When I read those books that thoughts crosses my mind. All the main characters men in the books all the Bridgerton' brother's along with the in laws. Especially Gareth, Michael and Simon. Sir Phillip might be the least. He did hook up with women before he married Marina, but not as bad as the others.
Idc what anyone says, my girl was BRAVE for asking for that kiss and I would die before asking my crush to kiss me and yes, it would kill me knowing I didn't went after what I wanted. She went for her wants and desires and didn't care for what others (Colin, society) may think which was the whole theme of the ep and I applaud her for it. It was one of my favorite moments in the book, I'm glad it was kept on the show and I wanna be as brave as she is when I grow up (saying this as an adult).

In the book when Pen asks Colin to kiss her, the reason he hesitates so much is because not only can he not believe what she just said , but he can’t believe that he actually WANTS to kiss her. For Pen she’s just living a dream she thinks will never come true . But the minute she runs off Colin is left stunned , because all he can think about is how much he wants to kiss her again , and from that point on our boy is DOWN BAD.

Honestly i think her asking for the kiss had a deeper reason. At that point she was in the middle of a scandal and she felt down and that the few chances of marriage she had were about to be zero after the scandal. Of course she felt like no one would want her and the only chance to ever feel something akin to being loved would be asking someone to do her the favor of sharing a kiss. It was brave of her that even if she resigned to be a spinster after the scandal she would have something as little as a kiss to be in peace for the rest of her lonely life. I loved your editing tho 😂😂😂 Colin took ages to agree to the kiss

He’s still licking his wounds about the mess with marina. He’s dealing with stuff too… There was a moment in the kiss you can tell he figures out his feelings for pen. He’s had a summer of stale and uncomfortable sex with courtesans and felt unsatisfied. With that comparison, I’m sure the suppressed love was bursting out of him to kiss someone he cares about and finds out he loves it and loves her. He’s a suppressed lover boy.

God forbid they tell it to me in a expository way. I like the way they did it. I think they gave me enough information to interpret what they’re going for. I agree that I wouldn’t complain for more Polin in my Polin season Yk? A lot of the subplots could’ve been whittled down with a short exposition and a few lines. They did it for edwina with that throwaway line about her marrying overseas (I actually would’ve liked to see that lol) I think the few dissociative looks Colin gave while with the courtesans, him sulking in his study, the candle going out, him literally buying the same piece of cake pen bought so he can reminisce on their intimacy and ~the kiss~ they show and don’t tell us about how much of a lover boy he is. He’s literally fixating on pen’s mouth and wants to taste a cake she ate because Yk he wanted to lick that sugar off her mouth. He’s unhinged. 😂 He’s going home drunk, collapsing on his bed, trying to subtly bring up the emptiness of the rake lifestyle to the other men in the ton. His dream tells you everything. It reveals how fake his lifestyle is because what’s his wildest fantasy? It’s Meeting a pretty girl in a dark garden while she’s wearing a classy princess gown with medieval lamps everywhere and him expressing his love in a flowery way. If he was an f boy his wildest fantasy that would make him wake up in cold sweats would be some x rated threesome. Which makes that scene with the courtesans even funnier because he’s not even looking at them after paying. He’s ruminating on Penelope and suffering. The lover boy allegations persist.
Nahhh but Penelope just wanting to be kissed; the whole ton has been telling her she’ll never be married, mother included, and now she’s even more ridiculed for even asking someone else to help her get married. She genuinely believes she’ll never be loved or kissed by a man, and just wants to experience it. I almost cried during that scene 😢

Colin was internalizing that he did want to kiss her and when he did it was glorious. So yes… our boy fell hard and wanted more. When she said please he lost all resolve and went in for the kiss.
I think Colin already wanted to kiss Penelope just based on the way he kissed her. He is so tender with her and he goes back in for another kiss. And he was already jealous earlier in the episode. The only reason he hesitated is because he wanted to preserve her honor like he did with Marina. But the difference between her and Marina is that he can't resist her.
Bro I didn't find her asking for the kiss embarrassing at all. I mean, imagine someone in her position, constantly chastised for the way she looked and humiliated for no apparent reason, not to mention, by her own family members at that. She never asked anything for herself, even though she always knew what she wanted. And at that moment, she just took the first chance she had. Pen is a passionate lover in my opinion, and I'm pretty sure no one would've found it embarassing if she was a man asking for a kiss like that

I genuinely think that he really has no idea Pen loves him, and it is not his fault to be so naive about it! He can't "make himself notice signs" if he doesn't. It's clear that in his heart and mind pen has always been a really good friend (and he says this so many times) so it's obvious that it takes much time for him to notice her feelings... I was also surprised by them showing that he was been sleeping around. But i think its purely to emphazie his loneliness he feels and that he wants a deep connection with someone. He is a man in this time period, and it makes sense that on his travels he wouldve been with people. I also think it adds to his character a bit because he could have and has had many women but one comment about his eyes and a kiss from Penelope and he is WHIPPED. Also the notebook scene shows that he could have excellent writing about Penelope in the future
I felt so bad for Penelope's sister who didn't know anything about sex, because it happened so much back then. So, you had her get married and you never told her about how that actually works? Second I heard that, a literal record scratch went off in my head. It's just sad because it happened so much, and still happens today.

