Property taxes in beautiful coastal enclaves of Spain and Italy are approximately $350 a YEAR for a 2000sq ft. home on a lot up to 1 acre. This Cook County town looks like a total dump.

I remember when I bought my home about ten years ago. I put a large enough down payment so my mortgage was cheap. My home was placed in escrow and my monthly payments were $425/month and that’s with insurance and taxes (for those that don’t know about escrow). Anyway ever since Covid hit like clockwork every year my insurance and taxes have steadily been rising. My payment now is almost $900 and all of this has happened in the last few years. The house payment has remained the same but its taxes and insurance that keep rising. I’ve changed insurance companies to get a better rate and it only lasts for a year and it jumps back up again. Homeowners really don’t have much recourse when it comes to taxes and insurance. They have us by the b@lls and they know it.

Some unnamed third party wants the land so they're paying the county politicans under the table to inflate the value of the properties.
It's the exact same as what was done to long time residents in the late 1980s and into the 1990s when developers wanted to build Turner Stadium in Atlanta. They just increased the taxes until they were higher than the 'offered' price for the properties (i.e. a 'buyer' showed up and offered 25k for a 40k property, owner said no. So the tax 'value' jumped to 1.4 million and the locals who had owned there for 30 years simply could not pay the taxes and were evicted.... and got $0 for their property. All so the city could build a stadium).
Rinse & repeat for Mercedes Benz stadium, ect.
Cook County Assessors office seems to do this all the time. I live in Chicago and my house was over accessed by 20%. They seems to throw s… against the wall and reverse it on appeal.
The problem is they have to pay teachers and teachers pensions. The normal pension of a retired LTHS high school teacher is 100k+ a year. Most teachers at LTHS at retirement make over $130k for 9 months of work. LT is a good school and has one of the only special needs programs in the area. Not sure how home owners can keep paying these INSANE pensions...... jus’sayin.....

The same thing was done to us here in Kansas City and i think it is happening everywhere. Taxes on 275K homes here are $4300/year. For what? Must be lining politician pockets.

I'm not an Imigrant never put foot n a public school my parents both worked all there lives . I pay taxes like any body else. It's very unfair to citizens got go back in line so this people that just got here are already getting help. There moe homelessness now. By people that been needing help desperately. Yes Enriquez by marriage since I was 17 married for 46 years till my husband passed last year.
Taxes keep cook counrt property values from going up. Homes that were purchased for 500k 20 years ago, are still worth 500k today. If you were to buy a home in Colorado for 500k in 2003, it would be worth 1.5 million today. How do I know that? I've done it.
Tax assessment value should be the price paid and stay the same for the life of the loan and only change when the house is sold or added on to.

Basically 3% tax on your property highest in country . On a $300k bungalow = $9000.00… ridiculous. Please call Pritzker office for State Law limiting increases to 10 to 15% every 3 year reassessed.

At some point WE the PEOPLE need to say enough with property taxes for single family homes with a few acres. How tf are we supposed to believe we own something if the fking corrupt government can take it away for us not paying the king his due.
Property Tax Assessments which are done on Market Values needed to be determined by the type of Zoning Laws that are in Place and the Floor Space made available within the Property Plot. The Neighborhood effect is seen in the Suburbia and hence the average of Percapita Income of the Region needs to be taken into account to get with the Uniformity in the Urban Livingspaces.

As to no suprise in the slightest, as long as you continue to allow private equity companies to lobby for property tax and home insurance increases during a time of inflation and stagnant wages, more people will be forced to foreclose, allowing investors and private equity to scoop up the remaining houses or purchase them from banks as soon as they hit the market.
This same thing has happened in a small town in Minnesota.
And I am irritated at paying $2,800/year in county taxes. 😮
