She was always one of my favorite actresses. As a pilot for a commuter airline a number of years ago, I had her as a passenger on one of my flights to Hyannis, on Cape Cod. At the end of the flight, she came up to the cockpit, thanked us and handed me a rose. I will never forget her gracious gesture. A truly kind and beautiful woman.

I met this wonderful lady while she was filming in Fort Irwin, CA in 1978. I was a young MP from Massachusetts and volunteered to be an extra in this movie. Lee was a very charming, pleasant and very pretty lady with green eyes and a great smile. I spoke with her a few times at length and remember how caring and polite she was. She spoke of her father and the business back in Mass. and how she missed it at times. I was very lucky to have crossed paths with her,...God Rest her soul,............

I met this beautiful woman at a photographers studio in the early 80s. She was wearing little or no makeup ...her face freckled . She was unassuming. Very low key . We talked a bit while we waited for the photographer to leave the set. She asked me what we were doing. I told her we were shooting a fashion catalog and she seemed very interested and asked me a few questions about how we did it and for whom we we were doing the photography. I did not acknowledge that I knew her cause I wanted it to be a normal situation. I have always thought she was a brilliant actress but from that day I admired her even more for who she was as a person.

Lee Remick was a great actress. For some reason, her acting never received anywhere near the recognition that she deserved. Her acting was subtle, nuanced, honest, realm and interesting, something rare now days. Her acting in Days of Wine and Roses was, and still is, some of the best acting of all time, male or female. And the prettiest actress of them all. Her face had character, and not just a bland frozen mannequin.

Beauty like Lee’s is timeless. She would be considered just as beautiful if she were a young star now. And I don’t mean beauty in the model sense, but in the combined sense of form and substance. I have a feeling that she was just as beautiful on the inside as out.

Lee had that rare kind of beauty, that radiates confidence and sexiness too, but always in a subtle, classy way...I guess I should not judge her for leaving the father of her children, but I was kinda shocked to find that out about her...she seemed so grounded and happy at the time...but I guess the English dude and her both were unhappy concerning their marriages...so they fell for each other.

I worked at her father's department store for about six years, the visits from Lee Remick were always special days. Lee Remick was jaw-dropping beautiful and always so friendly and approachable. her father was the same, working for him was an experience that I carried with me for my entire working life. The store and the atmosphere created there was a direct reflection of the Remick Name. Remick's of Quincy, Unique for the times.

I was very surprised to learn that Lee Remick was only 55 when she died, a year younger than I am now. Not young but far from old. Lee Remick seems to have been able to avoid the pinup girl phase some actresses, such as Marilyn Monroe, went through. Miss Remick had a distinctive classiness about her; someone once referred to her as "patrician" and I agree. You can tell she was made for excellent, serious acting work.

That scene still shot of the court room is infact Marquette county circuit Court room, which is still used to this day. All the other buildings used in the movie are still open for business, the lumber jack bar in Big Bay, the Big Bay hotel, mount Shasta bar where Duke Ellington's band played in the movie, even the house that was the lawyers house is still standing & being lived in. Such a lovely lady ...thank you for doing this...I knew she passed with cancer but did not know much about the end of her life. So sad to end that way....I saw "Days of Wine and Roses" as a teen with my father who was a heavy drinker and was I terrified of alcoholism forever afterwards. He died the same year he took me to see that movie.People used to tell me I looked alot like her in my 20's and 30's and I guess I did...same coloring and general size and facial features. I never knew whether my father TOOK me to see to see that movie as as a caution or not. Needless to say I have been very very careful of alcohol my entire life and have now lived to a fairly ripe old age myself and very happily too I might add. She meant alot in my life....

In the early 80's Ms. Remick came in a NYC store where I was working and I was astounded by the bluest eyes I have ever seen. Very beautiful charming woman

I really like the melancholy way the narrator tells the story. Its as if he knew her and is reminiscing.

Lee had that "special" quality that made her beautiful, inside and out. My favorite pictures were "Wild River," "The Days of Wine and Roses," and "The Omen." I think she was often underrated.

Perhaps not "underrated," but in the hierarchy of Hollywood stars, there is very little room at the top. How many Liz Taylor's and Julia Roberts were there in their day?? ONLY ONE.

Thank you. A very nice tribute to a remarkable and transcendental performer.
You didn't mention her film in England with Richard Burton, "Medusa Touch" I believe was the title.
I was reminded from your video that he was part of a long list of co-stars, the top actors of the time. Some names you did not mention but whom I recognised like Coleen Dewhurst an incomparable stage and screen actor as well as wife of George C. Scott ...... all the most brilliant actors of the day. She had truly an illustrious career for that time. I grew up watching her and was always enthralled. There was a magic about her. For those of us who saw that it was a wonderful experience.
The titles may be more or less unknown or forgotten today but at the time they were major works of note.
I grew up in the entertainment industry in New York and then Los Angeles. Although I never met Miss Remick I did know a number of the actors mentioned in this video that acted with her. She had a wonderful reputation. She was a kind and lovely woman. Always down to earth. I didn't know the story about Frank paying the hotel bill but I do know that he did such things for many people. My mother and he were friends during nearly 50 years until his death. I knew that if he read something in the newspaper about someone seriously in need or hardship he would have someone find out the details and provide money or whatever was needed. This of course was compensation for a very dark side of his personality but still it was more than most people ever did or do.
When I learned of Lee Remick's death I was stunned and very sad. Especially to think someone so lovely and good had suffered. We know that life is not fair but that doesn't make it any easier to accept.
A loss to her family but also to the world of film because she brought life and light to everything she did. Not only because she was beautiful but because she was authentic. In "Wine and Roses" she was not beautiful as the alcoholism took over but she was riveting and heartbreaking.

A very complete bio of Lee. Thank you so much Jerry for including Bill Colleran, the father of her children. He did love her so. I had the honor of working with Bill in the late 70's and early 80's. I got to meet his son once as he visited his dad at the studio we were doing a taping at. And after I knew Bill for a while he shared with me the story about that fateful night of the car accident ( a Thunderbird I think it was) leaving the Frank Sinatra party and how life had changed over the years for him. One summer's day I rebuilt the carburetor of his Buick as he was short on cash and I wanted to learn all about TV from him - seemed like a good trade! Thanks too for the great archival photos of Lee with Bill and their kids. I lost track of Bill when I left 'the biz' so thank you for telling that part of the story!

Not mentioned is a thriller in 1962 that I have never forgotten. "Experiment in Terror" was very scary for the day. Stefanie Powers played her teen age sister and Ross Martin was the bad guy. Also starred Glenn Ford. Just mentioning it because she was so young, so pretty and played the part so well.

Why didn't you mention the 1980 movie she was in with Amy Irving, Richard Dreyfuss, and Sam Wannamaker called The Competition? I absolutely loved her in that part! Especially when she says to Sam Wannamaker: "Andrew! It costs extra to carve "schmuck" on a tombstone, but you would definitely be worth the expense!"

Very informative, moving work. Thank you, Jerry Skinner. I was one of those who dismissed Lee Remick as just another HollyWoodenDolly, like Lana Turner, until I saw her in the underrated Hard Contract. For me, it was her most authentic, convincing performance of a real, ambiguously-variable, surprising human being. I'm probably one of the few who also appreciated Steven Sondheim's "Anyone Can Whistle" and her performance in it.
