer) then it became too much to bear. I was hated for being beautiful and having brains. Thank God I moved to Baltimore and that toughened me up! I don't take nonsense from anyone.

Madonna's best song "Live to Tell" reminds me of Cheslie Kryst. Lyrics could be interpreted to refer to a private and secretive struggle with depression and suicide. Cheslie's story affected me because i remembered many periods when i lived in a dark shadow invisible to everyone else. If a beauty queen cannot endure, what hope is there for an ordinary peasant like me? I still think about Cheslie, a total stranger, randomly from time to time. Check the lyrics to "Live to Tell." "I know where beauty lives..."❤ I will read her book.

I'm a big pageant fan. You know how they say hindsight is 2020 - looking back and seeing footage of her at Miss Universe in Israel, the light in her eyes was just different. It's all just so very heart breakingly sad. She is missed, and thought of, and loved every day.

I noticed she was gone ever since the Miss Universe pageant. She had everything to win, and it’s like she competed but her energy wasn’t there anymore. There was something totally off.

The mind is “delusional” and should be “trained” to focus on the “present” mindfulness and not the past(depression) and not future (anxiety). Be cautious of obsessive materialism (e.g. wealth, physical beauty comparisons, living beyond one’s means). These are all stressors that can disrupt mental wellness. Peace and blessings.
