This woman had a talent that was surprising to many people. The key of this song was raised for her, such was her formidable vocal range. It's been rumoured that Sondheim and Lee Remick were very, very close friends, and I can believe that. If nothing else, Sondheim was, I'm sure delighted with her rendering of this terrific song. We love you, Lee!
God Lee Remick was SOOOOO lovely. She left this world way too early. I love these Sondheim concerts because it's so fascinating to see these actresses singing/performing these wonderful (and, as any Sondheim afficionado (sp?) knows, very difficult to sing) songs. Many of these actresses, whose film careers were essentially over or waning--Glynis Johns, Yvonne DeCarlo, Alexis Smith, to name a few, were given the wonderful opportunity to showcase talents no one ever knew they had!
This is quite a pleasant surprise! I had no idea she could sing so well! She's been a favorite actress of mine and am happy to see this clip. Thanks for posting.
You prolly dont care but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all the new series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend for the last days :)
Wonderful!!...Lee was a very special talent. This is the first time I've ever seen her in this genre...she's quite good...but of course with a Sondheim vehicle...all is well.
I mean who the hell knew that Lee Remick could sing? And not just sing, but deliver such a beautiful rendition of this number. I guess she was about 50 here. She about six years after this, much too early. Would have loved to have seen what roles she would've been doing had been around longer.
Heard this today on Elaine Paiges` Radio 2 show, so had to check it out... Absolutely brilliant!!! As dannybex has already noted, I didn`t realise the lady could sing so well. I personally wouldn`t know if this was a key higher... I have the musical ability of a soapdish :-(
Wonderful, what a singer ! This had talent oozing from every part of her. What a great shame that she died so young ! It has been said by some , because she smoked from an early age, who knows. All I know, from what read, that smoking has been reduced, I mean stopped by so many, or not started by others, but lung cancer is on the increase.
Check out Lee's clips from DAMN YANKEES also on RUclips. Also very good. Sure Gwen Verdon had it over her in the dance dept., but Lee sang better (imo), and was so SEXY as Lola she could have probably could have gotten a rise out of Troy Donahue.
@johnboy32064 TELL IT JOHN-BOY!! DITTO! Shes Amazing! Who knows now that Spiderman is on broadway..Hell, she could have done THE OMEN the Musical! she can BELT a BIG note when she falls over the railing! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
@gregorvonkallahann "...she could have probably could have gotten a rise out of Troy Donahue." What nonsense is this? Troy Donahue was gay! How could she gotten a ri- Oh...now I get it. "Nnever mind"
bronxbearbud Troy Donahue wasn't gay. You are probably mistaking him for Tab Hunter. Donahue had major substance abuse issues which is why his career kinda faded not because he had a hankering for men.

I swear she stopped time in this number. Unique and underrated.
Always thought Lee was beautiful and a fine actress. She could speak volumes with her eyes alone. I had no idea she could sing too. Gone too soon.
So true, who knew it would be Sondheim who could bring out the best in women? He appreciated their enormous talents & possibilities.
I saw this performance in 1985 when I was 13. I have loved it ever since.
Surprisingly good voice. I had no idea she sang so well...

That is talent and beauty. Rare.
I am at a loss to understand how anyone could mark this lady down ! The lady is talented way beyond anything that I have seen in my 64 years.
STAGGERINGLY BEAUTIFUL (until about 6 months before liver cancer took her); HEARTRENDINGLY TALENTED; ASTONISHING WOMAN
Thanks for posting! What a treasure we lost her so early.
For me, Miss Remick OWNS this song.
You prolly dont care but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all the new series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend for the last days :)
@Zyaire Max Definitely, I've been using InstaFlixxer for months myself :D
Lee Remick - GORGEOUS - TALENTED.
What a treasure of a video to stumble upon, what a versatile beautiful talent...
Mesmerising!
Brilliant music composition/statement! Another Sondheim genius music comp.

She was a Nordic Goddess, and men will always worship at her altar.
I was so obsessed with this song when I first heard it when I was 13 years old. Right after the Follies Concert.

She starred in Sondheim's first musical along with Angela Lansbury - "Anyone Can Whistle." Everyone on B'way knew.
John Kerr Gee, aged theater queen. Thanks for schooling me. Rude.
Beautiful talented Lee RIP
amazing voice !
I didn't even know she could sing! Wow.
I have my criticisms of this concert version but Lee Remick is a real standout. She is so right as Phyllis.

One of the hottest women ever! Who knew she could sing too? What a babe!
No wonder SS loved her...
Lee's wonderful.
And this is a key higher than the original, right?

I have nothing against Lee Remick.. but have you seen Donna Murphy???! She nailed that song.
I didn’t know she was a singer! I think I’ve only seen her in “The Omen”!
If you like her performance here, check out her rendition of Sondheim's "Anyone Can
Whistle".
a good omen

This a broadway song as wrote by Maurice Ravel. I love it.

Was Lee Remick too beautiful ... or what?

She didn’t get it
Guess.

Ms remick looks great...however; her voice lacks a depth that carol Burnett has...
Barry Cunningham I just need Donna Murphy to sing this song... No one else lives through this song like she does.
Not a competition, morons.
Not my favorite.
Ditto.
