  • A Van de Graaff generator uses a moving belt to transfer electric charges to a hollow metal sphere, thus creating an electric field. It can produce roughly 100,000 volts and can store enough energy to produce a visible spark! It was invented by an American physicist named Robert J. Van de Graaff in 1929.
