  • The Blob 1988 Special Effects Nick Benson interview.
Horror Special Effects master Nick Benson tells us all about his work on the 1988 remake of The Blob including how his special effects for the movie were done, thoughts on the original Blob 1958 and Beware The Blob 1972, some upcoming blob events, and even his thoughts on Kevin Dillon's haircut in the Blob remake... and a lot more!
The Blob is a 1988 American science fiction horror film co-written and directed by Chuck Russell. A remake of the 1958 film of the same name, it stars Shawnee Smith, Kevin Dillon, Donovan Leitch, Jeffrey DeMunn, Paul McCrane, Art LaFleur, Robert Axelrod, Joe Seneca, Del Close and Candy Clark. The plot follows an acidic, amoeba-like organism that crashes down to Earth in a military satellite, which devours and dissolves anything in its path as it grows. A deadly entity from space crashes near a small town and starts to consume anyone in its path. Panic ensues, as shady government scientists try to contain the horrific creature.
The 1988 remake of The Blob is considered one of the best remakes of all time by many horror fans and stands out alongside other amazing 80s horror remakes such as The Thing 1982, and The Fly 1986.

Great interview :) I actually used to live a short drive away from Abbeville, Louisiana (where it was filmed) and the place pretty much looks the same 33 years later. Sadly, all they have about it is some framed photos in a mini museum made out of an old caboose.

Thanks a lot :). That's so cool that it still looks the same. I would love to go there some time. Sad they only have a small set up for it. Was similar even when I went to Monroeville mall from Dawn of the Dead. Just a couple small plaques. Thanks for watching again!

Really enjoyed this version....the original was a bit too white bread for my liking. Oddly this "pink" version appears more menacing than the grape color of the Mc Queen version. Something about that flesh color that adds a bit of unearthly creepiness. The old hermit scenes were my favorites...sort of Exorcist-esque. All we monster movie mavens like to be shocked and impressed....you guys showed lots of imagination...Kudos. Also the kids taboo was always a nice twist. We always thought the studios would NEVER kill an innocent kid. DayyAm!!! Ate his little ass right up! Soo Cool! Enjoy your channel...nice overview.

Ok this was definitely something that I am glad that I came across. Let me just say that this movie scared the absolute shit out of me and gave me nightmares for the majority of my life. I saw it when I was 4, I am now 36. I still am paranoid about sinks and God forbid if they make noise. I still look at ceilings when I am in a theater. I have to look behind doorways when I'm entering a room and I have an anxiety attack when this movie is on TV. I'm getting better though. I still hate this movie but I am slowly getting over the anxiety from it. I think I had a mild heart attack when I heard Rob Zombie was supposed to remake this movie. I can't imagine the nightmares from that movie. I did watch the special for blobfest and was surprisingly I was calm and didn't have anxiety. I will probably never go there, but it was interesting to watch. I do appreciate that you did the interview, it made it easier for me to see all the props and special effects. I hate the kitchen scene the most. Maybe one day I'll be able to watch it and enjoy the movie.

From what I read about the Rob Zombie remake, the Blob was gonna be inside a giant pillar and it would infect people turning them into gooey melty zombie creatures.
Pretty creative, although I don't think he'll make it

Me too! The scariest part is seeing Meg, Kevin, and Eddie trying to run and swim through the water as the blob chases them. Watching Eddy literally being devoured is horrifying and traumatic and off course there part where Dr meddows has Brian, the scientist, and Meg trapped in the sewer
