I like that Danielson’s heel turn didn’t rely on him attacking Hangman Page or any other popular babyface, he just straight up marched to the ring, got cocky and basically told Hangman Page “you’re not on my level bud”. More heel turns like this!

Danielson’s AEW character is a super-serious wrestling machine that kicks people’s head in. It works as a heel or babyface. Danielson can be aggressive and over-confident with Hangman, then just barely get beat by Adam Page and shake Hangman’s hand, giving him the big boost he needs as a World champ, and also effectively turning Danielson back to babyface.
I would argue against that. I would say have Bryan go over on Hangman at Battle of the Belts and tell the story of testing Hangman's new found confidence, Lead it up to Revolution and put the championship back on Hangman. Gives them a 1-1 split and establishes Hangman as an equal to Danielson (This is also what I think they should do with Punk & MJF) Then you sit on the rubber match and make the people beg for the rubber match.
@@pirateradio6429 so Hangman’s very first big test as a main eventer (after over an entire year of questioning his main event status)… is a loss to Bryan? That sounds counterproductive. The point here with Hangman is to solidify him as a big time player in AEW. Not knock him down a peg then bring him back up. He’s already been knocked down multiple times over the past year and a half. That was the entire point of his big match with Omega. You don’t repeat that process all over again. You let him put on a classic with Bryan and then have Bryan (after all the trash talk and doubting) shake Hangman’s hand and raise his hand, giving him the rub as a major main event performer.

Hangman sucks as world champion, and they managed to completely deplete all of Danielson's heat since he saddled himself with the BCC. I won't fault him for being selfless, but for Tony to not capitalize on what was, for a brief time the hottest heel in the business is doing himself a serious disservice.
This is why Bryan vs Hangman works, it’s proving to Page that beating Kenny wasn’t a fluke by fighting the guy who Kenny couldn’t beat

I love that everything Bryan said have a point. It was not just a random "now-I'm-the-bad-guy" Heel turn. That's what I love at AEW: even when turning Heel, you always can see the "why" behind the actions. I wanna see more!
There's definitely something going on with the AEW face-heel dynamic. Reminds me of WCCW. Characters can draw heat & stay over as faces. Some "heels" are cheered in every match.
Also when Inner Circle turned face, they all pretty much had their reasons (aside from Santana and Ortiz). Jericho with MJF, Sammy with Miro, Hager with Wardlow and now American Top Team is solidifying their places as faces.
Bruh Punk and Danielson putting over two homegrown AEW talent is brilliant
I'll give a hot take, this isn't a heel turn. BD has said the same thing since day 1 in AEW, he's here to wrestle. We obviously love him from all his years of great performances but he's bringing the same energy towards Hangman that he has against everyone else. He's coming to kick everyone's heads in, even people we like.
I agree. This wasn't a character change, he's just the nominal heel opposite a hot babyface
This is strictly AEW storytelling. You can boo who you want to boo and cheer who you want to cheer, it's not going to change how wrestlers write their promos. It's very similar to how even in a "heel role" we all cheered Jericho, didn't change his promos, it just turned into a natural progression. AEW lets these things happen organically.

The hype on this match is really high. On one hand we have Hangman who will either become the shortest reigning champion or Bryan will have his first loss.
They have been building to this title reign since the day this company opened. Just the story leading up to the very first title match with Jericho you could tell they were building towards a Hangman title reign. I just don’t see having a build like that and then him just being a 30 day transitional champion.

Everyone has a consistent character and their alignment is based on whoever their opponent is
Like Punk was basically the heel against Eddie and now he's feuding with MJF as a face, without changing anything about his character

Aew promo only use bullet point so the promo feels more natural, one of the things that I like about aew
I love that nothing in AEW is a throw away, if something happens it can and likely will be referenced at some point. It makes it easier to be invested when you know the things that are said and the matches that are wrestled hold weight and actually matter down the road as much as the do in the present.
This was almost as vicious as the Punk/Kingston promo

Yeah. He’s really likable when he’s a guy clearly being held back for being too small. But in AEW where guys like him get pushed to the moon he has to compete with guys like Hangman to get people on his side. Just isn’t going to work. Love that he realized this and played the heel.

It shouldn’t shock you. Both companies can mention the rival brand by name only. It’s out of context because they are not technically “selling” a Wrestlemania event, Bryan referred to it as merely a figure of speech.
Therefore what he said does not count as copyright infringement.
Plus mentioning the name of the enemy is a good way to get extra views, clicks, bump up the ratings a little. It’s a smart marketing tactic that when executed correctly, benefits the promoter at hand.
If you are a wrestling fan, I’d suggest to study the economics of the business.

The promise to become the 1st AEW champ, the loss to Jericho, the rocky Tag Team champ reign with Kenny, all the tension with the bucks, the drinking.....etc. I followed along while everything played out on BTE as well. I agree Miro's story is good and Malakai is super intriguing, to compare it to the 2yr arc of cowboy shit is not even close. My opinion of course.