Like at least Anthony was loyal to Siena in S1 and then only acted whore-ish in S2 bc he wanted no feels or attachments. He’s unsure about his identity as a third son, yet everyone expects him to know about his feelings for pen and should just hurry up because he’s unknowingly hurting pen because she loves him. He’s dealing with stuff too…
There was a moment in the kiss you can tell he figures out his feelings for pen. He’s had a summer of stale and uncomfortable sex with courtesans and felt unsatisfied. With that comparison, I’m sure the suppressed love was bursting out of him to kiss someone he cares about and finds out he loves it and loves her.

@@taistired honestly, I love stories with subtle hints, subtext and context clues. I honestly don’t need the plot to hammer in the mental state of the characters. God forbid they tell it to me in a expository way.
I like the way they did it. I think they gave me enough information to interpret what they’re going for. I agree that I wouldn’t complain for more Polin in my Polin season Yk? A lot of the subplots could’ve been whittled down with a short exposition and a few lines. They did it for edwina with that throwaway line about her marrying overseas (I actually would’ve liked to see that lol)
I think the few dissociative looks Colin gave while with the courtesans, him sulking in his study, the candle going out, him literally buying the same piece of cake pen bought so he can reminisce on their intimacy and ~the kiss~ they show and don’t tell us about how much of a lover boy he is.
He’s literally fixating on pen’s mouth and wants to taste a cake she ate because Yk he wanted to lick that sugar off her mouth. He’s unhinged. 😂
He’s going home drunk, collapsing on his bed, trying to subtly bring up the emptiness of the rake lifestyle to the other men in the ton.
His dream tells you everything. It reveals how fake his lifestyle is because what’s his wildest fantasy? It’s Meeting a pretty girl in a dark garden while she’s wearing a classy princess gown with medieval lamps everywhere and him expressing his love in a flowery way.
If he was an f boy his wildest fantasy that would make him wake up in cold sweats would be some x rated threesome. Which makes that scene with the courtesans even funnier because he’s not even looking at them after paying. He’s ruminating on Penelope and suffering.
The lover boy allegations persist.

The only reason he hesitated is because he wanted to preserve her honor like he did with Marina. But the difference between her and Marina is that he can't resist her.

Bro I didn't find her asking for the kiss embarrassing at all. I mean, imagine someone in her position, constantly chastised for the way she looked and humiliated for no apparent reason, not to mention, by her own family members at that. She never asked anything for herself, even though she always knew what she wanted. And at that moment, she just took the first chance she had. Pen is a passionate lover in my opinion, and I'm pretty sure no one would've found it embarassing if she was a man asking for a kiss like that
This is just my opinion so please don't be mean in the comments.... but i truly think Colin doesn't deserve all the hate he is getting! I genuinely think that he really has no idea Pen loves him, and it is not his fault to be so naive about it! He can't "make himself notice signs" if he doesn't. It's clear that in his heart and mind pen has always been a really good friend (and he says this so many times) so it's obvious that it takes much time for him to notice her feelings... And for what concerns him having so much attention... it is the ladies that keep following him and speaking with him.. he just answers back and yes he may enjoy the attention but why shouldn't he?

I was also surprised by them showing that he was been sleeping around. But i think its purely to emphazie his loneliness he feels and that he wants a deep connection with someone. He is a man in this time period, and it makes sense that on his travels he wouldve been with people. I also think it adds to his character a bit because he could have and has had many women but one comment about his eyes and a kiss from Penelope and he is WHIPPED. Also the notebook scene shows that he could have excellent writing about Penelope in the future
I felt so bad for Penelope's sister who didn't know anything about sex, because it happened so much back then. So, you had her get married and you never told her about how that actually works? Second I heard that, a literal record scratch went off in my head. It's just sad because it happened so much, and still happens today.
What's wild actually is Prudence knew and she got married AFTER Phillipa who was married for like 2 years by this point lol which means Phillipa like just didn't listen to Portia at all during the sex talk
