    I never got this to work. I have 1000:1 CT coil and 0.1Amp Load (1 Volt Source, with Rload = 10). I wanted to measure mA so I used 1000kOhm resistor on the coil side and tested with a DC source. When I measured the burden resistor across the coil, it always read 0.0mV even if I switched current direction. Testing 1 amp or more on 18VDC is problematic as I need a large sandbar resistor and I want the sensitivity to be greater than that.

      Yes it does. One reason is they share the same core to put it simply. To explain it in detail, the secondary current induced in the secondary winding is due to the primary magnetic flux. This much is clear. Now when there is alternating current in a coil it creates a magnetic flux. That is also clear. So Lenz's law says that the induced current is such that it opposes the change which created it. In the case of the secondary current, it is the primary magnetic flux that created it. So the secondary flux opposes the primary flux. Because of this the primary back emf reduces and as a result primary draws more current to restore the magnetic flux to its initial strength. There is a balancing game going on between the two fluxes and they settle at equilibrium because in a transformer, the primary and secondary volt amperes must be same. This is how we say secondary current is proportional to the primary current. To understand it even simpler, the current transformer is a step up transformer with a short circuited secondary via the burden resistor. Hope this answers your question.
